..not to buy DS anything for Xmas

He's 14 weeks old, will be 18 weeks come Xmas day. We're skint. He has everything he needs. We live in a really small house and need to limit our tat quota. He'll be getting plenty from family no doubt.

So WIBU not to buy him anything 'for Christmas'.

Mine was 2 weeks old at 1st Christmas. We were careful to write her a lovely card with a very personal message. The rest were wrapped wipes, bath products (not used until several weeks later) and similar. The card is something we can hang onto when she- inevitably- asks about it in the future.

My oldest was about the same age on his first christmas, i didnt buy him anything, family and friends did but i was really skint.

My niece (10) has a favourite cuddly that was a little reindeer baby toy given to her on her first christmas, probably about 6 inches long max. It is still her most beloved squidged up lump of old fabric and stuffing that has lost any chance of being recognisably a reindeer possession.

Something little like that wouldn't cost very much (just make sure it's one of the ones that is baby safe), wouldn't take up much space and could be very well loved!

I'd buy a teddy with the year on it.

Black holes- to be fair, by the time we unwrapped DD's 'next size up' clothes they did fit her. She went through tiny baby to 9-12 month clothes in 6 months. That's on average, one size per month. They may have been the next size up when we bought them, but they weren't for long!

Long time ago but DD was only 4 weeks old on her first Christmas.

We had bought her a special stocking when I was pregnant which was her main present, with a couple of bits in it.

Christmas was the first time a lot of family saw her and we received lots of gifts, there was no point in buying extra for her.

To me it wouldn't be about dc being to young to understand, but more about being able to mark their first Xmas with even just a small thing. My dd was roughly same age and I bought her some toys that I knew she would use 'soon'. Plus it was lovely to have photos of her in her Santa sleep suit sitting with the presents.

I couldn't not buy her something.

DS got nothing his first Christmas (Tbf he was a week old) and even his next Christmas I don't recall buying anything. He had gifts off relatives and honestly, he sat and chewed on a box. Although he adored lying under the Christmas tree with the main lights off looking at the Christmas lights twinkling.

My daughter was 6 days old on Christmas and I did buy her presents, but at the time we could afford to

OP said she was skint and in that case I wouldn't worry myself with getting presents for a tiny baby.
