To think bless Holly Willoughby for her tears

Have just been watching This Morning and Holly having tears on the matter of that scumbag Ian Watkins. She was visibly upset when it was spoken about how he groomed the mothers of these young babies who he went on to abuse.
It seems that as a mother herself she could not comprehend how the mothers allowed it to go on. Hence her tears.

I would be equally annoyed with a man who blubbed - it's the lack of professionalism for me

Heartbrokenmum73 · 28/11/2013 15:03

I don't think it's unprofessional. I think it shows they're human, and makes them easier to relate to.

It's just presenting 'This Morning'. Don't see why it matters that much.

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 28/11/2013 15:03

What the hell has being a mum got to with it? Are mums better than everyone else? More saintly? Suddenly more emotionally sensitive?
Patronising attitude is what that is. Is Phil being a man then for not being emotional? Or stoic? Or good at his job?

It's horrid. Status of parenthood totes irrelevant. She's being paid to transmit a horrid story to the masses so yes she should be professional and do that to best of ability not sit snivelling. Time and place and that was not it. Tender moment afterwards when her and Phil chat would've been better.

bongobaby · 28/11/2013 15:10

Watkins was made Ambassador for young people by the kidney foundation. Wholly unprofessional of him to take this role, knowing that he was abusing children. And a title that he has now been stripped of.
Holly showed empathy as both a women and a mother.
I don't think it should be a slight on the position she has as a presenter.

OP posts:
Mabelene · 28/11/2013 15:20

I think the idea that Watkins cared about being unprofessional is quite strange - and not really the point of this discussion

cranberryorange · 28/11/2013 15:20

Maybe they should get someone like Kay Burley to present TM.

She's very professional, especially when she races around villages ramming her microphone into grieving peoples faces so that she can get an exclusive scoop. Fantastic journalism without any pesky emotions getting in the wayHmm

I bet the ratings on TM would drop through the floor with someone like that.

I dont think Hollys ever claimed to be a cutting edge, hard hitting Journalist, she's a TV presenter and a very good one who was faced with dealing with a story that is totally hideous to all of us and of course was potentially close to home for her.

Theres nothing unprofessional about emotions on TM, it would be totally unprofessional on the news at 10 which she doesnt present!

Mabelene · 28/11/2013 15:25

I don't think we need to go to extremes - Kay Burley or Jeremy Paxman to Holly Willoughby Hmm This Morning was very successful with Judy Finnegan and Fern Britton - both of whom were able to handle very sensitive subjects with tact, empathy and professionalism, HW does not and she should realise that herself, and not embarrass herself further. You'd think she'd have a friend who could point that out to her I could almost feel a little sorry for her

msmoss · 28/11/2013 15:30

I thought the Jeremy Paxman suggestion was tongue in cheek.

mistermakersgloopyglue · 28/11/2013 15:36

So holly willoughby got visibly upset at this horrific story (and one that she does have a personal connection to) - so fucking what?

qazxc · 28/11/2013 15:48

TBH I was more shocked at the fact that they were saying that he had "groomed" these young vulnerable women! Shock
Sorry I have no sympathy for them, they knew exactly what he was up to, they abused their own children and sent him the pics, they willingly provided their children for rape, cristal meth,etc... I think to try and even partly excuse their behavior is wrong, I hope they get the maximum tarif and are never allowed to go anywhere near a child again.
This bloke wasn't some sort of charlie manson figure that controlled every aspect of their lives and brainwashed them, he was someone that they talked to online, they could and should have ceased contact and reported when he started going down his "summer of child porn" route.

polgar · 28/11/2013 16:01

I agree, it is good to see a celebrity expressing upset at this, because as a famous person, what she thinks is more important than what the rest of the world thinks.

KoalaFace · 28/11/2013 16:20

I can't believe what I'm reading! Holly Willoughby got the job being who she is. She's been doing it for years that way. Personally I preferred Judy's and Fern's style as they could switch between fluff and serious without a problem.

But Holly is doing what she has always done. She seems pretty popular. Lots of people like that she is emotional. If it's the wrong tone for the show the creators should have a word or replace her. Why would she change when she's being herself and her bosses are happy with her?

Heartbrokenmum73 · 28/11/2013 16:22

Ffs, she hasn't embarrassed herself - that's just over the top.

hermioneweasley · 28/11/2013 16:28

Again, I agree with Mabelene.

StealthPolarBear · 28/11/2013 16:33

Well as a mother id quite like to beat the crap out of him. Iccouldn't but if I thought I woukd get the chance id train up

bongobaby · 28/11/2013 16:46

Holly didn't embarrass herself. Just showed natural human emotion when talking about vile perverts who abuse babies

Marianne Moore

Mabelene · 28/11/2013 16:56

the creators should have a word or replace her

Of course they should, or actually, shouldn't have given her the job in the first place

horcruxmanzini · 28/11/2013 17:04

FWIW Watkins was involved with organ donation campaigning because his own mother suffered from renal disease and had a transplant herself. I don't think his motives in raising awareness for an organisation that helped his mum had any sort of ulterior angle - it's sad that the charity is getting dragged into this whole abhorrent mess.

KoalaFace · 28/11/2013 17:10

That's it though isn't mabelene? Holly Willoughby is responsible for herself, of course, but the creators are responsible for the tone of the show.

Laying blame at her feet for how women are viewed to be unprofessional and emotional is just silly. And just another example of women turning on each other instead of the real problem.

tinmug · 28/11/2013 17:19

Watkins was made Ambassador for young people by the kidney foundation. Wholly unprofessional of him to take this role, knowing that he was abusing children

"Unprofessional"? Are you drunk?

StealthPolarBear · 28/11/2013 17:26

Does seem that way. If youre looking for unprofessional behaviour on his part, hisninvolvement in the charity is quite far down the list really.

Mabelene · 28/11/2013 17:28

Yes Koala hence my point that she, or someone close to her, should realise she is not capable of this sort of presenting job, and either keep her away from more sensitive subjects if she can't be professional, or find her a role more suitable for her

She is unprofessional, and saying that she is isn't silly, nor is it women turning on each other, what, in your opinion, is the real problem?

Layl77 · 28/11/2013 17:44

Oh FFS come off it with the professionalism, people have emotions, this story is bloody inhumane. Go watch something else with your stuff upper lip mentality. This morning is supposed to be lighthearted daytime viewing.

tinmug · 28/11/2013 17:50

This morning is supposed to be lighthearted daytime viewing

36 year old men raping babies doesn't really fit the bill then, does it...?
