the salon should refuse to do your hair. Day off work today. Had 3 hour hair appointment for highlights. I am always on time. I have never been late for an appointment. Bare in mind I have beening going to this salon for 20 years so know the owner well and all the staff. I had early appointment so was only customer in shop. My point is this.........another customer phoned to say she was going to be 20 mins late, (apparently late all the time). She actually turned up 30 minutes late. The salon were not happy at all. Do you think she should have been told that her hair could not be done as her lateness would make the customers after her late......the hairdresser that does her hair had all her bookings made for the day until she left at 2.30pm to collect her kids from school. In this woman being late the hairdresser lost money as she could not complete all her bookings because of this woman.........really selfish I think

YANBU at all sadly the always late woman might disagree

5Foot5 · 15/11/2013 16:49

I too think people who are habitually late for things are selfish but, in this instance, since it didn't inconvenience or delay you I fail to see why you are bothered. It is the hairdressers business what they do about it.

princessalbert · 15/11/2013 16:52

YANBU

However, if the salon refused to do her hair then they would be ££ down. So of course they will still do it, maybe just have to work double fast to fit her in.
Lateness is rude though - especially if she is consistently late. the salon should book her in for 9.30am, but tell her it is 9.00am..

this is what I do when making arrangements with my brother. Grin

Mrsmorton · 15/11/2013 16:55

Chronic lateness is so rude. It drives me to absolute distraction but sadly, yes the salon have to pander to her because they would lose money otherwise. How annoying for you.

Mylovelyboy · 15/11/2013 16:56

Did not bother me at all got my hair done ok.............I think its a lot peoples ignorance and inconsideration that I find selfish. I just find being late in general through your own selfishness is wrong when it affects others

princess the salon were ££ down. The hairdresser could not do her last appointment because of this woman. She had to leave at 2.30 to pick her kids up. Thought if was wrong of the salon to let this happen as the last client got a rough deal because of the selfish first one.

YANBU
Wouldn;t you just love it if the salon stopped cutting/ colouring her hair at the end of her appointment time and told her that she would have to book another appointment to get it finished! Wink Sadly, I can't see it happening. Sad Habitual lateness drives me mad

princessalbert · 15/11/2013 17:00

Ah, I see.

Then yes, she should have been turned away - so that the afternoon apt could go ahead.

If I were the last client, I would prob go elsewhere for my hair doing , after that. If you book an appointment, you expect it to go ahead.

FaceAglowPantsOfSand · 15/11/2013 17:03

It probably wasn't down though. She will have paid, as opposed to the last person. Either way they took the same amont of money- if they'd turned her away they'd have lost her cash,

FaceAglowPantsOfSand · 15/11/2013 17:03

Well might not be the same money, depending on what each was having done but yswim

Mylovelyboy · 15/11/2013 17:05

Salon owner is a long standing mate. We spoke earlier. The last client had to wait 40 mins for another member of staff to be free to do her hair Shock I told mate I thought it was out of order. Agreed and said will have to change strategy for the furture selfish late ones. I would be boiling if it was me

If the hairdresser couldn't complete her bookings there were going to be some pretty pissed off customers who either didn't get their hair done or who had to be fitted in with another stylist. If that happened to me I would not be pleased

Mylovelyboy · 15/11/2013 17:07

The last client was in for cut and highlights. Salon only had time for the cut......

Usually hairdressers can find ways of squeezing everyone in. So, a junior might wash some hair, or take out some foils, or another hairdresser with some extra time might do a colour while the other catches up with a haircut.

It is rude to be so late for an appointment, but I'm sure it's nothing the salon couldn't handle.

Felyne · 15/11/2013 17:12

If I was the salon, next time she rang to book I would write her booking down 30 minutes later than she wanted, so if she asked for a 10.00 I would put it in the book as 10.30, and give someone else the 10.00 slot. Then if she does arrive earlier she can just wait while the stylist finishes the 10.00 appointment. If she complained about the wait, I'd say sorry our first appointment turned up late and it's meant our whole day is now running late.

Might make her think. (Probably wouldn't, thinking about others isn't a strong point in the chronically late)

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 15/11/2013 17:24

I guess that if they had turned her away and then someone else had been late or not turned up then they would have been down 2 lots of money.

This happened the last time I was at the hair dressers. They managed to fit the woman in but she sort of had to fit around everyone else and wait at times and they all raced around like mad things.

It's a pretty big salon though so they are more able to make up time.

Sokmonsta · 17/11/2013 02:23

My hairdresser offers a shortened appointment if you are late. So if you're booked in for a cut and colour, your colour is likely not to be done. A wash and blow dry would be just a dry cut.

It isn't fair to the following customers to have their time cut short and not get the experience they wanted, so it's reasonable that the person who is late has their cut amended so the next person isn't made to be late. If they don't like that then they have the choice to book another appointment.

Chottie · 17/11/2013 04:45

I'm afraid this is symbolic of a lot of people who are regularly late. Not sure whether they are genuinely disorganised or just so full of themselves and their self importance.

I tend to have early morning hair dressers appointments for this very reason and I have lovely hair all day too

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 17/11/2013 06:05

Rude rude rude. Not only is it unfair to the following customers, it's very disrespectful to the hairdresser, like "why would I bother being on time, surely they can accommodate me and my plans...?"
I have a bee in my bonnet about it as DP is a hairdresser and this happens to him a fair bit.

PumpkinPie2013 · 17/11/2013 09:32

YANBU it's really rude to be regularly late for appointments be it at the hairdressers, doctors or wherever!

If she was a regular customer who was normally on time and this was a genuine one off lateness of a few mins fine but she seems to have no concept of other people!

Had I been the last customer I'm afraid they'd have lost my custom - I only let one stylist do my hair because she knows exactly how I have it done.

I was in thd GP surgery the other week and a man was complaining as he turned up 30 mins late without phoning and with no real explanation and they couldn't fit him in!!! Rude!

For regular lateness I'd turn her away. It's certainly not fair that another person should miss out on her appointment and it's piss poor of your salon to allow that to happen.

WooWooOwl · 17/11/2013 10:12

The salon should have turned her away, but I don't have much sympathy for the fact that they lost money. It was their bad management that caused that to happen. If you're running a business like a hair salon you have to factor in the fact that some clients will be late or cancel last minute, and it doesn't take a genius to work out that you don't allow your other clients to receive a lower level of service because of the inconsiderate ones.

DottyboutDots · 17/11/2013 10:18

Always book her late, i'm with Felyne. Or offer compromised appointment to late and rude customer.

anniepanniepears · 17/11/2013 10:22

I have been getting my hair done by the same girl (woman)for over 20 years
during the summer I went to get my nails done before my hair appointment and was running 15 mins late(thought I had enough time ) for the hairdresser
due to the fact that I had been a regular customer for years I thought she would have fitted me in but no she offered me another junior hairdresser I politely declined and made an appointment for another day, so if this lady is always late they need to pull her up about it
