AIBU to think yodel drivers don't actually know how to knock on doors?

They came yesterday while I was in but upstairs so possibly I didn't hear them but I did hear the letterbox rattle then a van driving away

Says on the card they will try again today -went into the kitchen to make a coffee, same thing has just happened!

Apparently if they have another failed delivery I will have to collect it from them -its a bike ffs! How am I supposed to collect an adult size bike? Grrr

My yodel driver doesn't take big heavy items out of the van until he's ascertained that I am at home (don't blame him tbh Grin ) so maybe that happened? I think some of them come to the door with the card in hand and just put it straight through, without knocking first. Although that seems bizarre to me - why show up at your house with the item in the van if you aren't even going to try to deliver it? Hmm

I know yodel are widely considered to be shit, and they are Grin but my current chap is fab! He knows to avoid the school run and we have a quick chat on the doorstep.

The guy before him, otoh, well, have you ever felt that someone actually HATES you? Grin He seemed to resent bringing me parcels. [baffled]

cranberryorange · 28/11/2013 12:12

UPS are just as bad.

Apparently I requested a hold for a future delivery date for the parcel that was supposed to be delivered yesterday.

Considering I sat in all day waiting for it to arrive and at no point contacted them, it beats me how they came to that conclusionConfused

I'm hoping they come back today but who knows, maybe i've subconsciously contacted them again and told them to stay away because I love sitting around waiting.........

Binkyridesagain · 28/11/2013 12:15

My yodel driver rang the door bell, the door bell which is covered all over in insulation tape to stop people from using it as its broken. I only knew he was there because I had seen him drive past the house 3 times at high speed trying to find my house which is clearly numbered.

YABU. I have never had a problem with yodel. Always get parcels the day I am meant to. Left somewhere sensible if I am out. Is sometimes deliwverd after hours out of the back of a car by random woman/teenagers/children though.

tweetytwat · 28/11/2013 12:30

I am very luckyGrin Both my local Hermes and Yodel couriers are absolutely fine.
Shitty Link is another story though.

ZombieMonkeyButler · 28/11/2013 12:43

I live 3 streets away from the Yodel depot but would they let me collect my parcel? Would they chuff!

chipshop · 28/11/2013 16:55

I've had about six Yodel deliveries in the past week, all were fine. They really hammer on the door and as soon as you sign they are away like the clappers, must really be under the cosh!

KungFuBustle · 28/11/2013 16:59

Old house yodel were shit.

Our driver here is lovely though, knocks loud and waits long enough for DH to answer, dh has a physical disability and is not quick. He never seems to mind although like another poster he's off sharpish once he's greeted us, delivered and got his signature.

MiracleOntheM4 · 28/11/2013 17:02

We had a parcel left on our doorstep by Yodel the other day. Definitely no knock or doorbell and I was in all day. He left a card on top of the parcel telling me that the parcel was on the doorstep Confused And this is a London street we are taking about not a safe village community!

Dillydollydaydream · 28/11/2013 17:07

We only have one car and dh usually has it for work. More often than not delivery drivers dont even knock If there's no car on the drive. I know they're busy this time of year but still!

Andcake · 28/11/2013 17:11

I had a few bad experiences of never delivering and have actually stopped using companies (AMAZON) that use them unless its something to the office when I'm at work

coffeeinbed · 28/11/2013 17:13

I had the same with Parcelforce this week.

I think they all undergo the same training.

My Yodel deliverers knock at the door like they're going to break it down! Shock

It takes the heart out of me every time because I've got an open plan lounge.

I always assumed they were all told to knock like that.

randomAXEofkindness · 28/11/2013 17:32

YABU op, not least of all because the Yodel delivery driver would gain nothing by deliberately missing you except a pain in the derriere from doubling up on his workload, so it makes sense that he probably genuinely didn't think you were in.

My dh works for Yodel, the delivery drivers are either self employed directly by Yodel, and get paid for each successfully delivered parcel (so in your case would have gotten sweet fa for their time and fuel), or self employed and engaged by a Service Provider, who pays them a day rate (usually a mighty £75 per 12-15 hr day) regardless of the amount of parcels they deliver (so in your case will have just given themselves an extra stop tomorrow for no extra pay). In the rare instance that he was actually employed and paid per hr, there might be an argument for him making more work for himself on purpose to clock the hours up - in February. But it's not February, it's Christmas Hmm

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/11/2013 17:32

I appear to have two posties, one gently shoves letters through and rings the bell if there is a parcel, the other who comes later and only seems to be for parcels rings bell the HAMMERS the doorknocker as if he was the police on a drugs raid. He is very unsmiley too.

RedHelenB · 28/11/2013 17:34

Am beginning to think I live in a parallel universe to some MNetters - if i'm not in they leave with a neighbour & write that on the card.

randomAXEofkindness · 28/11/2013 17:39

They would do RedHelen - because then they get rid/paid for it. That makes sense.

SarahPercyAndBill · 28/11/2013 17:45

Ah well that explains why my parcel was "successfully delivered" two miles away at random postcode/street. Current yodel lady is nice and never in a hurry. Probably bcs I've always been in and even sign for neighbours.

NoComet · 28/11/2013 17:53

We had a post card and flee City Link lad who drove me mad.

Never seen anything labelled Yodel, but Amazon stuff gets left in the porch, regardless of value.

RedToothBrush · 28/11/2013 17:58

Ooo timely thread.

We had a delivery from Yodel yesterday. We were out. They left a note saying our package was in the back garden.

This in itself is unusual because our neighbours are normally around and are really good and take in deliveries for us.

But not only was it left outside, out in the open, but you can not actually get into our garden as the gate is padlocked and we have a six foot high fence!!!!!!!!

Unless he scaled the fence, they must have just chucked it over. Package included fragile christmas decorations (which thankfully survived the efforts of the driver).

Yodel definitely = Shite

FWIW randomAXEofkindness I do NOT call, throwing a parcel over a six foot high fence 'a successful delivery'. It leaves the driver open to the parcel being claimed as undelivered or damaged and damages the reputation of the company and ultimately no matter cheap they are, will mean they are a nightmare for any company who uses them. I have a job which means I deal with multiple numbers of couriers for us and couriers sent by our customers to collect. Guess what happens to the shit couriers? They loose the business as its not worth the time and money it takes to clean up after the bad ones. So I guess our local Yodel driver is probably exploited but also thick and putting his livelihood at risk.

hench · 28/11/2013 18:06

we had the package lobbed over the back gate last time, no message through the door either and the online tracking thing said pending delivery (or something similar for about a week afterwards). Quite lucky it survived the rain and we found it at all really.

paperdress · 28/11/2013 18:12

A yodel driver swore at me when i was 7 m pg for not getting to the door quickly enough just before he thrust a parcel of shattered long life lightbulbs in my hands. The parcel was audibly tinkling and crunching with broken glass.
I love the local hermes lady.
I dont envy their job, though
But no-one is as dire as parcelforce
