Aisles of random tat that appear in shops at Christmas....

AIBU to be a bit sad about it? BHS usually excel in it, I noticed today Asda had an aisle of it.

It's all so, well, crap. Sad

I wouldn't buy any of it for anyone-it looks like you went down the random Christmas tat aisle and bought the first thing you saw. Who buys it? Confused

Sorry about mentioning the C word-but it's out there. Sad

I go to BHS when they reduce everything and buy what i want for me

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 04/11/2013 21:01

and to me the sweet stuff or funny stuff is just to be that novelty present

Bogeyface · 04/11/2013 21:01

Primark are currently doing Xmas jumpers that are reasonably priced.

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2013 21:04

Ooh not really BHS Marmite Bogey. Blush

No its great, but I prefer the pop art which only seems to be available in TKMaxx at the moment, probably because it was so monstrously over priced in the first place!

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2013 21:11

I got Ds2 a singing ghost today in the Halloween sale at Sainsburys. It was reduced from £7 to £2.10. How annoying if you had bought one last week.

It sings 'I'm scary and i know it'. Hmm

I was surprised at the toiletry sets being unpopular, but they really are judging by the way we get so many unwanted ones donated.

Lavender does seem to be the worst offender though, but there were lots of those ones from Boots made from beeswax (not Burt's Bees, that other one they did) and the Sanctuary ones.

And the ones made to look like sweets and lollipops in candy colours with radioactive looking bottles of goop in them as well.

And for men we seem to get a lot of combo sets (wallet and key ring, pen and cheque book holder) or novelty nonsense like fake remote controls for their girlfriends or 'ring for beer' bells.

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2013 21:20

Aah yes or ring for worse judging by the ones I saw today Sarah. Blush

DD got one of those last year, she used one lot, got a massive itchy burning rash and the rest went in the bin. I did tell her father what happened but I would bet you a weeks wages that he will get her something similar this year in her stocking Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2013 21:36

WTF is this when it's at home?

I hate sponge, it gives my fingernails the creeps.

Not sure how someone would use that one Sparkling, if it has to stay on the stick.

Bogeyface · 04/11/2013 21:48

Wet wood AND sponge.......that looks like a lolly so my toddler dd would try to eat it?

ALL of my "sets my teeth on edge" triggers at the same time!

I just shuddered at the thought of it!

Bogeyface · 04/11/2013 21:48

I cant eat REAL lollies because of the stick ffs.........

I always get loads of toiletry sets. Most of them are creams. Hand cream. Body cream. Nail cream. Face cream. How many creams do you need? Confused I don't use any of them. I don't know when or how you're supposed to use them. Will vvvvv occasionally use a bit of hand cream if I've been using a harsh cleaner and my hands feel a bit dry.

We use the bath stuff and shower gel, but not always at the rate it's given to us. I've usually got a couple of boxes in the cupboard unused. And then DP will go and buy a load of shower gel, or I'll think "fuck it" and buy a couple of shower gels, because sometimes it's nice to be able to pick a smell you actually like rather than "insipid rose" or "overly synthetic orange" I don't mind too much, it does save money. But I quite like buying things like shower gel because I like sniffing them all and choosing my favourite Blush

Sparklingbrook · 04/11/2013 21:52

I can't imagine the meeting at M&S where they all decided the horrid lolly thing was a fab Christmas gift Confused

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 04/11/2013 21:53

Oh god that sponge! Thats awful!!

ElephantsEye · 04/11/2013 22:26

Sparkling are you on commission? Grin

And who on earth designs all that stuff? Can you imagine the meetings, and the big reveal, and the nodding of approval, and the suggestions for improvement, and ...

Sparklingbrook · 05/11/2013 07:01

On commission for which line of tat Elephants?

Chelvis · 05/11/2013 07:41

yy BearstieSpots with the creams. Does anyone really use them? I would leave a snail trail behind me if I was that greased up.

What does everyone do with the toiletry sets they don't need? I gave some to the charity shop (still boxed, unopened) a few years ago, but my sister was horrified by that and said charities couldn't sell anything like that? I don't want to bin them, but I don't need 6 bottles of dove body moisturiser when I only use one a year!

Kerosene · 05/11/2013 08:12

I wish I knew what to do with the toiletry sets. Every year, my MiL has bought me a Lush bath bomb set. We don't have a bath. Haven't had one for some years now. She helped us rip it out.

On the what to do front - if you've friends with birthdays in January, don't immediately regift to them. A friend of mine has her birthday in the first week of January, and the amount of regifted tat she gets is a bit depressing.

Strumpetron · 05/11/2013 08:19

I love tat

Strumpetron · 05/11/2013 08:19

And lush is lovely, and not cheap.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 05/11/2013 08:33

Why don't grown ups all agree not to buy each other presents? If I want something I'll buy it myself, if I don't want something, I don't want you to buy it for me. It's bollocks, you either have to tell people what you want or get some crap you don't want.

Bogeyface · 05/11/2013 09:28

NoArmani

How utterly joyless! I really hate this attitude that Xmas is for kids. What kind of miserable Xmas morning would my parents have if no one bought them a gift?

mrsjay · 05/11/2013 09:33

I like getting presents especially tatt bit of a grinchy thing going onthere noarmani
