to want to report this taxi driver?

I booked a taxi from a well known taxi firm and from the second I stepped foot in his cab I felt uneasy.

He proceeded to tell me that he dropped a woman off last night, who is an alcoholic. He said that she had previously reported his colleague for groping her and he said that he made well sure to keep away from her because he didn't want reporting either.

Fair enough, I suppose...

But then he went on to tell me about how he picks up young girls "dressed up like strippers" and how he makes sure he is around at the end of the night to pick them up because by then "their tits are out and their skirts are even shorter and they're fucked" and that he likes watching them stumble out of his car.

All the time he was telling me this he pretty much maintained eye contact with me with his rear view mirror and it made me feel really quite uneasy. I don't know if I am being overly sensitive - I was attacked aged 16 by a cab driver - but I am a youngish (25) female that got in his cab on my own. AIBU to want to report him for... well I don't know really.

I suppose first, AIBU to find him distasteful at the very least?

I would report him for making you feel uncomfortable and inappropriate conversation topics to a lone female passenger. The taxi company needs to know if they have dodgy people driving under their name and number. Ask for his name or reg too so next time you book with them you don't end up with him again (if he is still driving for them). I've reported drivers to companies before for dangerous driving and for speeding and they seemed to take it seriously.

fanjofarrow · 31/10/2013 17:27

Ewwww. He sounds like an utter horror. I'd report the creepy bastard.

Housesellerihope · 31/10/2013 17:31

Please report him for the sake of other women out there. He sounds like a slimeball at the very least.

SoleSorceress · 31/10/2013 17:34

I would have felt the same way and I have also had attempted rape by a taxi driver.

I would follow Kathryns advice.

Timeforabiscuit · 31/10/2013 17:40

Definitely report - slimy at best, predatory at worst but definitely unprofessional.

TwllBach · 31/10/2013 17:43

DP is home now and is livid - he said the taxi driver wouldn't have said those things if a man had been in the car with me/on his own and that he was doing it to intimidate me, more than likely.

I will give them a call tomorrow and hope it is one of the women that answer the phone. I was only getting a taxi to pick my car up from the MOT garage so it's not like I have to worry about seeing him again...

I'm a bit angry with myself as well, actually. I had a clear moment of "I'm sitting here smiling as hard as I can at these horrible tales because I am a bit frightened" but I feel like I should have said something more like "excuse me I'm not comfortable talking about this."

ring the council and suggest they might not want to give this man a taxi licence

ring 101 for advice.

KathrynKampbell · 31/10/2013 17:55

I think your DH is right about him doing it because you were alone and female. Don't be angry at yourself. I felt the same way about the dangerous driving thinking why didn't I just get out the car (I was pregnant at the time so felt so guilty for not doing that) but at the time I was more frightened of his reaction. It's hard when you are alone in a car with a taxi driver who is scaring you.

WilsonFrickett · 31/10/2013 17:57

He was definitely trying to intimidate you and as DP said, there is no way on this earth he would have pulled that chat with a man in the car. I would report him.

Please don't beat yourself up for having the 'right' answer to hand. If it was easy to answer shit like this back, he wouldn't be saying it.

complexnumber · 31/10/2013 18:02

but definitely unprofessional

Not sure that driving a taxi is a profession.

(he still sounds yucky and I bet you were glad to get out of there)

AutumnStar · 31/10/2013 18:04

Sounds like a horrible bastard. Report him, OP. Hope you're okay. Have a Wine to calm you down.

AutumnStar · 31/10/2013 18:05

Meant to add....don't just do it for yourself - it sounds like the wrong sort of person to be picking up young, drunk women and shouldn't be given the opportunity to do it again.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 31/10/2013 18:10

complex - odd comment. It doesn't matter what somebody does for a living, they should still be expected to act professionally in a work context.

Undoubtedly report - it will help you feel better and more in control of the situation.

FacebookWanker · 31/10/2013 18:11

I would report him. I've felt intimidated before and was too frightened to ask if he could let me out. He was going on about "fucking foreigners", because someone 'foreign' was in the wrong lane, in quite a vicious tone...I'm not white so not sure what reaction he was hoping for from me...

complexnumber · 31/10/2013 18:20

You are probably correct Grandstanding. And I should not get all pedantic over a serious thread.

Apologies to OP

Report him

FudgyFanjo · 31/10/2013 19:05

As well as ringing the cab firm, who may or may not take appropriate action, please also report him to your local authority so that they can review his taxi licence.

I hate to think of this creep picking up other vulnerable young people.

gingerbreadshoes · 31/10/2013 19:37

complexnumber driving a private hire car may not be a profession but driving a Hackney Carriage certainly is Smile

MrsBramleyApple · 31/10/2013 19:48

I had a taxi driver who didn't know where he was going last year. Kept driving round and round. I was so cross. I complained about him when I eventually arrived at ds2's house and got his number so I made sure I didn't get him again!

Dawndonnaagain · 31/10/2013 19:50

I used to be a councillor on the licensing committee, had I a report of this in my hand, I would not have licensed the driver. Report him, both to his firm and to the council. If you don't report him to the licensing department, he may well end up working for another firm.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 31/10/2013 21:12

Agree with nearly everybody here report the slime ball. Nuffield said?

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 31/10/2013 21:15

Sorry that should have been nuff said! Bastard iPad!

treesntrees · 31/10/2013 22:59

I once stopped the taxi I was in and got out because the driver was being racist. I told him why and reported him to his firm. If I had known then what I know now I would have reported him to the council.
We make several complaints a year now to the council because hackney drivers, usually on a rank refuse to carry my son in his power chair. We never get any feed back so don't know if it does any good.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 31/10/2013 23:01

Yep complain. He is a twat. Perhaps consider asking the police to take a note too.
