Do itv not realise that the clocks went back and it's only 8:30?! FFS Lady Gaga, put on some clothes!

Yes I agree - contrived indeed.

Strumpetron · 28/10/2013 18:55

I for one think she's brilliant.

She's a strong female, does what she wants, wears what she wants, dances how she wants. She doesn't try to be sexy, that much is obvious.

And to be honest women criticising her for and saying how she dresses isn't 'respectful for women'. Sorry what, are we in the 1950's? That's exactly the sort of attitude that oppresses women and makes us think showing our bodies is wrong and if we do it's for men's sexual gratification only Hmm

AnnieLobeseder · 28/10/2013 23:03

I'm quite happy to believe she's a feminist. Lady Gaga bases her popularity/image on many things, but being a sexy has never really been one of them. I don't like her music much, but I respect the way she markets herself.

beaglesaresweet · 28/10/2013 23:25

she's very creative musically, brave, independent, and she is a feminist (though she DOES talk too much between songs Wink). She does what she wants on the stage, which is exactly what male rockers do, the sexiness is never dumb but something she wants to voice/express. And although it's mainly pop, she's a rock chic at heart. And a tomboy.

Outfit was ok, but there was a camel toe (not great Grin), and yes, she did sing 'penis' - it's liberated. As to the few sexy body moves - there is a difference between this (i.e. woman portraying how she is enjoying sex) and the horrid cabaret style girls who fawn around a male singer and present their arses to him

beaglesaresweet · 28/10/2013 23:26

or, not 'of'

ILikeTrains · 29/10/2013 06:20

I found it quite refreshing to have a female artist showing a realistic body shape. She's not super skinny, nor was she displaying unnaturally large anti gravity boobs, she wasn't plastered in make up with huge voluminous hair all created with fake hair extensions. She was very natural looking (once the wig came off).

Sallystyle · 29/10/2013 06:51

I think she is amazing!

Have you heard her just sing with a piano? she is amazingly talented.

Akifden · 29/10/2013 10:11

Never mind Xfactor what about the O2 advert on channel 4 at 9.45am? I don't care what her lyrics are I don't want my children seeing an almost naked woman gyrating and singing "do what you want with my body". They didn't hear the other lyrics to get the context. I thought watching Everybody loves Raymond was safe!! Halloween Angry

Akifden · 29/10/2013 10:14

And for what it worth I do enjoy her music but there's a suitable time and place FFS and I don't get all this to be a feminist you should strip of show your naked body and that you don't care. What a load of shit that is.....sounds like a mans reason.

lottieandmia · 29/10/2013 10:24

There have been loads of complaints to Ofcom apparently.

lottieandmia · 29/10/2013 10:26

She's no feminist - have any of you seen the video for 'Telephone'?

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 29/10/2013 10:42

I personally don't like seeing all these semi naked woman prancing about on tv and x-factor is one of the worst for showing it. Women don't need to take their clothes off to be respected. For me it is just wrong and gives out a bad impression.

I'm with you OP, I wish they would put on some clothes too!

Akifden · 29/10/2013 11:15

I put my complaint in this morning. I want to bring my daughter up with feminist ideals, I don't think that means I should allow subconscious imagery to tell her the only way is to use your body to send a message, surely that's counter productive?

By sending a message to society like this that can be misinterpreted the end result is women are just visual objects and playthings regardless of how clever the artist thinks they're being with their message. There's no point splitting hairs over it. Miley Virus and GAGA are the same.

usuallyright · 29/10/2013 11:23

I'm laughing at the notion that anyone would want to go to the bother of complaining about Lady Gaga. Whether she's a feminist or not depends on which version of feminism you subscribe to. My version is not so restrictive. Gaga is a performance artist. She often covers up, doesn't always wear very little on stage. I am full of mirth at the idea that she's comparable with Miley or Rhianna. Nope, she isn't.
I have no patience for women who have very rigid ideas about what is and isn't feminism. Please don't tell me what to think. Please don't tell me what I should be enraged about.

Akifden · 29/10/2013 11:25

At at the end of the day the reason for the nakedness and the type of video/lyrics is because it sells. She had a lifestyle to maintain don't fool yourself into thinking its a public service video. Fools, people who think she's helping any cause. She's a disgrace to females everywhere.

Akifden · 29/10/2013 11:29

I don't want her appearing at 9.30am unexpectedly. I avoid MTV and other such channels with my children around because I don't want them to see that. You know we don't even normally watch TV, so perhaps its more of a shock to me to see an advert like that than for someone who has been desensitised and conditioned.

Yes it's up to her but I don't want it in my face thank you. You have no patience with women who have rigid views about feminism, I have no patience for people who don't care about longterm societal implications.

Akifden · 29/10/2013 11:31

.....and it isn't feminism it's an excuse to make money.

Strumpetron · 29/10/2013 13:01

Wow.

Words fail me.

cls77 · 29/10/2013 13:21

I think shes a very talented artist, that needs to be careful that she isnt too extreme in the non clothes wearing/childbirth style poses. With that in mind though, I didnt think the performance on X Factor was an issue? She had the equivalent of a bikini on (or aerobics outfit!) and even included bridget style pants! Years ago people did wear next to nothing (Madonna and the pointed bra for one!) but thats all forgotten in order to put down the next genuinely talented artists. As long as she isnt hurting anyone then I dont see the problem, Rihanna was much worse last year!

Akifden · 29/10/2013 13:39

I think if its on X Factor it should kind of be expected which is why i don't watch it. I complained about the new O2 advert that uses her video in it.

Akifden · 29/10/2013 14:13

Happydaze77 it says a lot when the only tv I feel comfortable watching around my children anymore is pre recorded or on demand and nothing featuring a music video!

I know people pull the Madona comparison and everything but that wouldn't have been all around you all the time....I don't recall ever seeing her on tv as a child and I don't think my parents were particularly careful.

happydaze77 · 29/10/2013 14:19

It's the argument that being (near) naked and proud is an expression of feminism that makes me a bit Confused Halloween Hmm

OP posts:
Akifden · 29/10/2013 14:31

Yes, it's the total obliviousness to the fact that like or not you these "artists" set themselves up to be objectified and funnier yet put themselves in the spot light and complain when the media comment. we all know Gaga did what she did because she doesn't care and all publicity is good and financially siund to her no matter the implications.

I wouldn't want to say more because people would say it's not her problem what men think etc....but actually it is the imagery all around is conditions young minds both female and male.

The X factor nonsense last night is really just the tip of the iceberg. Some shop windows would be allowed on TV and yet there it is Haloween Sad

It's pathetic that for some women to feel empowered future generations have to be shown a warped reality. Perhaps one day they will grow up and realise the world does not exist purely for their own entertainment and selfish ends. Some of the comments opposing your OP are people yet to have children. So perhaps they only see things from their own perspective.
