AIBU to be sad about having to put my 3 month old DD in her own room already?

She outgrew her moses basket and our room isn't big enough for her cotbed so it is in the room next door.

She's been sleeping in her carry cot on the floor Hmm ever since and it just seems wrong to me so tonight I put her in her cotbed in the other room.

It feels too soon for her to be out of our room because she'll never be back in it.

AIBU or is this normal first baby growing up sadness?

I miss her snuffly noises already Blush

Oh,.ok. I always thought it was a different word for the same thing Confused At least, friends who have used a carry cot, is what I'd call a Moses basket.

ananikifo · 28/10/2013 23:18

We've ended up using our carrycot for ds's naps downstairs. At first he was on the floor but, like you, DH didn't like that so he bought a stand for it. It's a Moses basket stand that also fits carrycots. Both carrycot and stand are by mamas and papas. This is probably the same price as a cheap travel cot though so I'm not sure it's the best option for you.

BerstieSpotts · 28/10/2013 23:18

Could you wheel the pram base into the room to sit the carrycot on if it feels too low on the floor?

BerstieSpotts · 28/10/2013 23:18

Ooh or a stand would be a good idea.

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 23:20

Why have I never even thought about trying it on my moses basket stand!! Blush

Both my kids were in their own rooms by 8 weeks old and I had one of the sensor pad monitors and felt perfectly happy with that. Just to put another idea forward!

ananikifo · 28/10/2013 23:21

Just saw your last message. Ours is a sola carrycot. To make it suitable for overnight sleeping we bought a new mattress (£30) and then DH bought the stand which was another £30.

Monty27 · 28/10/2013 23:21

Congratulations on the baby. Advice is they stay in your room (no co-sleep) until they are six months. :)

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 23:29

She's snug asleep on the floor in her carrycot so I shall try the stand tomorrow and maybe bribe my fiancé to get a cheap cot with me.

Thanks everyone! Thanks

Had an ikea narrow cot in bedroom for long time ...
Cot beds ...well you will find that when your two or three or six year old is sick and you need to stay with them in bed for a bit or you want to read to them in bed the size of bed is useless..,a normal size three foot bed can fit an adult and small child when needed .

PerpendicularVincentPrice · 28/10/2013 23:55

I think you're doing the right thing bringing her travelcot back into your room daisy. When DS grew out of his Moses basket we bought him a crib, which is smaller than a cot and narrow enough to fit between our bed and the wall. We'll get another few months use out of it. The crib, mattress, bedding etc cost just over £100 from Mothercare.

maddening · 29/10/2013 00:31

Or you can have a temp bed in your dc's room?

fatlazymummy · 29/10/2013 01:31

One of my babies slept in a carry cot, then in a travel cot. The only risk of putting the carry cot on the floor is if you have underfloor heating. If not it should be fine.

KatyN · 29/10/2013 06:05

I slept in my ds's room on a mattress on the. Floor because he didn't fit in ours. Meant I got to spend longer listening to him wake up to fart!

Mumof3xx · 29/10/2013 06:09

Our dd went in her own room at 3 months for the same reason op, we had the angel care monitor and she has been fine she is now nearly 7 months
And you say it's sad she will never be back in your room but when she's 4 and having nightmares about witches or lions she will likely be back!

FadBook · 29/10/2013 06:27

Can you move furniture OUT of your room (store in nursery) to make room for cotter?

Removing a wardrobe would most likely make more room.

It's only temporarily and would save costs by not buying a smaller cot.

Mummyoftheyear · 29/10/2013 06:40

I found it a difficult transition (for me) at 6 months. I should think it'd be even harder / just as hard later.

AmandinePoulain · 29/10/2013 06:49

Check with mamas and papas about using a sola carrycot overnight - I know that my oyster one wasn't suitable. It's to do with ventilation - if your baby rolls and ends up face first in the side the sides aren't ventilated enough. Sorry to add that to your already difficult situation!

Retroformica · 29/10/2013 07:11

Small travel cot or sleep in babies room

NoIHaventHadTheBabyYet · 29/10/2013 07:44

Not all carrycots that come with prams are suitable for use overnight.
We have this space saving cot, the mattress was not included but was inexpensive.

I've got a small Ikea cot you can have if you're in Hampshire by any chance? Ds outgrew it pretty quickly, but it was ideal.

SharpLily · 29/10/2013 08:09

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm interested in what I'm reading about the baby learning from adult breathing patterns. My husband has very heavy breathing at night - I mean it's like sleeping next to a hairdryer. I hardly sleep at all and apparently I can never be heard breathing at night, awake or asleep - if my husband wakes he often touches me to make sure I'm still alive! I'm worried that if the baby learns anything from my breathing patterns at night it will be not to sleep/breathe at all. Does anyone know if it works this way?

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 29/10/2013 09:15

Sharp lily its not just your breathing pattern she will copy. Just the Adults who are in the room so most likely she will copy your dhs breathing as it is so loud.

YoureBeingAnAnyFuckerFan · 29/10/2013 09:19

supermariosmum the advice to sleep in room with baby is not so much that you can hear when they stop breathing but actually so they can regulate their breathing by hearing yours.

valiumredhead · 29/10/2013 09:29

Carry cot on the floor is fine don't stress!
