to remind wrapping paper shops that people do have birthdays in December

Ended up having to go to 4 shops before I could find (cheap) birthday wrapping paper.

Girl in Tesco's was very sweet and explained, very carefully, that its because Christmas is coming up soon and they need the space for Christmas paper Smile

I stocked up last week when I saw them getting Christmas Cards in.

In retail land all non Xmas events ceases existence in December Grin

wineoclocktimeyet · 27/11/2013 10:10

I admire your planning Honey - especially as I'm pretty sure I ranted about this exact subject last year and the year before

I see lots of plain cheap wrapping paper still at this time of year that could be used for birthdays. There's not much actual 'happy birthday' paper around though you're right.

Sirzy · 27/11/2013 10:13

i had enough trouble getting birthday cards and wrapping paper for DS november birthday this year because christmas had taken over!

MissMilbanke · 27/11/2013 10:14

Thanks so much for reminding me !

where did you get it from eventually (so I can avoid going into the 4 shops you went in) ?

Binkyridesagain · 27/11/2013 10:15

I bought my Dsis birthday card last month (her birthday is 24/12) first time I have been this organised but I'm fed up of visiting every card shop in town trying to find a birthday card in December. I've yet to buy wrapping paper but I'm hoping my local newsagent will have some hidden in a draw.

NoComet · 27/11/2013 10:16

Thank you for reminding me, DD2 asked me to put exactly that on my shopping list. Her DF's birthday is next week.

I expect there will be a dire selection of cards too!

IamInvisible · 27/11/2013 10:16

I wanted birthday cards for my two sons' birthdays in December. I went into a huge Clinton's cards last week, they had one nice one! I usually remember to get them earlier, but it is a joke. The world doesn't stop for Christmas.

I wrap their presents in foil paper because they are older.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 27/11/2013 10:16

always keep generic paper at home for such eventualities. Heck my house has been taken over by Christmas wrapping paper, I'm not surprised the shops have too Shock

wineoclocktimeyet · 27/11/2013 10:17

One of those pop up shops MissM but he did have to go 'out the back' to get it for me (and its so thin you have to double wrap otherwise you can see through it!)

Still beggars cant be......

OP, thanks for reminder. My DD1's birthday is in January, I can never get decent birthday cards because the Xmas stuff is on sale. Will try to get one later today. YANBU.

Birdsgottafly · 27/11/2013 10:24

My children's birthdays are October, November and December, I buy in the cards, wrapping, candles, for all three in October.

I like to look around the shops over Christmas but I everything I can, as soon as I can.

My DD likes Christmas to be a separate occasion, so doesn't even like getting chocs in Christmas themed boxes.

Birdsgottafly · 27/11/2013 10:27

I used to hate buying presents when they were little in October to have (sometimes snide) comments made by the shop assistants about "starting early", I think that people forget that children have Birthdays all year round.

SoonToBeSix · 27/11/2013 10:28

Yabu to waste so much time why not just use Christmas paper nobody would mind. I always bought lots of Xmas paper in the January sales and used it all year for birthdays because it was so much cheaper.

TinyTear · 27/11/2013 10:30

yes yes yes,,, my husband, mother, sister, grandmother, uncle, and daughter all have birthdays from end October to January...
I end up using brown paper and decorate it myself

SPsWouldCatFishNev · 27/11/2013 10:35

The toddlers birthday is on Friday. I'm going out to day for paper and his card. This is early for me Grin

JadziaSnax · 27/11/2013 10:38

There was a good choice of birthday wrap in Tesco this morning. The birthday card range is significantly reduced though, there wasn't much choice.

FriskyHenderson · 27/11/2013 10:38

Oh well, people with December and January birthdays love getting everything wrapped in Christmas paper Grin Hell, why not just buy them a joint Christmas-Birthday present?

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 27/11/2013 10:41

YANBU. Mine & DS2 birthdays are in December. We all go for a meal on family birthdays (siblings etc)

I do not want to eat an early Christmas dinner at all let alone on my birthday. Hmm

IfIDontKnowAndYouDontKnow · 27/11/2013 10:45

Frisky Grin Yes, the joint birthday Xmas presents.

I've even had someone give me a choice. As in 'we don't feel like its fair to allocate you 2 lots of our Christmas budget, would you rather a birthday present or one on Christmas day?' Hmm

Also have the Christmas cards with PS Happy birthday to you & DS2!

Wonder if they would appreciate the same question for their birthday?

Mattissy · 27/11/2013 11:03

I have several birthdays (DM, DSD, friend) with birthdays between 20-30 Dec, plus 2 wedding anniversaries. Never have a problem getting cards or wrapping paper, granted the choice isn't so vast, but they're still available, I'm surprised you have a problem.

Mattissy · 27/11/2013 11:06

I've been known to buy my DM a joint birthday and Christmas card, yes, the card was actually printed for both, it made me laugh but I got a clip round the head, lol

Quoteunquote · 27/11/2013 11:20

Always buy rolls of the cheap stuff in the summer to horde for the winter months, we have a lot of winter birthdays, so I learnt this years ago.

Adds insult to injury if you have open birthday presents wrapped in christmas paper.

SoonToBeSix · 27/11/2013 15:37

Frisky but I do have a December birthday and dd is January and I really could not care less the design of wrapping paper nor does dd.

cantspel · 27/11/2013 15:54

our local tesco still has birthday gift wrap in the stationary isle where it always is so does wilkinsons and even my local card factory shop so i am not sure why you are having such a problem finding any.
