AIBU to secretly hope that the enormous tree

at the bottom of our garden blows over tonight. Obviously only if it can fall and do no damage to either our house or our neighbours and only if no person or animal is hurt. It blocks out most of our sunlight, makes it hard to grow lots of plants and the bottom of the garden is always dank and murky. but it has a tree preservation order on it so we can't do anything. Providing it can meet my conditions of no damage and no injury, AIBU to hope that it will blow over and can be replaced with a nice sapling or three?

YANBU we have the same issue not being able to plant much at the bottom of the garden.

We also have a dead tree in next door's garden which blows bark everywhere. I'm hoping it will blow over tonight. Again, as long as it doesn't damage anything.

fanjofarrow · 27/10/2013 16:25

This made me giggle! As long as there's no human or animal carnage involved, seems reasonable enough. Grin

Marrow · 27/10/2013 16:35

Totally - hope your trees blow over too! Grin

I've got six lleylandii I'm hoping snap tonight. Unlikely though, we're north east and they're chuffing indestructible:o

sausageandorangepickle · 27/10/2013 16:43

same here, but trees with a preservation order across the road in front of us - they would have to fall away or would crash into our bedroom!!!

but they are dark and creaky and block the light and view

queenofthemountains · 27/10/2013 16:50

I am praying next doors Holly tree is blown down, it blocks all our evening sunlight, I hate it.

Thatisall · 27/10/2013 16:52

I hope none of the trees near is come down as I'm pretty sure they would land on our house. Sod's law Wink

Wormshuffler · 27/10/2013 16:53

I'm hoping the huge tree in my garden blows over! preferably landing on my flat roof extension that I'm itching to extend more and put roof lights in. Also the tree would cost over a grand to have chopped down.

thecatneuterer · 27/10/2013 16:54

Yep. I've been hoping for the same thing all day. Next door's huge great conifer (but annoyingly not lleylandii as you can legally get something done about those) that takes all the light from my garden. I wouldn't even care if their shed was collateral damage ...

Marrow · 27/10/2013 17:00

Wormshuffler-can relate to that. I wouldn't be too upset if it landed on our conservatory either!

thecatneuterer tell me more?!

(Awesome name, I salute you, though my three mogs don't)

AndHarry · 27/10/2013 19:28

I'm hoping for a tree to land on my car. I might even take the carseats and buggy out to give it a clear shot :o

eggsandwich · 27/10/2013 19:29

Marrow, you don't back onto my garden do you as I have a couple of trees in my garden with TPO on then along with numerous other tree's, one in particular is a bit to close for comfort to our property.

TallyGrenshall · 27/10/2013 19:30

I was eyeing my neighbours tree at the bottom of my garden earlier, trying to guess if it would reach the house if it fell.

DS' bedroom is at the back so I don't want that it to go that far but if it could smash the tiny utility room, that would be fine and I could have a new, more usable one instead (and a new patio/garden as well)

Silver linings and all that

springylippy · 27/10/2013 19:41

YANBU. I also have a dead tree that I'm hoping will lay down to rest tonight - it would cost me too much to get it cut down. If we're being prescriptive here, I hope it lands neatly on next door's garden.

I'm not being bad: new owners in the process of clearing the garden as old owner let it go for decades = jungle/forest. One extra dead tree won't make a difference to the non-stop chainsaw action going on next door for weeks. Particularly as said dead tree was one of a clump that started next door and ended up just on my side.

Here's to only the right trees meeting their end tonight, landing in the perfect place, with no loss to life or limb. And so say all of us Wine

UsedToBeNDP · 27/10/2013 19:44

I have 2 giants with TPO's in my front garden too. Only problem is that whichever way they fall, they will do damage. Grrr.

Good luck for yours though!

EBearhug · 27/10/2013 19:44

Not at all. I am prepared to sacrifice the shed at the bottom of the garden and everything in it for the very same reason.

BigArea · 27/10/2013 19:58

I thought you might be my DCousin but she hasn't got a conservatory - funnily enough I was thinking the same about her problem trees earlier on!

NaturalBloodsuckerYeahRight · 27/10/2013 20:02

I'm paying £550 for the removal of two whoppers at the end of the month- this could save a fortune/cost a fortune depending which way they fall!

NaturalBloodsuckerYeahRight · 27/10/2013 20:03

Also thinking of putting the old banger in prime spot just in case.

Wolfcub · 27/10/2013 20:07

yanbu we are in the same position and the council is arguing about who is responsible for the tree. If it could fall in the field, missing the cows, and the squirrels could jump to safety I would have a little party

AndHarry · 27/10/2013 20:08

I'll drink to that springylippy!

5madthings · 27/10/2013 20:12

Yanbu we have the xamey, massive tree at the end of our front garden, would be quite happy if it fell down providing there was no damage.

mineofuselessinformation · 27/10/2013 20:19

I'm rather hoping the neighbours' fence (which is miraculously upright despite being rotten with bits falling off it) will get blown over so they are forced to put up a decent one.....

AndHarry · 28/10/2013 06:59

Well, I got up half an hour ago and there was no sign of the storm. Even our bins were still standing. It's just started howling with wind now - here we go! Hope everyone else had an ok night and trees fell nicely!
