We always used lidl nappies but they've done something weird with them and in an emergency Asda was closest so we've got a packet of 'little angels'

Oh.my.god. I have never ever smelt anything so awful. They absolutely stink of chemicals, Its so strong. I actually heaved after changing the overnight nappy this AM. Stale wee and whatever this horrendous nappy smell is combined to make something so strong it nearly bought tears to my eyes!

would I be unreasonable to email them?

I can't be the only one to have noticed?

Oh we use them and I dont think they smell at all. And I have the nose of a bloodhound.

OohBridget · 24/11/2013 08:16

really? it is soo strong!

DaftSkunk · 24/11/2013 08:18

I've used them in the past and didn't know a strong smell. Maybe it's the batch? I would email them.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/11/2013 08:19

I too love Lidl nappies.
Is it poss there's something up with dd's wee???

Not tried asda ones recently.

lastnightopenedmyeyes · 24/11/2013 08:19

We always used these (DS ditched nappies in January so it's been a while) and never had any issues. Maybe a faulty batch?

Aquariusgirl86 · 24/11/2013 08:21

I usually use cloth but when ever I use sposies I always think they stink.....all brands.....Maybe it's just you get used to it and you were used to stinky lidl rather than stinky asda?!

OohBridget · 24/11/2013 08:22

therealamandaclarke I considered this but after sniff testing fresh ones its definitely the nappy. I'll try and find a serial number and email. Maybe it is a bad batch? I'm going to have to go out and buy more nappies its really that bad.

I am honestly not usually so dramatic I promise!

I dont use Pampers for this reason.

thebody · 24/11/2013 08:23

OohBridget · 24/11/2013 08:23

Aquarius we do a mix so im not sure it's that either!

I think asdas nappies are really good.

Never noticed any dodgy smells.

Except the usual Grin

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/11/2013 08:24

Oh good.
They definitely all smell different though.
Lidl or pampers are my faves.m

CommanderShepard · 24/11/2013 08:31

In the interests of SCIENCE I have just been to smell my emergency pack of Sainsbury's Little Ones (we mostly use cloth, but not out and about or on hols) and I can confirm no odd smells.

I also got DH to smell and he corroborated.

Oh the things I do for SCIENCE Mumsnet...

DidntBadWolfDragOn · 24/11/2013 08:34

I usually use cloth but when ever I use sposies I always think they stink

I used to get a horrendous stench of ammonia using cloth on BabyDragon. Truly awful. They also brought her out in terrible nappy rash which vanished when she was in disposables! She always has been weird...

FuzzyWuzzywasaWoman · 24/11/2013 08:35

I use little angels all the time, three different products from the same range and never noticed a smell. It does sound dodgy, get it checked out.

Monkeyandanimal · 24/11/2013 08:35

oh dear, i have bought 2 big packs for impending new baby...don't want to use them now if they are awfully chemically.....

SomethingkindaOod · 24/11/2013 08:37

Sound like a bad batch to me, just sniffed ours and they smell fine.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/11/2013 08:38

I noticed that with aldi nappies. Having used them with dd1 and found them to be as good as the expensive brands I bought some for dd2. They must har changes them because they stank and made dd really sore.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 24/11/2013 08:50

I've never noticed a smell with asda nappies.

MollyMatey · 24/11/2013 08:52

All disposable nappies have a chemical smell - I think you just get used to whatever you use most.

GreatBallsofFluff · 24/11/2013 08:53

I really don't want to worry you but there were a couple of posts on a local facebook page in the past couple of weeks saying that a girl had some burns at the top of her legs from the chemicals in Pampers. I seem to recall that another person commented saying it had happened with Asda nappies in the area too.

As I say I don't want to worry you but just proceed with caution.

MollyMatey · 24/11/2013 08:53

DidntBadWolfDragOn - if your cloth nappies smell of ammonia they probably just need a strip wash. If you have been using too much detergent when washing them, it builds up in the fabric and holds that ammonia smell.

TossedSaladsAndScrambledEggs · 24/11/2013 08:56

Asda nappies were the best ones I ever tried IMO, and I never noticed the smell! Still use their pull-ups. I would get some other ones, stop using those and email asda or take them back. You never know you might get some vouchers! Smile

yourcruisedirector · 24/11/2013 08:59

We use cloth and all disposables smell this way to me in varying degrees. We were given some Sainsbury's disposables earlier this year and used them for a day out - DD developed a low grade burn all over one side of her bottom which took a day or two to fade. It was bright pink, and not where the wee would have been. Very odd.

peggyblackett · 24/11/2013 08:59

We occasionally use Asda nappies an they've been fine.

If contact their customer services - it sounds like a dodgy batch.
