To think Katie Hopkins has gone too far this time to tweet about low life expectancy in Scotland.

She's a hired gun, I get that she's paid to be provocative but tweeting about a low life expectancy in Scotland in derogatory terms yesterday of all days is a comment too far. There's a twitter storm about her comments and a petition asking tv channels to not use her services again. I hope they take notice.

I bet they don't! Mind you, I'd be quite tempted to chat to find out if she is really is as awful as she sounds.

I also wonder whether any of her children are invited to play with friends.[Sad] I don't think I'd be able to cope with her judgeyness when she collected them.

JakeBullet · 04/12/2013 07:16

She is a vile excuse for a human being to tweet such an offensive comment at a time when there were families grieving or panicked wondering if loved ones were involved. And to then DEFEND her comments beggars belief.......

I have only ever seen her on TV once and that was enough, pathetic silly woman.

Tardigrade · 04/12/2013 07:44

As for her excuse that she was 'shocked' at the low life expectancy and told her husband... I'm sure he was thrilled to be informed that:

"Whereas life expectancy (LE) is an estimate of how many years a person might be expected to live, healthy life expectancy (HLE) is an estimate of how many years they might live in a ‘healthy’ state.HLE is a key summary measure of a population's health.
The most recent annual estimates for Scotland are for boys born in 2010 to live 76.3 years on average, 59.5 of these in a ‘healthy’ state. Girls born in 2010 would be expected to live 80.7 years on average, 61.9 of these years being ‘healthy’.
Underlying trends in both LE and HLE at birth show a general improvement in Scotland over recent years."

That's what it actually says. So, her actual quote is complete nonsense, and anyone with an analytical mind would realise that the figures would have to be compared to other countries' if you want to comment on how awful you found it. She's trying to dig herself out a hole & failing. Grin

OrlandoWoolf · 04/12/2013 08:03

Something tells me she did not read the actual report. From the original source. If it concerns her, maybe she should think about why it's lower rather than tweeting her "joke".

ssd · 04/12/2013 08:22

water off a ducks back, I couldnt care less what someone like her thinks.

JakeBullet · 04/12/2013 19:45

Metro reporting that Katie Hopkins has been dropped by ITV. Will see if I can find a link.

ExcuseTypos · 04/12/2013 19:48

Well I ope that's true, Jake. I knew she'd cross the line sooner rather than later.

I expect we'll next see her on I'm a celeb or Big Brother.

fancyanotherfez · 04/12/2013 21:14

But didn't This Morning say they were not going to have her on again after doing some poll where 80% of their viewers said they didn't want her on again, then they had her on the next week? On the rare occasion that I have watched her on This Morning, she just says 'of course I lost the debate- all The people watching this show are unemployed or housewives' or something similarly contemptuous. Shows what ITV think of the people who watch their programmes!

BlueSkySunnyDay · 05/12/2013 00:21

I suspect she is a very unhappy woman who needs the attention to validate her existence - strange she makes a living my mocking and belittling other people whilst looking down from a great height.

Possibly getting out of the public spotlight and getting some therapy would be a good idea before she damages her children irreversibly (which for all Katie's mocking Peaches Geldof didnt do by tipping her child out of the buggy...I certainly cant judge on that one 1. cut DC1s chin with a coat zip because I was chatting to a friend and not looking 2. A few bumped toddler heads on the car door frame - just for starters)

I don't like what she says, I don't think she should be given this airtime but I do defend her right to say what she thinks, freedom of speech in a democratic country and all that without fear of personal injury. I get a little worried when there are suggestions of censoring anyone in a free country. Any typical person will just nod, say yes dear patronisingly, and pass her by as a sad little example of ridiculousness.

Revengeofkarma · 05/12/2013 06:32

Again THIS ISNT A FREE SPEECH ISSUE. (Sorry, I get really annoyed on this point as it usually shows that people have no idea what free speech actually is, and it is an important right to be protected.) In no way is anyone trying to stop her from speaking. Most importantly, the government isn't trying to stop her. If they were, then her free speech would be interfered with.

Campaigning to have her spiteful comments with lack of anything constructive to say not be paid for with our advertising dollars isn't the same thing at all. She can keep saying the same things on Twitter, write a book for no one to buy, blog, or just stand on the high street and shout like the loon she is.

I have lots of views on things and express them in all kinds of media. The fact I'm not paid to go on tv and say them does not mean I'm having my free speech interfered with, and neither would Katie Hopkins. She's effectively getting fired. And so she should.

Ubik1 · 05/12/2013 09:07

YY Karma

It's not censorship. She is not being sent to prison or 'disappeared' for criticising the government like many brave people across the world who stand up for freedom.

Telling KH to STFU...is like telling the drunk on the bus not to swear in front of your children. Simple as that.

Crowler · 05/12/2013 09:14

The only place I ever heard about her is on MN. I don't care.

OrlandoWoolf · 05/12/2013 09:25

She's not that old. But I don't think she can keep up her "career" for that long.

What happens to people like her when their usefulness runs out?

Revengeofkarma · 05/12/2013 09:48

Supposedly the next Celeb BB. Wouldn't surprise me. Her options will be thin, and she will be viewed as provocative.

After that, bankruptcy and quite possibly divorce. He'd get custody as lord knows she's on record with enough issues as to why she's a bad mother.

Within five years, the mea maximum culpa I've changed, no really I have "tour" lasting roughly two days. When people still aren't interested, we will never hear of her again.

Revengeofkarma · 05/12/2013 11:02

I was wrong. This morning she was on Aussie tv via link, "debating" the topic if whether modern mums are lazy. I think we know which side she was on, but I can't bear to watch the video.

Given her lazy approach to facts or effective criticism, it's all a bit ridiculous, don't you think?

Ubik1 · 05/12/2013 11:17

I think they go on Loose Women
