To think people should stop to ask if i was ok?!

Ok maybe its because i am so embarrassed! Lastnight on the way home from uni it was dark and wet outside, i am 38 weeks pregnant. My bus decided to terminate early meaning i was left to walk to the next bus stop in the rain to catch my other bus. As i was walking on the wet slippery leaves my legs went from under me and i ended up sprawled across the pavement on my side. Hmm I sprained my ankle and have hurt my ribs and arm, baby seems to be fine though. The streets were packed with people and cars stuck in traffic but not one person asked if i was ok. I ended up limping to the next bus stop in tears :( good old London folk!

YANBU to expect help after you slipped, however, YABU to assume that 9,787,426 people are all the same base on the crap actions of a few.

hellokittymania · 19/11/2013 15:05

YANBU.

bluehearted · 19/11/2013 15:05

So sorry this happened to you!! I would have helped if I had seen you! I would stop and help anyone if they fell, pregnant or not (more so if pregnant!!) people can be very rude and someone should have helped you!
I had similar but on the tube once, heavily pregnant and no one helped me either so I can relate!!
I'm relieved that you and baby are ok! Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy x

SecretWitch · 19/11/2013 15:09

YANBU. I would have stopped immediately to assist you in whatever way I could! I just do not understand how people can walk by an injured pregnant woman and not lend a hand :( I do hope you are feeling better. Rib injuries can be so painful and add an almost term baby to that....xx

bluehearted · 19/11/2013 15:15

I meant to add YANBU

valiumredhead · 19/11/2013 15:27

Oh you poor thingSad I don't think it's London folk though, I found them the most friendly and willing to stop and help when I lived there, I think you were just really unlucky Brew Thanks

eatriskier · 19/11/2013 16:22

Just to give some kudos to the folk of London, a few years ago I slipped in minor wet conditions (seriously minor) but seriously injured myself. This was central London in the middle of rush hour when people are known to be £$^&$%@£$@, and I wasn't pregnant. I had several lovely people come and help me.

That said Flowers - its awful that there was no one kind about to help you and hope you and bubs are all ok.

Margetts · 19/11/2013 16:24

YANBU

That is appalling !!

PumpkinPie2013 · 19/11/2013 16:30

YANBU - not confined to London though sadly.

I'm up north and when I was still at school one of my friends slipped getting off the bus and really hurt her ankle (struggling to stand up and couldn't walk without help).

Numerous adults around and not one offered assistance or asked if she was ok Sad

Glad you and baby are ok xx

sparklesandbling · 19/11/2013 16:30

Sorry this happened to you. My faith in humanity is being tested recently as had similar experience but with DD (4)

She was having a seizure we had to stop car on pavement to administer emergency medicine. We had to lay her on pavement to do this. Not one person who walked past, cycled or drove past asked if they could do anything.

The whole time (at least 8 mins waiting for ambulance) we were there with a 4 year old on the ground outside a shop aswell.

ProfPlumSpeaking · 19/11/2013 16:33

Aw, I am sorry this happened to you and glad you are okay. I don't think it's Londoners though - both times when I have needed help I have been overwhelmed with people stopping and giving their time (in London). You were just unlucky :-(

Tulip26 · 19/11/2013 16:34

AIBU to think you should go to A&E or your GP 'just in case'?

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 19/11/2013 16:36

Hope you recover soon, I would stop and help anyone that have fallen regardless of pregnancy.

fluffyraggies · 19/11/2013 16:38

:(

That's bloody awful that no one stopped for two seconds to help you. I would've (not much help to you now, i know!) What its the world coming to??

I fell down the steps of a shop a couple of summers ago, due to my stupid high wedges and being in a hurry. A little old lady picked me up Blush

WestieMamma · 19/11/2013 16:39

I think that when it's cold, dark and wet people keep their heads down, their eyes blinkered and focused on where they want to get to and can become oblivious to what is going on around them.

Joysmum · 19/11/2013 16:44

My elderly father in law feel in the street and hit his face so had blood poring from his nose and a cut. He was calling out to people for help and people pretended not to see him and some actually crossed to the wrong side of the road to avoid being caught up Angry

Luckily a passing jogger knew of dad and where he lived even though he didn't know him. He walked dad the 200m home and called an ambulance and told the paramedics all this which is how we found out.

Turned out dad had had a stroke which is why his hands were not hurt (he didn't try to save himself) and his face was bashed up. If dad had for help sooner he might not have been so badly affect by the stroke. I'm fucking livid.

sparklesandbling · 19/11/2013 16:48

The thing is people were looking and watching as the road we stopped on has traffic lights - when on phone to ambulance services, caught several people watching in their cars and people walking past did look in our direction.

I was looking for ambulance so was looking around frantically at this point.

Sorry for hijack OP

whois · 19/11/2013 16:49

I fell off my bike in london a few me the ago (totally minor, but went flying) and about three people ran over to see if I was ok.

I think you must live in a mean part of london OP.

whois · 19/11/2013 16:49

*few months ago

havingastress · 19/11/2013 16:49

YANBU. I think it is Londoners, sorry! Or certainly big city syndrome.

I was once stuck in Kings Cross at the bottom of the stairs going up from the underground for over half an hour, struggling with huge cases I couldn't carry after just having returned from a year abroad. Not one person offered to help in that time, despite me falling a couple of times too!

Also, same station, lots of people running for the train, this girl went flying. About half a dozen people literally ran over her Shock I was the only person who stopped and bent down to help her. One of the train guys came over and then helped us. Best bit - he then upgraded the pair of us to first class Grin. He actually said he quite often saw this type of thing happen where no one helped and it was normally a tourist, not a local, who would stop and help.

Hope you are feeling much better soon - glad the baby is ok Flowers

EeyoreIsh · 19/11/2013 16:55

people should have stopped, but it's a bit harsh to be rude about londoners generally because a few people didn't help.

I hope you and baby are ok.

Ivedunnit · 19/11/2013 16:55

Thats awful {hugs}

WorraLiberty · 19/11/2013 16:56

YANBU to be upset but YABU to have a dig at Londoners

You could do exactly the same thing in exactly the same place tomorrow, and get a totally different reaction.

Hope you're ok now though.

coldwater1 · 19/11/2013 17:04

Unfortunately where i live in london most people seem to lack manners or respect. Not once have i been offered a seat on public transport, even after i fell on a packed bus due to it breaking hard. Until i experience people with some manners in croydon i will think the same!

YANBU, that's bloody disgusting. I'd have been in tears too. What a bunch of bastards!!
