To not move DD into a bed yet?

DD is 2.8 and still in her cot. I thought that this was normal (PFB), until reading something elsewhere which suggested most children are in beds by now and so I'm beginning to doubt what we're doing/planning to do.

She sleeps well and has never attempted to climb out - when she wakes in the morning she chats to herself until we get her up, so is perfectly happy in there. We're not planning anymore children so don't need to use the cot for a baby. We've not started potty training yet (but imagine that she would still wear nappies at night to begin with anyway?) know sod all about potty training

We will be moving house next year, not sure when exactly but she will be somewhere between 3.3 and 3.9 when we do. Assuming that she continues to be happy in the cot, WIBU to wait until we move to get her a bed? If there any particular reason a child needs to be in a bed before 3?

How is leaving a 2yo in a cot/cotbed with the sides up treating them like babies?

I had to move ds2 at 3 as he was toilet trained and no more night nappies so had to be able to get out. His room tiny (we moving soon., age 3.9 but had to get toddler bed). Ds 1 refused to sleep in cot after after 2.5. Just have to wait and see.

Not sure thurlow I thought that was odd too.
My two year old is growing up at her own pace where she sleeps doesn't make a jot of difference and she doesn't have her mates to Kay over yet either how I'm failing!

Yanbu. DS was happy in his cot until he was 3.2 then he decided to climb out.

DD climbed out at 2.6 and has been a terror ever since.

Dd is 3.1 and still in a cot, our plan is to get her bed in February once a few things are out the way. She's slept on a bed on holiday before. I don't give a monkeys what other people think

I have a cot, very basic babysrus one. Can I take the side off or will it become unstable? Not a cotbed.

Don't understand how I could take a side off and it remain safe.

Can I ask what you all do about bedding? DS2 still in a cotbed (he's almost 2) but is bursting out of his sleeping bag. Loathe to buy another as he might have to move at any time if he started climbing, and will definitely need to move in the next few months as I am PG.
But you can't use a duvet in a cotbed really can you?

Aldi do a lovely cot bed duvet for 7 quid. That's all I use. They also sell the covers and pillow. She's very cosy.

That's what dd has and her sides are all up.
She looks very cosy. I used blankets up till I bought that, she's never been partial to a bag.

Another, weve just moved to a duvet in the cotbed. After tips on here we bought a single 4.5 tog duvet which we put on sideways, so half the duvet is actually underneath the mattress. You can tuck in the loose side a lot too so the toddler's quite effectively trapped in! It's worked really well for us and DD hasn't lost the duvet yet, because it is so tucked in she stays underneath it. Single duvet covers are often cheaper than cotbed duvet covers and you get non-child/patterned ones too, which personally I prefer.

Ikea do cotbed duvets and pillows.

As long as your DD is happy in her cot and not climbing out keep her in there! Why make life harder? My DD was in a cot until 3.5 - the catalyst for getting a bed was that we were going to spend Christmas at my parents where she would be in a single bed so we wanted to get her used to a bed at home before we went. The transition to a bed was seamless, no problems going to bed and no traumas about not wanting to be in her bed. In hindsight we could have done it a bit earlier, but she is on the shorter side so stil had enough room, and, most importantly had not tried to climb out.

DS was out at 2 because he couldn't physically fit in it any more and stretch out.

Sizzles some cots are sturdy with 3 sides, some aren't. It depends how it's built.

He did fall out until he was about four and a half though, never got round to buying him a bed guard either as I was assured by the HV that he would soon stop falling out once he'd done it a couple of times Poor neglected child! I did put an old duvet down by the side of his bed after a while!

we've just taken the sides off DS's cot this week and he's 3.6!!!

We kept DD in a cot until she jumped out over the side and broke her elbow (it needed pinning and she has an awful scar). She was coming up to 3. It was the 1 and only time she has climbed out!

Dim-gosh how awful but proves my point about safety bring such an issue. I have pins and screws after an injury, wouldn't wish that on anyone x
