'Hi girls. I have just given my Filipino all my baby clothes and she is so grateful and sending them to her friends and family back home who have lost everything.. If any of you have any things to give then please get in touch as it's for such a wonderful cause.'

It was on a closed FB group.

Her Filipino?

I presume that's the bit you're referring to anyway!

softlysoftly · 18/11/2013 20:03

The entire post is a good idea apart from the bit you highlighted Shock

HyvaPaiva · 18/11/2013 20:03
Shock

YANBU, OP.

bluecheeseforbreakfast · 18/11/2013 20:04

I guess the poster just missed out the word "friend" from her post?

pianodoodle · 18/11/2013 20:04

Oh yes just read your 2nd post!

Does make the person sound like a pet poodle. Maybe she forgot to put "my filipino friend" or something?

Just clutching at straws in the hope that no one would intentionally refer to another person like that!

BadgersRetreat · 18/11/2013 20:04

ha that was what i was going to post blue

BornThisCrazy · 18/11/2013 20:05

It seems she may have missed the word 'friend' after writing Filipino?

thebody · 18/11/2013 20:05

are they expats in Dubai?

pianodoodle · 18/11/2013 20:05

Bah x-post with bluecheese

My phone doesn't refresh quickly :(

Mintyy · 18/11/2013 20:06

Yanbu. I know someone who talks about her Filipino. Drives me nuts.

WinkyWinkola · 18/11/2013 20:06

No she means her cleaner.

OP posts:
DameDeepRedBetty · 18/11/2013 20:07

I refuse to clutch at straws. She's talking about her housekeeper isn't she?!

WinkyWinkola · 18/11/2013 20:07

And she lives in north London.

My mil keeps telling me I need to get a Filipino.

VerySmallSqueak · 18/11/2013 20:08

I find it more than irritating.

It disgusts me tbh.

(Unless of course the word 'friend' was left out.)

bluecheeseforbreakfast · 18/11/2013 20:08

Oh gosh, well that is awful.

Slipshodsibyl · 18/11/2013 20:09

Yes. Her maid.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/11/2013 20:10

Her Filipino what? Friend? Colleague?

YANBU. It does have derogatory overtones. Sounds like she's referring to them as a pet Hmm

Minty82 · 18/11/2013 20:10

I'm assuming they're expats in Hong Kong, Singapore or somewhere in the Middle East? There's a huge community in many countries of live-in Filipino maids, and yes, people refer to them like that. YANBU. It's not just the reference to 'her Filipino'; the whole post is outrageously patronising and noblesse oblige.

bunnymother · 18/11/2013 20:10

I understood that a woman from the Phillipines is called a Filipina, not Filipino.

Anyhow, the person who posted that comment used an unfortunate expression, but it doesn't mean it's indicative of their relationship.

And what she says is true - many people in the Phillipines are in great need and it's, obviously, important to help out, if possible.
