to think if you wanted coffee with a friend, McDonalds would not be the obvious place to go?

I mean - it's not even served in a mug.

Just seen the advert and I was surprised to see McDonalds were trying to market themselves as a place to go for a coffee.

The smallness, narrowness and general family-unfriendliness of mine is just why I (and my colleagues) love it so much!!!

pigletmania · 18/11/2013 22:30

Dh family from Malta, in Malta teir is a special MacCafe section which looks like a coffee shop, lovely looking cakes and cffee in mugs

LovelyMarchHare · 18/11/2013 22:33

At least McDonald's coffee is hot unlike the overpriced tepid Starbucks offerings. Maybe she's filled up her loyalty card and is after her freebie.

feelingood · 18/11/2013 22:34

you are being very short sighted, it is well known fact that their chocolate brownies are a hidden gem amongst the err rest of the menu.

you get free wifi too and the one near us is done out very naice.

caruthers · 18/11/2013 22:38

I have yet to have a decent coffee outside of my own kitchen or a friends.
And I just wont pay the prices of the rip off brands.

They did away with the brownies in my nearest one. :(

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 18/11/2013 22:44

I would not go. I might get grease on my McQueen scarf.

Xmasbaby11 · 18/11/2013 22:44

I don't go to McDonalds, so the best coffee in the world wouldn't change that. But it's great there is a cheaper alternative for people who like coffee and McDonalds. I do think Costa et al are overpriced for the products (although good quality) … but I like the atmosphere and feel I am paying for that. I like to support local cafes, but sometimes a chain is more convenient due to facilities, opening hours etc. When I see independent cafes with a handful of tiny chairs, I know they are not aiming to attract me and toddler DD .. so I look in wistfully and then move along!

Scholes34 · 18/11/2013 22:45

The coffee is much better than Starbuck's. However, not a place condusive to hanging around.

HazeltheMcWitch · 18/11/2013 22:45

Do they really want people on dates drinking cheap coffee and hogging a table for an hour when they could have several groups of people eating meals?

yes, as coffee drinkers tend to want to sit in at times when burger-eaters do not - so McD's would be using un-used capacity.

BackforGood · 18/11/2013 22:56

The coffee is nice.
My local McDs has big squishy chairs and settees too.
Good place to sit for a while if you are on your own / catching up on work between appts., but have to agree, not really where I'd choose to "go for a coffee" with anyone if it were the socialising that were important. That said, I guess it depends on your options - I live in a City so have hundreds of choices.

expatinscotland · 18/11/2013 23:04

I like to have coffee in Maccy D's. Not a rip off. Good. No hassle to leave pronto. Space.

Aussiemum78 · 18/11/2013 23:04

Not sure if the UK is the same but almost all McDonalds in Australia are getting more "cafe" like. More healthy food options and more "homemade-ish" appearing food like sandwiches/cake/muffins/salads, sofas, quiet areas away from playgrounds, free wi-fi, better coffee. Its not a bad place to meet for a coffee now.

Going to the US is like stepping back into 1980's Australian McDonalds. All unhealthy, noisy, crappy/tired fitouts. Completely different.

Still18atheart · 18/11/2013 23:10

I had some time to kill before work the other day so went through the drive thru for a coffee. And i'm a self confessed coffee snob and it was lovely.

I wouldn't necessarily say to a friend lets meet for a coffee and a natter at maccie D's but if I need a caffeine kick and a maccie D's is nearby I would happily go

WhereIsMyHat · 18/11/2013 23:16

Their coffee is good. If te baby falls asleep in the car I sometimes go through the drive thru and just get a coffee and park up somewhere and enjoy the peace with a coffee and radio 4/ five live for company.

dustwhatdust · 19/11/2013 12:19

Good value, nice coffee and quick - will happily choose McD for coffee on my own but probably wouldn't suggest it to a friend - probably think they might be a bit snooty about it, like the OP - sorry Grin
