Anyone who is now if their 40s will remember the amazing Swiss Ctr in Leicester Square which shut its door back in 2008, I think (Westminster Council apparently didn't think it offered the public enough...more like the land it was sitting on was worth an epic fortune).
It had the best food court down in the basement, with all manner of Swiss foodie stuff, cooked individually for you from several little stalls, and the quality was amazing: Rosti, Movenpick ice-cream,bratwurst....mmm.
I spent bloody hours in the place, sharing a plate of food with mates (we were all students back then) and it was the best meeting point too ("Meet you outside the swiss centre at 8"
Iconic.
G'won, indulge me peeps!

yes the Swiss centre was good, esp the food.

The food hall was nice but I wasn't sure what the rest of it was for.

I'd join a campaign. I moved to London in 1987 and loved that place - back then it was about the only non-nightclub place still open after the pubs shut so we'd nip into the cafe on the ground floor and have hot chocolate with whipped cream and swiss choc shavings before getting the last tube home, feeling very cosmopolitan to be up in London so late... I loved that food hall in the basement. Oh, the smell! And we saw so many foreign language films there... :( that it's all gone.

DD dragged me into M&M World the other week, it was hell on wheels.

It was fab. There used to be another one out in Victoria too back in the 90s. They had movenpick icecream too yum. Personally I think we should bring back the 90s full stop. Or invent a time machine.

I really did not know the Swiss Centre had closed... oh such fond memories of Sunday afternoon in London having a meal. We have visited Switzerland for the last 30 years. Such an amazing country. We so enjoy the food and remember being able to get certain things we enjoyed at the Swiss centre. I have a question. Does anyone know where Swiss food can be bought in this country? Every year I forget to bring back some of the things we enjoy on a daily basis. (of course we never forget the chocolate!) Just as an example, the Swiss DAR.VIDA Whole Meal crackers are wonderful with soups or cheese etc... and so convenient for lunch boxes and my children remember them from being young and loved them! Would be good to know if anyone knows if we can buy Swiss products in this country. Leicester Square days so missed!
