To think its rude to block people's drives?

We live on a street with a school on, and I accept the parking is ridiculous, but its getting worse.

Today someone completely blocked our drive, after school my OH had to go out, so asked the driver who was returning to not block the drive please. He did not shout or swear.

The parent then, in front of her 3 children, told him he was messing with the wrong fucking person!!

I said he should have taken her number plate and reported her to the school!

I can't believe he got abuse when she was in the wrong!

YANBU. Next time could you just happen to be out the front, washing your car with the hose, and "accidently" soak the bitch when she gets out of the car?

That'd learn her Wink

In all seriousness, I think it's actually an offence to block someone in their driveway (although it is not an offence to block someone out iyswim) - so you could legitimately threaten to call the Police.

Not sure about the school - is there anything that they could practically do to help to prevent this? Confused

TheWitTank · 02/12/2013 16:03

YANBU. She was downright rude and you should go up to the school, tell then what happened and ask them to mention parking in their next newsletter/note to parents.

LittleMissGerardPoppyButler · 02/12/2013 16:03

A letter has been sent out, it's been on newsletters, it makes no difference.

If she had just apologized that would have been it! No point reporting to school they wouldn't do anything anyway.

Report it to the police if it is causing an obstruction.
Granted, by the time the police get there, no doubt the car will have gone, but it is worth doing as hopefully they can send a PCSO along at school start / finish time to 'have a word with' the parents.
You do also need to let the school know and also ask them to request visits from the PCSO - might have more impact from them.

YANBU, it drives me nuts when I see people doing outside our school. So so rude and inconsiderate to the people living there.

LittleMissGerardPoppyButler · 02/12/2013 16:07

The PCSOs have been and it makes no difference :(

One parent parked on the white lines outside school, and when the police and head teacher went over they started kicking off and swearing, in front of all the kids Shock

Could you obtain a couple of cones to put out during the day? (I'm not sure if that is technically something you're "allowed" to do, but it's better than being blocked in.....)

TheWitTank · 02/12/2013 16:14

Can you block your own drive at school run times? Move your car or put out some cones or something?

fluffyraggies · 02/12/2013 16:16

Can PCSOs not issue tickets to vehicles parked illegally?

LetZygonsbeZygons · 02/12/2013 16:50

article 243 of the highway code.

not a week goes by without one of these parking driveway threads!

ive had it too, school at end of road, police wardens out, complaints from the street to the school. nothing. the feckers do what they like and hurl abuse at the same time.

hermioneweasley · 02/12/2013 17:00

When she's parked across your drive, you and a neighbour box her in by parking very close in front and back of her

Or let the air out of her tyres

Or write "I park like a selfish cunt" in lipstick on her windscreen

Yes, a lot of these temporarily inconvenience you, but she won't do it again.

hermioneweasley · 02/12/2013 17:02

My fav of these was the range rover driver who parked on the drive, blocking the OP's access to her own car in ther garage. An accommodating neighbour then parked across the drive so the errant range rover owner couldn't get out. Her husband eventually collected the car because she was too embarrassed.

Classic.

thebody · 02/12/2013 17:08

park across your drive at pik up time. you shouldn't have to but will stop her.

the school have no powers but pester the police to clamp or fine offenders.

cheeky bitch. maybe her car could be accidentally damaged!!

Justforlaughs · 02/12/2013 17:10

I remember that thread hermoine it was great! I would get some cones out and if that failed I would box them in. Completely. And leave it there all night!

LetZygonsbeZygons · 02/12/2013 17:12

thebody the only prob with that is that

1-if the wardens go down they'll give YOU a ticket and

2- if other cars see a car over a driveway they might think its okay and will do it either another day if you've forgotten or over someone elses drive.

plum100 · 02/12/2013 17:15

I arrived home at school run time to find someone parked on my drive!!! I blocked her in , picked up the dcs then went two doors up for a cup of tea for an hour!!! She sat in her car and waited and when i came out she pretended to be on her phone!

plum100 · 02/12/2013 17:16

It hasnt happened again!

ibbydibby · 02/12/2013 17:16

Our school used to publish registration numbers of errant parkers in newsletter....not sure whether did much good or not. Can PCSO come over again? Are tickets ever issued? A few weeks of traffic wardens and PCSOs issuing tickets made a bit of a difference.

Misspixietrix · 02/12/2013 17:18

some are so ignorant. I don't even drive but I know the residents have had their fill. We had PCSOs around a few months ago. Had the Newsletter sent out and apparently it is an offence to park/obstruct a Persons' driveway that also has a dropped kerb. We have to walk past another School on the School run and they park everywhere to the point we couldn't even cross on the corner a few weeks ago because someone had positioned their car right in between two others either side. Funnily enough PCSOs never visited that school. Would suggest putting your wheelie bin there OP but I don't know if that's classed as obstructing a public highway and will probably just get moved anyway.

thebody · 02/12/2013 17:18

they can't give you a ticket for parking outside your own drive way! we live near a beauty spot and often park across our drive way at the weekend to stop this very same annoyance.

jerryfudd · 02/12/2013 17:22

I can't believe people are cheeky enough to actually park on a strangers drive! Some people have no shame. I would be beyond angry if some cheeky fecker did it to me.

PixieBumbles · 02/12/2013 17:24

People actually park on other people's drives?! Shock

I can't understand anyone being so cheeky!

This happens at my dds school. We go by tram. The school is so oversubscribed that I can believe anyone lives so far away that it is necessary to drive!

pianodoodle · 02/12/2013 17:29

plum

I'd have walked straight past her into the house and forced her to come to the door to ask to be let out Grin
