AIBU?

Animals vs humans

AIBU to think if faced with choosing a pet over a human (even if a stranger), you should choose the human?

The idea was brought up in another thread and put in life or death situation. Building on fire contains your pet and a stranger. You could only save one, who would it be?

I had a dog, Ralph, I cried my heart out when he died 3 years ago. The only dog I wasn't scared of! But I can't imagine leaving a person to die instead, no matter how my heart would break.

I am yet to find a person in rl that would leave their pet...

So those of you who say you'd save your dog. You would really let someone s dad/mum/son/daughter die? How would you feel if someone chose their dog over your child? Ridiculous question, of course you'd save the person.

I owe nothing to them. I looked after my dog from being an hour old after his mum didn't have enough milk. He is my responsibility. I value his life just like I would a humans, I'd save a friend over a stranger so my dog would come before a stranger.

I understand people feel differently, some of the comments on here are not on though. Trying to suggest people are crazy or idiotic. Hmm

You look after your own family. The dog is my responsibility.
No one has yet explained why you should prefer humans. The 'you just should' argument isn't very persuasive.

Sorry, as much as I love the human race - I love my dog more. I'd rescue him over any human, any age, any time.

Half these people have rescued their arsonist over their loyal family pet Hmm

I knew it would go this way and end up with people implying there was something wrong with people who choose their animals.
But why? Why do you guys feel the need to do this?

Maybe I would be more helpful to clarify the scenario a little to avoid the 'why would the stranger be my house?' stuff?

Maybe a plumber or something, there by request but a stranger to you none the less.

Maybe it, not maybe I !!

It was never stated or implied that the stranger was an arsonist or burglar. It was a general building that for some unknown reason your pet and one stranger haven't managed to get out of by themselves. One will die, one will live. Different ends of the building so you can't help both.

To those that would choose pets, which pets would make the cut? Just dogs? What about cats/hamsters/house rabbits etc?

Well if he was that crap a plumber I guess he would burn down his own house before he burnt down someone else's

Well what buildings would you take the dog to and why would I be the other end to my dog if I had one I'd be with the dog or would be on a lead with me

There you go. Exactly as predicted. Do you just want to convince yourself that you are better than someone else?

giles I never said the plumber caused the fire!!

Electrical fault somewhere maybe?

YOU WOULD SAVE THE LIFE OF A DOG OVER A HUMAN!

Let's just ponder that for a second. Everyone on here who would allow a person to die to try and save an animal when that animal stands a much better change of surviving and escaping anyway.

I don't see how anybody, under any circumstances could ever rationalise that.

Ever.

(p.s. and I didn't know you had bi-polar, how could I have?)

Which is exactly why you don't come out with bullshit comments like you did. You have no idea who has mental health problems, a very high percentage of women actually so do think before you make offensive comments.

No I don't need to convince myself that I am better than anybody else as that's largely irrelevant to this thread and life generally.

However, if two people were in circumstances where they both had the option of saving a pet or a human, one chose the human and the animal died, one chose the animal and the human died,

I know who I and most of society would think was the better person.

I can't believe people are saying this actually.

Damnbamboo
I think that the people who need help are the ones who insist that they are right and insult others.
Why oh why can't you let it go?

Oh please, people can't make comments because someone might have something or might have experience something...
