At Domino's yesterday.

Three medium pizzas, £46 they wanted! Shock That's with us picking up - not delivered.

DH ordered them over the phone, got off the phone, looked at me strangely, rang them back, queried the price, and cancelled the order.

3 bits of flat dough, a smear of tomato paste and a few bits of veg served in cardboard boxes. Delicious - but ... sorry i'm going to say it again ... £46???

My god what a brilliant business idea I have just had! Call it 'pseudopizzas'.

The cost of take away pizzas has always bemused me. YANBU. They have to be made of gold. If Iceland are making a profit selling pizzas for £1.50 (which they will be) then that gives you some idea of what the mark up will be on a Dominos pizza.

Ridiculous!!!!!
You can get a blow out takeaway of restaurant quality food from our local posh Indian for that and enough Chinese for two days for less than £25.

Never do Pizza as our only takeaway would be a pricy Italian restaurant (no domino's for 13 miles). However, I doubt even they'd want £43 for 3

I've never understood why people pay so much for domino's etc.

I think some frozen pizzas are perfectly nice, current fave is goodfellas new extra thin one, which has been on offer for about £1.40 and can be cooked in the oven faster than domino's can deliver.

I've had domino pizza once, as it was on offer for £4.99 for a large pizza. I wouldn't pay more than that and it wasn't very nice either.

Jeez Maryz - a whole partyload of Dominos like it's some kind of status symbol?

Pizza was invented as 'poor man's food'. I remember when Dominos was the thing you got when you had run out of real food.

Hate Dominoes, cheap and nasty ingredients for a not so cheap price!

When we have pizza we get made fresh at the Asda counter, really tasty and 2 for £4.

Another vote for asda make your own. Fab value!

This is the sole reason why we now shop at asda instead of tesco!

See, i do genuinely like Donino's pizzas Blush So does DH and DCs. Sadly. I'd love to be able to say 'ah well, they're shite anyway', but i'd be kidding myself Grin (they must be sprinkling something on them in our local one which makes you eat the lot!)

However - i know they're not worth anyway near what we're paying for them ... even with a discount!

We get a 16 inch meat feast (with pepperoni, salami, chicken and ham) on it, delivered, for £8.50. It is delicious, and they have to tip the box sideways to get it through the door Grin

Look for a local pizza place and chances are the pizza will be as nice or nicer and the price lower.

On a similar note, I paid 4.29 for a birthday card in a railway station branch of WHS yesterday and felt dizzy! When did cards become routinely more than four pounds? I only paid £8 for the present... They had me over a barrel though as I needed a card quickly.

If you are buying 3 medium pizzas then you would be better off buying 2 large which gets you the same amount of pizza but for 34 quid instead of 45.

You can always do the half and half to get the right mix of preferred toppings...

Never go to Dominos without a discount voucher, even then they're overpriced and not nearly as nice as our lovely local pizza place.

Pizza is not my favourite thing to eat, but occasionally I have a fancy for it, so when we order we always use Dominos,

However the Personal size is plenty big enough for me, so two Personal pizzas, one for DD2 and one for me comes to £13, and DD1 who hates pizza, and any other form of cheese has the chicken strippers, you can get two for £7, so that's us all fed for £20!

i much prefer Pizza Hut, and never have Domino's even though DH gets 50% discount

agree that Asda make your own are really good for shop-bought ones.

i remember being in pizza hut and a bloke came in and said he ordered pizza on the phone and his name was, girl said yes your pizzas are ready for you, she brought them over, 5 medium pizzas - she asked him for something like £64 - he looked at her like she had rabbits ears on and said in a very raised voice "how much", he also looked like someone had stuck a hot poker up his arse - she repeated it again - "he said you must have that figure wrong its only 5 pizzas". "No" she said. "stick them up your arse" he said im not paying that and walked out. she turned to everyone in the queue and said anyone want some free pizza :)

i have only ever had 1 pizza from dominos and it tasted like cardboard, pizza hut is better but we normally buy pizza at asda, they always put on loads of topping and are cheap as chips.

I used to work at the deli/pizza counter at Asda,

My pizzas were legendary! I used to pile the toppings on so much, that the wrapper thing would have great difficulty covering them Grin

When we order Domino's - firstly, I normally do it because I love their online ordering. I don't have to talk to anyone. Perfect for a misanthrope. Secondly, I order under the "deals" tab - buy one get one half off.

Yes, it's expensive. You need to get the thin and crispy crust IMHO.

We get the "Feed 4 for £5 each" deal. Two pizzas, wedges, garlic pizza bread (free extra one if you order online with a code) and a bottle of drink. We get two meals out of that so it's not bad for a treat.

It is damn expensive though, and I do generally make my own from scratch.

I use Just Eat and our local pizza place does 3 pizzas for £15 - that is delivered and with a free cheese garlic bread.

£22.99 for the go large feed 4 deal. Potato wedges, garlic bread, 2 large pizzas and a bottle if coke. It does us for a dinner then lunch the next day.

Grin yes online ordering would appeal to DH. I always ring for takeaway, even though he collects it.

He hates talking on the phone and I hate parallel parking, works just fine.

We usually get asda fresh pizzas, but if we fancy a greasy takeaway pizza, we use our local independent place. Pizzas are around £10 each, but on permanent BOGOF. Or they do meal deals, eg one large and one medium pizza, plus chicken and sides and drink, for £15! Like a PP, we generally have enough left for lunch the next day.

passedgo · 11/11/2013 13:50

OK for all of you who think £40 is cheap for a pizza meal, message me and I'll dress up in moped gear with a big box and deliver you pizza (cheese on toast) and wedges (sliced potatoes) with coleslaw (winter veg with mayonnaise).

It will taste a lot better and I will be a lot richer!

YANBU. I knew you'd be referring to Domino's before I even opened the thread!

It's a total rip off. I know it's 'branded', but it's just a pizza ffs.

Our local kebab house ( Blush ) do far better ones for around £6.99 and they're enormous with masses of toppings.
