I collect my friends 5yo from school every Friday and every week there are various degrees of strop from the kids who haven't won and anger at the one whose won Hmm

we have seren yr wythnos/star of the week, but it does seemingly tend to go to the disruptive, more 'naughty' children in general forbeing better tgat week or whatev. Fair enough if if works, but maybe 'most improved' or 'best effort' would be less irritating to parents with chikdren who behave well as a matter of course...?

I think it works well, if it's controlled correctly. It gives children a goal to aim for an achievement.

They have it at DDs (5yrs old) school. Despite this being her 3rd year in school, she's never won the award. She's very aware of this. All of her friends have won it, multiple times in fact.

Alas, one day Sad

The kids at our school are very nice and happy for the one who won as well.

I don't agree with rewarding kids who have improved their shitty behaviour to a borderline acceptable level over the kids who are actually capable of behaving themselves on a day to day basis.

My daughter won it in her very first week at school. She kind of mentioned it in passing sometime during the weekend, but had forgotten her certificate in her locker. She's always very pleased for her friends when they win it.

I can't see the problem with it, and if children strop because they didn't get it that week, I think just dropping the whole thing is not the best way to address it.

DD just got her 1st star of the week and was so happy and pleased with her certificate. I think her teacher will make sure they all get one as time goes by - but won't tell dd that. It has really motivated her.
They also get their names on the rainbow each day if they've been good and that can be several each day so lots of +ve things. She's always excited even by the rainbow, but so very chuffed with sotw. I've not come accross any negivitity about it. So it must depend very much on how the teacher presents it.
