As the title says, thinking of the likes of Barbour, Hunter, Toms and going back a few years to Burberry, and all counterfeit! I'm sticking to my Bench and Skechers!

I'm glad it's not just me who loathes the trem chav.

Won't say what I think of the OP because last time I did that I got deleted. Twice. Which was as many times as I'd been deleted in all my years of membership previously. Sad

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 20/11/2013 22:40

snort @ bench being decent!

Grin Grin Grin

Lilithmoon · 20/11/2013 22:41

OP your post is nasty and you should be ashamed.

FloozeyLoozey · 20/11/2013 22:41

And people say class doesn't matter. Threads like this are proof class is still alive and kicking.

Salmotrutta · 20/11/2013 22:42

I seem to remember DD being into Bench when she was about 15.

That was over 10 years ago.

I am waaaay out of touch with fashion Sad

HaroldTheGoat · 20/11/2013 22:43

Bench & sketchers are very last decade. Grin

usualsuspect · 20/11/2013 22:47

At least those dreadful poor people don't wear Hollister.

Famzilla · 20/11/2013 22:48

You had me until Toms. Toms have always been the shoe of the week in Magaluf. Nothing classy about that.

I remember when hunters were £35 and I'm only 24. Seriously hoping mine done start leaking as there's no way I can afford or justify their 200% increase.

I do laugh that people are spending so much on waxed jackets at the moment. I have a well loved flyweight Barbour that has seen me through many seasons (grew up on a farm) , and even I'm not immune enough to the smell to see it as a naice coat. People are gonna have a shock by next winter.

SPsWouldCatFishNev · 20/11/2013 22:58

How do people pick clothes in Holister?! Its too dark and creepy

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 20/11/2013 23:04

ooh famzilla my dad was big into his horsey culture when we were little and we each had a very tiny and very cute wax coat (i'm talking aged 1/2/3ish) I still remember the smell even though he hasn't had one in the house in about 15 years Grin

Isawitchcackling · 20/11/2013 23:11

You're not a chav then Greenbananas if you don't wear branded clothing.

I thought a 'chav' was someone who was short on class and bought designer clothes (or fakes) with obvious labels and flashy things which try to shout stats symbol and manged to wear them in a way which makes them look cheap and tacky. You could be filthy rich and still a chav. Being working class doesn't make you a chav does it?

PresidentServalan · 20/11/2013 23:21

Chavs aren't working class - and people get so wound up about the term only on MN. Everyone judges people (many threads on here are proof of that. Hmm

greenbananas · 20/11/2013 23:30

I didn't say I was a chav, I said I live in a chavvy area and have lots of friends who could be seen as chavvy.

Years ago I worked with a young delinquent who was proud of being seen as a chav. .. How times have changed!

I don't wear branded clothing. .. But I still feel that people see me as chavvy when I visit the (posh) town I grew up in, wearing my asda jeans and badly fitting second hand coat Sad I wish people didn't judge by appearances... But they do!

If wearing crap branded clothes gives people a bit of status within a community, then fair enough. I don't buy into it myself, but can't criticise those who do.

Twattyzombiebollocks · 21/11/2013 06:29

Don't like the word chav at all, but I agree hunter wellies have gone to the dogs. I paid £50 for my first pair some 17 years ago, they were good solid wellies and suffered years of daily abuse at the stables, I even rode in them. Moved onto muck boots when the hunters died, much warmer. Came to buy a pair about 5 years ago, paid a fortune and they lasted 6 months!

RevengeWiggle · 21/11/2013 06:42

Is that true salmotrutta? That's interesting. I was always incredibly excited by a secret inside pocket in my coats when I was a kid, didn't know I was supposed to keep a salmon in it.

valiumredhead · 21/11/2013 07:35

Salmon-I love my Dh's poacher's pocket,I don't need to take a bag with me as I can put all manner of crap in thereGrin

My great uncle was a poacher, he wore a wax jacketGrin

loopdaloo · 21/11/2013 07:46

Wow, supposed to be a lighthearted thread, perhaps I am a twat!

People seem to be getting offended at the word chav because they are poor. You can be poor and not a chav. Maybe I see chav as something different, but in real life chav is used to refer to anything flashy and tasteless, not someone who is poor. Think it is true that it is only on mumsnet that people claim they are actually offended by the word chav. Just because some guy published a paper about it demonising the working then pulling a Hmm face when someone uses the word doesn't make all empathetic with the poor. Katie price is still a chav.

phantomhairpuller · 21/11/2013 08:10

Are you fairly new to MN op? Confused

RevengeWiggle · 21/11/2013 08:16

I dislike the word because it's used in a derogatory way, to whoever rich or poor. Looking down your nose at people because you don't like the way they dress is quite sad.

ssd · 21/11/2013 08:19

arent sketchers granny shoes?

nilbyname · 21/11/2013 08:24

Chav is a horrible word. Would you around calling someone gay or a retard?

Thought not.

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 21/11/2013 08:27

Ah, well, if chav means people that are not like you then I'm happy to say I'm definitely squarely a chav.

dashoflime · 21/11/2013 08:30

Chavs do not "Hijack" brands. High end labels attempt to expand their customer base by producing products for the mass market. Get a fucking grip.
