Sorry if this is long winded but just that really. I know its AIBU and it should be in general health, but more traffic so please go easy on me.Grin

I have been suffering for months with back ache, crippling pain on the right hand side of my abdomen and pelvic pain so sharp it takes my breath away always about two weeks before my period. Have been getting heavier and heavier periods (really large clots etc sorry tmi) and bloating.

Had an internal yesterday in which the lovely GP I saw seems to be pretty certain its Endrometreosis (sp?) and is arranging a scan for me to confirm.

GP commented on how bloated I was and I said I always got bloating just before my period. I woke up today and without exaggeration I look six months pregnant. (I'm definitley not) and I am in so much pain with my pelvis it has physically knocked me off my feet all day sick.

Rang GP who tried to arrange for an emergency scan at gynae this afternoon and couldn't Sad but said they would see me if the problems persisted and I went to A&E. I feel incredibly stupid going with 'period pains' I always think of A&E as being somewhere you go with fallen off limbs and real life and death stuff. Confused

I would feel like I'm wasting someones time but my DM is sat with me in tears insisting I go, my aunt died of Ovarian Cancer this year and she is incredibly worried (and is therefore worrying me)

Would you go?

tia

Wow just reading some of the posts on the thread (which I should have done before I updated)

HairyBeaver that sounds terrifying! Hope you and baby are ok and your on the mend.

I must admit even I was doubting if I was actuall pg when I did the test as I'm so swollen, but doc had a good feel of my abdomen in the hospital and I took my stick as proof Smile and i'm not but I sure look like it.

I just hope I get the scan done quickly so we can get to the bottom of what it is, someone up thread said it's something that they just have to get on with but I'm not sure if I can go through this every month for any longer Confused

For some people the Mirena coil or mini pill can help with the symptoms. I have had a lot less pain since I went on Cerazette. I used to get mid cycle pain and pain before and during my periods. I used to have to take prescription painkillers and OTC ones together just to get through the day. I really kicked myself when I went on Cerazette and the problem was virtually solved overnight. Do follow this up as there may be treatment out there that can make a real difference. Don't make my mistake and put up with ever increasing pain for years before doing something about it.

I'm so pleased you've been examined and been given good advice and, most importantly, what to do if things get worse.

A scan will not diagnose endometriosis but can diagnose/rule out some other things that might be causing your symptoms.

A laparoscopy (keyhole surgery to look inside the abdominal cavity with little camera-tube) is to confirm diagnosis of endometriosis - that is the only way to actually see the endometriosis. If this is what it is, then there are various treatments. Endometriosis is not just bad period pain.

I hope you soon have a firm diagnosis of what is causing your pain and a treatment plan.

I'd just like to reiterate what I and others have already said on the thread - SEVERE AND WORSENING ABDOMINAL PAIN IS AN EMERGENCY UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE

Really sounds like you needs an urgent gynae appt. Scans are fine foe ruling out a large ovarian cyst but endo is often missed on scans

NurseRoscoe · 28/11/2013 19:39

Yes, please go to A&E. I have been before with a headache, a severe headache but still a headache. It was then that I was diagnosed with my chiari malformation, part of my brain herniating into my spinal cord.

If your gut instinct is telling you to go then go.

Thankyou so much BoreOfWhabylon I'm hoping we get to the bottom of it soon and I don't have to wait much longer for a scan Sad[. The painkillers have eased the pain more so than Ibropfren anyway so that's something!

Will mention that when I see my gp Chaz that's really helpful cheers.

Fingers crossed I have a better night but if it gets worse I will go back.
Thanks again all

I don't want to frighten you too much, but enough to make sure you get action soon. My very good friend had similar troubles and put off the scans and further tests and by the time she did have them, it turned out she had Stage 4 colon cancer. Please don't let this go on any longer.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/11/2013 19:43

Hope you have a restful night Flowers

FlankShaftMcWap · 28/11/2013 19:47

Ah bless you OP it's bloody miserable isn't it Sad
Having similar issues myself so I really sympathise! Rest up and look after yourself. Hope things get resolved for you soon.

Hey dipity just wondering how you're getting on now? Hope the pain is under control and you are further forward towards getting answers.
