To think DH has gone too far (lighthearted)

...by coaching our Dd (just turned 4) to occasionally ask for things by saying "I wants it my preciousss"?

I like to think I am reasonably advanced in the fantasy/SF geek stakes - I have both read LOTR and seen the films many times, I can quote the original Star Wars pretty much verbatim, I own a lot of Asimov etc. etc. However, having a live incarnation of Gollum in the house is a bridge too far, and the fact she just did it in pink and green fairy pyjamas makes it all the worse.

AIBU, and what similar japes have MNers or their OHs perpetrated?

PS - she does understand it's a joke and not the right way to ask for things!

I find the image of a little girl Gollum hilarious I'm afraid so yabu

Morgause · 31/10/2013 19:22

Long before the films (DS1 is in his thirties) DH used to ask,

"What'ssss it got in itssss pocketssss?"

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 31/10/2013 19:24

As teenagers me and my sister used to fight over a piece of plastic crap from a cracker that was known in my family as the preciousssss and had to be confiscated and kept in our mothers hamdbag. I'm not entirely sure what it was supposed to be...

InSpagNito · 31/10/2013 19:25

Sorry, YABU, that's brilliant! Return the favour by coaching her to do Yoda-speak to DH Grin

MammaTJ · 31/10/2013 19:30

Too funny to be cross about. Film it, post it on YouTube and post the link on here! Grin

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 31/10/2013 19:31

InSpagNito I like the idea of revenge! Perhaps I should get her to instruct "Make it so, Daddy"?

InSpagNito · 31/10/2013 19:40

Or teach her to wait until DH says something, shake her head pityingly and say "highly illogical Captain"

MadameDefarge · 31/10/2013 19:42

ds aged 3 used to wander around humming the emperor's march from star wars in a particularly high and squeaky voice.

It was all menace, I tell ya!

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 31/10/2013 19:46

DP has been trying to teach DD to point and sing 'you fell over, you fell over' in a football chant style.

Brilliant at tumble totsConfusedBlushAngry

chutneypig · 31/10/2013 19:46

Definitely too funny to be cross about. I'm smiling just thinking about it.

DS very firmly told me earlier this year - that's not a buzzard, it's Sauron's spy. And insisted his sister play I Spy with Sauron's eye.

YouTheCat · 31/10/2013 19:48

When my dd was little if she hurt herself she'd say 'It's only a flesh wound'. Grin

How about teaching her to say 'Live long and prosper'?

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly · 31/10/2013 19:51

When DD was 4 I taught her to say "Go on my son" and "That was clearly offside ref" during ANY sporting event on TV a la Mrs Doyle in Father Ted.

I also taught my niece last year to say "Mum/Aunty OnThe has a tiiiiiny bottom"

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/10/2013 19:58

My 14 yo DS was subjected to "Trouble With Tribbles" and "Spock's Brain" when he was 5 days old.

And yes. he does the Vulcan V sign "Live Long and Prosper"

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 31/10/2013 19:58

chutneypig Grin how old is your DS?

TBH am not cross, more eye-rolling really, although I thought I had a pretty high threshold for this stuff!

Only BBT fans will get this but my 6yo knocks on the door like this:

"daddy"

"daddy"

"daddy"

Athrawes · 31/10/2013 20:01

DS aged just 3 totally into the Lego Star Wars movies. If asked to do something he will reply "whatever goldie pants" or "keep your metal pants on, I'll fix it". It's cute and not coached!!

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 20:01

And when my DSDs were about 8 we showed them Fawlty Towers.

DSD went into school and apparently did the Hitler walk Blush

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 31/10/2013 20:07

fuzzpig I have found myself humming "soft kitty* to baby DS from time to time. ..

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 20:39

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 31/10/2013 20:43

Fuzzipig that's brilliant!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/10/2013 20:44

WRT Big Bang Theory-
my DS quotes at me all the flipping while

"I'm not un happy"

Are you ashamed of your mother ? "Yes but that's not the issue right now"

"What about me says I'm the kind of person who wants to XYZ"

"In which parallel universe would I ..."

Little toad Wink

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 20:49

Oh god you've reminded me 70.

DH has this immense disgust at the wearing of socks with sandals. Somehow (Hmm) DD has picked up on this. Earlier this year he and DD were walking locally and there was somebody with the dreaded sock sandal combo.

Apparently DD said REALLY loudly "oh no daddy, somebody wearing socks with sandals, I'll have to give a sigh of haughty derision like Sheldon! "
