AIBU to be sad about having to put my 3 month old DD in her own room already?

She outgrew her moses basket and our room isn't big enough for her cotbed so it is in the room next door.

She's been sleeping in her carry cot on the floor Hmm ever since and it just seems wrong to me so tonight I put her in her cotbed in the other room.

It feels too soon for her to be out of our room because she'll never be back in it.

AIBU or is this normal first baby growing up sadness?

I miss her snuffly noises already Blush

Should have refreshed before posting, lots of x posts.

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 22:52

Ahh okay thank you for explaining, I thought the breathing regulating was if you co-slept :)

She's back on the floor for tonight Grin in carry cot obv!

I'll have a look for a cot/travel cot bargain.

I would being her back in with you even if it means buying a cheap small cot or moving your bed against the wall.

RooRooTaToot · 28/10/2013 22:53

Alternatively, could you set up a bed for you in her room?

Due to the number of times that DS woke up in the night, I slept with him in his room until he started sleeping through at 13 months.

pyjamaramadrama · 28/10/2013 22:53

Sorry cross posted!

rosieposey · 28/10/2013 22:54

There is a small travel cot made by graco called petite bassinet - its not too expensive and you can buy a proper mattress to put in it to make it more suitable for long term sleeping. I agree with other posters about keeping her in with you a little while longer.

curlew · 28/10/2013 22:56

What's wrong with her being in a carry cot on the floor? For what it's worth, mine never had cots at all- the went from Moses basket to futon.

DaleyBump · 28/10/2013 22:58

Asda are doing a travel cot with a mattress for £25 right now. Hang on and I'll have a look.

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 22:59

I just feel like she's pretty much on the floor and feel wrong about it, but it's definitely seeming safer SIDS-wise.

Here you go :)

Caitlin17 · 28/10/2013 23:00

When I had son in 1990 I seem to recall putting babies on their front had just finally been discredited after having been the right way to do it; no one said anything about keeping baby in same room, if anything it was the other way round ; and co-sleeping was bad, so yes guidelines change.

curlew · 28/10/2013 23:01

No problem with being on the floor- babies all over the world ( including mine here in Kent!) sleep on the floor.

Jojay · 28/10/2013 23:01

I can't see anything wrong with the carry cot either. Am I missing something? In a travel cot they're only a couple of inches off the ground too.

curlew · 28/10/2013 23:02

"so yes guidelines change."

Yes, guidelines change- when we get more information. Maybe better to say "guidelines are updated"

Patilla · 28/10/2013 23:05

Does the use of a travel cot outweigh the SIDS risks of being in another room? I know that travel
Cots aren't intended for long term use but can't remember why sorry.

hettienne · 28/10/2013 23:05

Yep, lots of research has been done since 1990, guidelines have been updated and as a result about 900 extra babies survive every year now.

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 23:05

Ahh thank you daleybump :)

Maybe I'm over thinking the carrycot then!

My eldest daughter was in her own room from about the same age for the same reasons. Her cot wouldn't fit in our room. After speaking to the HV - she suggested swooping the baby monitor around so she could hear our breathing through the monitor, as opposed to us hearing her. The house was so totey that not hearing her cry or wake wasn't going to be a problem.

RandomMess · 28/10/2013 23:07

Carry cot is fine they really don't care Grin

PeazlyPops · 28/10/2013 23:08

When DS grew out of his Moses basket, he went into a crib in our room. It's smaller than a cot.

NotYoMomma · 28/10/2013 23:09

it depends on the carry cot, some are ok for overnight sleeping due to ventilation and some are not recommended

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 28/10/2013 23:11

What's the difference between a carry cot and Moses basket? Confused

I'm sure a carry cot on the floor is fine though :)

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 23:12

It's one that goes on a Sola if that means anything?

I think I'm gonna have to save a little and get a cot if my carry cot isn't meant for lots of overnight sleeps.

Stupid rubbish maternity pay!!

daisywaisydoo · 28/10/2013 23:14

imnotwhoyouthinkiam My moses basket was really flimsy and the carry cot is slightly wider and lots sturdier :)
