toilet cleaner
brand 1,50£
unbranded 60p
same ingredients according to listing.

shocking, really.
why do I fall for the brands all the time?

CocacolaMum · 27/11/2013 18:37

60p?!!? 29p in Tesco Grin

Fairylea · 27/11/2013 18:39

Feels an aldi thread coming on.... :)

SirChenjin · 27/11/2013 18:39

You need a visit to Aldi to overcome your addiction to brands. Not only are they much cheaper but their stuff is just as good or better than branded stuff.

SirChenjin · 27/11/2013 18:40

As if by magic Fairylea... Grin

CocacolaMum · 27/11/2013 18:41

Aldi is my main supermarket now. My favourite thing about it is the lack of choice. This takes a good hour off my shopping time and makes it much easier to stick to lists.

Fairylea · 27/11/2013 18:42

:) haha great minds and all Sir....!

littlewhitebag · 27/11/2013 18:45

cocacolamum An hour OFF your shopping time? What do you do in the supermarket? I can drive to the supermarket, do a large shop and be home within an hour.

mousmous · 27/11/2013 18:47

wot! 29p?!? been shopping in a naice place.

always new waitrose is a ripp off
still like shopping there

OP posts:
CocacolaMum · 27/11/2013 18:48

I have been known to spend 2 hours in a supermarket (to be fair it is fucking massive one)

If I have a list I am far quicker.. if I go to Aldi probably 45mins for a big shop now. Hmm

SirChenjin · 27/11/2013 18:51

Oh yes - used to take me more than an hour to do a weekly shop for 5 at our mahoosive local supermarkets. I now do the same weekly shop at around 40/45 mins - it's brilliant not to have to choose between 38 varieties of rice or 72 types of deodorant. Love Aldi. Genuinely, really love it, and get really cross when I have to pay £1.30 for a loaf of bread that costs me about 75p in Aldi.

littlewhitebag · 27/11/2013 18:54

Ah well. I live in rural Scotland and have one tiny shit Morrisons. I have no need to linger. I wish we had Waitrose. I would settle for Sainsbury or even Asda.

Fairylea · 27/11/2013 18:57

The dc and I are currently tucking into aldi creamy tomato pasta bake with their 29p penne pasta. Absolutely delicious and amazingly cheap.

BrownSauceSandwich · 27/11/2013 19:00

Have you read about the aldi mince pies? www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/nov/21/aldi-lidl-mince-pies-taste-test

Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack your thread. You're totally right of course... Who gives a crap what brand of bleach they pour down their bog? (Pun intended)

CocacolaMum · 27/11/2013 19:00

I had to nip to Tesco for something yesterday and remembered we needed washing up liquid. I usually pay 59p for it in Aldi. equivalent looking stuff in Tesco was £1.50!! sod that.

BrownSauceSandwich · 27/11/2013 19:01

Ugh, link.

mousmous · 27/11/2013 19:08

toothpaste at lidl yesterday 59p
tastes as good as the usual brand we buy.

OP posts:
gobbynorthernbird · 27/11/2013 19:17

There are a few websites (google supermarket own brand comparison) which let you know what is worth buying from Aldi/Lidl and big four own brands and where you should stick to branded.
ALDI MINCE PIES ARE FUCKING DELICIOUS THOUGH, YOU SHOULD ALL BUY SOME

gobbynorthernbird · 27/11/2013 19:24

Oh lordy, my grammar has gone to shit. Mostly because of Aldi wine.

sashh · 27/11/2013 19:37

OP

Where do you think the own brands come from? Asda and Tesco don't have factories producing things, they buy them in with their labeling put on.

mousmous · 27/11/2013 19:40

I know where they come from, often from the same factory lines as the branded items.
still the price difference is astounding. wasn't expecting it to be that big.
didn't really look at it before...

OP posts:
Felix90 · 27/11/2013 19:42

I know this has turned in to an Aldi lovers thread and I'm just fuelling the fire, but I find so much of Aldi's rip-off brands so much better than the actual well known brand name stuff in other supermarkets. It's ace.

Most of it usually comes out of the same factory anyway doesn't it?

JuneauWhoIAm · 27/11/2013 19:46

gobby
What Aldi wine do you recommend?
I tried some of the Chateauneuf du pape and it blew my head off. It's 15% !! I was cross eyed after a glass.

What do you like?

mousmous · 27/11/2013 19:49

I don't shop at aldi, no one near me.
sometimes shop at lidl for the german lebkuchen and cold meats but not often as it's too far and we have 3 of the big ones in walking distance.

sashh · 28/11/2013 09:19

JuneauWhoIAm

If you stray in to Lidl their cava is good, and their champagne is OK but at £9.99 you can't really complain (note - was a few months ago and they also asked me for ID so a good day all round)

principalitygirl · 28/11/2013 11:43

colacolamum - I love aldi, lidl and smaller supermarkets too. Morrisons near me is a good size. in a Tesco /Asda megamarket I get too distracted by the non-food items and confused and irritated by too much choice of products and competing offers. the downside to Aldi, lidl and small Morrisons is lack of organic, free range and fair trade products. they have the odd bit but not a full range. online shop from one of the big places is probably the answer but I find that's not exactly quick and then there's the steep delivery charges..
