To think its rude to block people's drives?

We live on a street with a school on, and I accept the parking is ridiculous, but its getting worse.

Today someone completely blocked our drive, after school my OH had to go out, so asked the driver who was returning to not block the drive please. He did not shout or swear.

The parent then, in front of her 3 children, told him he was messing with the wrong fucking person!!

I said he should have taken her number plate and reported her to the school!

I can't believe he got abuse when she was in the wrong!

Thebody but how do they know its YOUR car? do you put a paper on the windscreen saying 'car belongs to this house ' or something?

genuine question!

thebody · 02/12/2013 17:33

what always amuses me are the parents dropping kids off in large cars dressed to go to the gym!!

if they fucking walked to school they wouldn't need the expensive gym fees and the kids would be healthier and ready to learn.

Tilly333 · 02/12/2013 17:34

I was so angry about a car that parked across my drive and blocked me in one day, I proceeded to follow them home and park across their drive so they couldn't get out.
Luckily they lived near some shops - so off I went and did a top up shop just to spite them -and make me feel a bit better-
They confronted me when I returned and I produced the photograph I'd taken earlier of their car doing exactly the same to me!
I didn't say a word but promptly got back in my car and drove home chuckling all the way!
Revenge is so sweet

Tilly, i hope the smug twat felt like a right arsehole. Grin

thebody · 02/12/2013 17:49

LetZ the local beat officer knows the car. in a good way. Grin

it's not an offence to block your own drive way so any ticket would be rescinded anyway.

thebody · 02/12/2013 17:50

to park actually on someone else's driveway is unbelievable. I would call the police in that as it could be a burglary.

CiderBomb · 02/12/2013 17:56

I live near a convenience store. Directly opposite is a row of houses with driveways. Not a day goes by without some arrogant tosspot parking across their drives, either blocking the residents in or preventing them getting onto their property.

When residents have approached these people they've been subjected to abuse and even threats. The driver's seem to think that because they are "in and out" of the shop it's perfectly acceptable to park there. Why they can't just park up the road and walk to the shop I don't know. But I assume it's just laziness combined with a sense of entitlement.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 02/12/2013 18:13

Ha ha Tilly that is amazing, I love it! I would do that myself but knowing my luck I'd end up following someone to the end of the country!

This does my head in too as we have a private gated driveway that we share with the 3 flats next to us. (Makes my house sound a lot more posh than it is!)
Though not near a school, there is a tiny corner shop over the road (which apparently seems to be the busiest corner shop in existence even though there are loads of other shops and supermarkets in the village)
and parking all the way up both sides of the street yet even when there is loads of spaces, people still feel the need to park directly across the lowered kerb part of or driveway in front out our gates, so potentially blocking 4 different people's access in or out!

Drives me up the wall but not really sure what can be done about it - DH always wants to yell at people for doing it but then it just seems like people kick off and will scratch your car or do some other sort of damage!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/12/2013 18:23

Unfortunately there is not much you can do LittleMiss apart from again involving the PCSOs to see if they are prepared to patrol the area for a set period of time. Its a civil matter so the police are not really interested. School certainly would not be bothered as it is not happening on their property, it was no point telling them.

People do get irate over parking problems generally and it is not always a wise course of action to take the law into your own hands.

YANBU, it is rude and it's illegal. I live just next to a school and I honestly think that some parents have an I'm the only person in the world to have children complex. That woman sounds like she has the complex.

comingintomyown · 02/12/2013 18:34

If I found someone parked on my drive I would go ballistic what is it with people ffs

izzybiz · 02/12/2013 18:42

YANBU and it is rude and inconsiderate.
On the other hand, people that have 'driveways' but don't pay for the curb to be dropped annoy me just as much!
There's an old dear opposite my Dm's house, she moans if you park outside her house, claiming you're blocking her 'drive'.
The curb hasn't been dropped, she just has two rows of slabs on her front grass Hmm

redshifter · 02/12/2013 18:46

As a PP saId, it is not illegal to block a dropped kerb driveway so someone can't get in, but it is illegal to block one so someone can't get out.
Sounds crazy, but I believe this is the case. Most decent people just wouldn't do it though.

However, this means that you wouldn't be given a ticket for blocking your own driveway because you wouldn't be blocking anyone in. IYSWIM.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 02/12/2013 18:53

Red its illegal as its causing an obstruction, if an emergency vehicle needs to get into drive or something, or if there are a million signs on driveway gate saying 'emergency disabled access required at ALL times'. (yes, mine).
