To think bless Holly Willoughby for her tears

Have just been watching This Morning and Holly having tears on the matter of that scumbag Ian Watkins. She was visibly upset when it was spoken about how he groomed the mothers of these young babies who he went on to abuse.
It seems that as a mother herself she could not comprehend how the mothers allowed it to go on. Hence her tears.

I see This Morning as magazine programme covering a variety of current affair and human interest stories.

KoalaFace · 28/11/2013 17:56

The real problem is that people will see one woman getting emotional on TV and then use that as a stick to beat other women with. Like it proves all women are overly emotional and unprofessional.

People don't say the same thing about men. Men are allowed to judged individually.

MollyHooper · 28/11/2013 18:05

It's hardly silly to say she wasn't unprofessional. Your opinion that she was isn't wrong or right, it's just your opinion.

It's all relative really.

I don't think she was, especially on a daytime television show such a TM which isn't exactly the most hard hitting source of news and discussion.

Their topics range daily from examining testicles to soap gossip.

She is a TV personality not a news reporter, she's paid to be herself not convincing the powers that be that they can be professional and not let their emotions run away with them.

It doubt she planned to cry, she seemed to be trying very hard to compose herself. It would have been worse had she ran off dramatically or refused to take part, she would have no doubt been accused of making it all about her.

bongobaby · 28/11/2013 18:09

He was unprofessional to take the roll of ambassador and should of flat out refuse to take the role, the sick bastard probably used his role to get closer to kids for him to abuse.
Sensitive subject that a presenter had an upset reaction to and some are calling her presenting style as unprofessional.

StealthPolarBear · 28/11/2013 18:11

He was unprofessional to rape children too but there are many other words id use first

Greenfircone · 28/11/2013 18:12

Is it unprofessional when PS starts pissing himself laughing on This Morning or is it just women who are judged for not controlling their emotions?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/11/2013 18:16

Watkins was made Ambassador for young people by the kidney foundation. Wholly unprofessional of him to take this role, knowing that he was abusing children

This is one of the oddest things I've read, given the context of what he's pleaded guilty to. Confused

bongobaby · 28/11/2013 18:22

Why is it odd, Watkins took the role whilst already abusing children.

bordellosboheme · 28/11/2013 18:22

Well I actually really hate news reporters who read the news without a flicker of emotion. Good on holly for being real. Quite astonished anyone could slate he for that, actually. Professionalism and emotion are not mutually exclusive.

tinmug · 28/11/2013 18:23

He was unprofessional to take the roll of ambassador and should of flat out refuse to take the role

Yeah you're right, it was thoroughly ignoble of him. I feel really indignant about this fellow now. How truly caddish of him.

You're unhinged, by the way.

tinmug · 28/11/2013 18:25

What should he have said? "Sorry, there's a conflict of interests"?

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 28/11/2013 18:28

I find the sentence 'men want to beat the hell out of men who do this and mothers want to get their heads round it and cry' incredibly trite and reductive. My dh and I discussed this case last night, we were both shocked, saddened and uncomprehending. There wasn't a gender divide in our reaction; I do not have a special claim on empathy because I am a mother. Not all men respond with a wish for brute violence. It's a vile and upsetting case, I'm not surprised Holly Willoughby was distressed - it's a human reaction that I am sure many viewers shared, male, female, parents and otherwise.

bongobaby · 28/11/2013 18:28

Tinmug unhinged, dfo

tracypenisbeaker · 28/11/2013 18:28

OP, 'unprofessional' is not the most apt word to describe the fucking monster's man's actions.

BlackbeltinBS · 28/11/2013 18:30

What should he have said? "Sorry, there's a conflict of interests"?

Despite the grim subject matter this made me laugh out loud, as has the whole Ian Watkins being "unprofessional" angle.

Penny6Pence · 28/11/2013 18:30

Yes, you're right, Bongo. Whatever else he did, it is his 'unprofessionalism' that is truly galling. Hmm

Heartbrokenmum73 · 28/11/2013 18:31

Oh, thank God, Blackbelt - I laughed at that too and felt terrible.

Damn you Tinmug Grin

Layl77 · 28/11/2013 18:40

Not at all, my dh has got upset at things like this before. Hiding natural emotions is not down playing feminism it's going backwards as humans. And women may have more of a tendency to cry. No point fighting for equality as a woman then masking femininity or instincts or whatever, it would be quite refreshing to see a man do the same.
Anyway the case is revolting and I have both the urge to kill the evil bastard and am upset.

mistermakersgloopyglue · 28/11/2013 19:15

Sorry, another one here who is laughing at the 'unprofessional' nature of Ian Watkins. Given that he was quite happily sexually abusing babies, do you honestly think he was concerned about the 'professionalism' of representing this charity? Do you think he gave one iota of a shit? What are you on?!

mistermakersgloopyglue · 28/11/2013 19:19

Should he had said 'I am honoured that you have asked me to be an ambassador, but I am afraid it would be unprofessional for me to take this role, as I am currently into doing the most unspeakable of things to very young kids'?

Hmm

Of course he didn't give a shit what he was doing. I was not the one to start talking about being unprofessional on here. I clearly haven't got your superior attitude and taking the piss out of people when it comes to sick bastards and a women showing empathy at child abuse.

OP posts:
IneedAsockamnesty · 28/11/2013 19:41

Interesting,

A thread about a woman showing emotion due to a grown man trying to rape babies, and supposedly intelligent people turn it into a thread about sexism and mothers/not mothers.

WhatAPallava · 28/11/2013 19:47

I loved lost prophets when they were popular (was mid teens) and I had the biggest crush on Ian Watkins! Have photos of meeting them and with his arm around me.....so disgusting :-(

tinmug · 28/11/2013 19:49

I was not the one to start talking about being unprofessional on here

You WERE the one to call a child abuser unprofessional for accepting a role as an ambassador for a charity, though.
