to think I should just be given the Red Book rather than being made to have the HV come round too?

I have just had a letter from HV saying they have booked an appointment to come round on Friday. I have rang to cancel it because with pfb (2) they gave incorrect information about bf and the use of dummies (and when had been doing perfectly well on our own with feeding).

The woman I have just spoken to is basically saying I can't have the Red Book unless I see the HV. I ended up telling her the reasons above (plus some other reasons from last time) as to why I don't want to see the HV and that I am a responsible Parent and will book for immunisations etc as I know when they are due.

She was not having any of it and said she would have to call me back after speaking to her Manager ! I told her I appreciate it's a service they offer but I just want the book. Surely she cannot with-hold the book from me?

On threads about child protection everyone says all families being checked on is a good thing and if one child was saved then it's all worth it. Apart from when we don't want it for ourselves.
child protection doesn't apply to just certain types of families from certain social classes.

I just think we need to work with people trying to protect children not against them. my hv was as useful as a choc teapot but I only had to see her a few times so just smiled and nodded etc.

Wow your brave! I didn't know we could just tell them not to come. I'm due again at Christmas.. Very tempting but I think I'll just try and be good and get it over with :)

Last one told me not to give a dummy and not to try a bottle of expressed milk for ages in case DD got confused.

I gave a dummy for a few months because I was red bloody raw otherwise - HV seemed to think I should just just lie around with DD permanently like one of those sows you see at the farm Grin Apparently every 2 hours wasn't good enough if she wanted more often I should just do it.

We gave her a bottle of expressed milk now and then from 3 weeks. Didn't notice any confusion either.

Hey ho. I guess they need to advise whatever the current guidelines are but this woman seemed a bit rigid.

I think HV have been really primed to delve more deeply into homes and NB's etc.

Mine was very nice, told me to strip baby off to weigh her but asked rather sharply to see her back....

I know of a few people who have been put in touch with SS, over tiny body marks.

Its a good thing but instincts etc are also key.
