Of course I would, so I am not going to. BUT, I flat share in the city I go to uni in. Wonderful flat mate, beautiful flat and quite cheap. We both enjoy not having to put the heating on, due to heat rising and us being toastie even in the coldest weather.

Tonight is not cold though and I am sweletering in the heat. I do not have the heating on. I can see the smoke/steam or whatever it is, coming from downstairs flats central heating, so she clearly has hers on. I am now sat with the balcony door open, trying to cool down a little.

I wonder is she is ill, to have the heating on when it isn't even cold.

And I have to go out early to scrape the car this morning because it was so frosty last night.

Morloth · 19/11/2013 07:08

Alright justmyview I have to ask.

How is this 'stealth boasting'?!

Sorry, bit of an aside there MammaTJ.

I have turned it around and around, but I can't quite grasp how anyone could read your post as any sort of boast.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 19/11/2013 08:35

This clearly wasn't stealth boasting but it's one of MN's fave terms, so it gets over used.

Morloth · 19/11/2013 11:30

Was just totally random though.

How can complaining about being a bit hot because of someone else's heating be boasting at all?

Very strange.

curiousgeorgie · 19/11/2013 11:33

Waitingforme... Definitely not. I'm thinking the same thing!!

OrlandoWoolf · 19/11/2013 11:47

If you are a bit hot, then downstairs must have their heating set really high. I also live in a flat so benefit from downstairs Grin

Sallyingforth · 19/11/2013 11:53

Lucky you, OP.
It's ideal for indoor pegging!

QuintessentialShadows · 19/11/2013 11:57

I am currently eating an ice cream.

Is that also a stealth boast? Wink

RedHelenB · 19/11/2013 12:09

Offer to swap flats?

monicalewinski · 19/11/2013 12:57

It is a stealth boast!!

You have free heating, a toasty flat with fresh air and a BALCONY!!!!!

I'm well jel Envy

PrammyMammy · 19/11/2013 13:06

Yabu. I lived in a flat once, I remember this problem and I LOVED it.

digerd · 19/11/2013 13:36

Envy too at the toasty warm all winter with no heating and a balcony.
YABU. Nobody has their heating on if they are not cold without it.
If she is on the ground floor she is disadvantaged and as the insulation between floors is obviously lacking, you are blessedSmile

MammaTJ · 19/11/2013 13:55

She is sort of ground floor in one half and above one flat in the other! Hard to explain but this city has no flat surfaces , all hills. So, there is a flat across the front, then two flats that are half over that and half on the ground, then two more flats, one of which I am in!

Hello StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes!

I thought a stealth boast was pretending to be unhappy about something that actually was a good thing eg it's a pity the price of fuel has gone up, as it's now even more expensive to fly my helicopter

That's why I thought it was a stealth boast - OP is complaining about her house being warm, when most of us are wincing at the cost of heating our homes and plenty of people are seriously concerned about whether or not they can afford to do so. Plenty of people would consider OP very fortunate

kelda · 19/11/2013 14:10

Do you really get steam/smoke from central heating? Is that normal?Confused are you sure it's not coming from a tumble dryer or fire?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/11/2013 14:20

No wonder she's got the heating on high. All the hot air is rising into your flat and hers is staying cold. I feel sorry for your neighbour.

RubberBullets · 19/11/2013 14:28

It's freezing here in Cornwall :(

SpookedMackerel · 19/11/2013 14:28

We used to live in a similar situation, first floor flat above someone who clearly had their heating cranked to the tropical setting.

I didn't turn a single heater on all winter, and kept the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom windows permanently open.

We have moved now :( Enjoy it while it lasts OP!

MammaTJ · 19/11/2013 15:19

You will be pleased to know it is bloody freezing here today and she is obviously out. Heating is actually on here now. A rarity!
