WIBU to buy new purse after checkout person licked my card?

I have an absolute hatred of spit. When I see people spit I actually start heaving.

Just now I bought something in a supermarket which has a loyalty point scheme. It's a small Co Op branch in my local area.

My loyalty card wouldn't work so the man licked the whole back of the card. Then handed it back to me. I was trying not to be sick and put the card back in my purse.

Now my purse is poisoned. I have a spit purse. I feel sick looking at my poison purse.

Am I over reacting about my spit card and mucky purse?

I didn't want to complain because it's all a bit local and I don't want to get a nice, helpful person into trouble.

But lick my card? That's too much store loyalty for me.

I have to work now but I feel sick. I'm so spit phobic. Perhaps I need a grip for Christmas.

I hate spit too, I agree with you, I feel nauseous if I see people spit in the street, or see it on the pavement.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 19/11/2013 15:44

Why? Just why? Who licks other peoples cards? Yanbu.

passedgo · 19/11/2013 15:46

There's spit and there's lick. Spitting is vile, licking is not. Licking someone else's dirty card is just weird and I would object out of weirdness.

That's gross. I remember helping out in a class where I had to take money and scan a card. One woman put her card in her mouth while rooting for money. I refused to take it as it was covered in slobber, and she had to wipe it clean.

Just wondering if you open envelopes that have been licked.........

Nooooo I live in Bristol! You need to tell me where it happened so I can avoid the place!

RandallFloyd · 19/11/2013 17:32

Well obviously it's a minging thing to do and you should certainly have said something at the time but do all the people who 'hate spit' think the rest of us love it?

I mean, surely it's a given that no one likes spit.
All this, 'I can't stand to see it on the pavement' and 'spit makes me heave' business is a bit redundant isn't it?

Spit makes pretty much everyone heave. You're not a special snowflake if you don't like spit. You're a weirdo if you do like it.

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 19/11/2013 17:47

That is grim! I wouldn't have taken the card back!!

The first thing I thought of when I read this though was does the guy do this to lots of cards? Isn't he worried about where the cards have been?!

Seriously weird.

A medium sized child sneezed and left a slimer on my wrist the other day . Yuck and thank God for Chlorox

It's disgusting of course but your initial response was irrational and hence unreasonable (as was that of half the people on the thread - do we get a bulk discount for multi-orders of grips?). Well done for having got a sense of perspective.
