AIBU to be annoyed by the noise

....generated by my neighbours' teens having a party, while parents are away for the weekend.

They only left at 5pm, and the racket was in full swing by 7pm.
Now that's organisation for you!
I really am not a party pooper, but it's LOUD
(and the houses are fair distance apart)

So, do you know the parents well enough to text them and let them know their children are having a small riot?

Misfitless · 25/10/2013 21:09

No!

southeastastra · 25/10/2013 21:10

lol it's only nine o'clock you old fud

SeaSickSal · 25/10/2013 21:11

It's only one night...

ConsideringTheFuture · 25/10/2013 21:11

If it's genuinely loud I'd go over and ask nicely if they can turn it down.

If you get any attitude tell them to quiet the fuck down fucking NOW or the next visit they get will be the police.

Fakebook · 25/10/2013 21:14

At least it's the weekend. My student neighbours have midweek parties that start at 12am. I'm letting them have their fun because once my baby is born, I'll be holding her right next to their wall when she's screaming every night.

LionelRichieAndTheWardrobe · 25/10/2013 21:16

oooh my neighbours kids does this every summer. It's only one night, yes it's annoying but one night isn't the end of the world is it.

I remember some of the parties I threw. Luckily my parents neighbours were (at the time) a scrapyard, woods and the local pub!

quoteunquote · 25/10/2013 21:16

Go over with a small night case, and a couple of DVDs under your arm and announce that their parents hired you to look after them,

if they deny it tell them to get their parents on the phone,

offer to be paid off £200,

or insist they all watch a bridget jones DVD, with you.

Its fairly rural here, so they probably think the noise isn't carrying.
Have decided to give it til midnight, and then put on wellies and "have a word"
Is midnight reasonable?? - or does it put me in old fogey territory - they are 18 & 19 (and methinks its the start of half term)

Canthisonebeused · 25/10/2013 21:17

Depending on the age I'd actually call the police before they get the selfs into whole lot of trouble.

southeastastra · 25/10/2013 21:18

call the police!!?? Grin lololo

Canthisonebeused · 25/10/2013 21:19

Ah xpost. 18 or 19 I probably wouldn't call the police then. Leave them to it, it's a one off you'll get over a lost nights sleep.

TheFuckersonInquiry · 25/10/2013 21:21

I would go around at 11:30 and ask the to STFU by 12. Then, maybe agree to 12:30.

quoteunquote · 25/10/2013 21:23

Rural, well then,

Leave it until 12.45am to go over,

this gives us time to help you design the appropriate costume to give those who are try out the mushroom tea, the appropriate experience.

You could have a lot of fun with this.

ConsideringTheFuture · 25/10/2013 21:31

It depends on the noise level, but if it was REALLY loud (ie loud enough to keep you or the dc awake) I wouldn't leave it anywhere near midnight.

I'd be over by 9 with a smile and a nice request to mind the noise as the dc's are in bed.

I don't care If that makes me an old fogey. I've been to many parties, some loud but not loud enough to genuinely keep neighbours awake. It's bloody rude and inconsiderate at any time.

pixwix · 25/10/2013 21:47

Ah! I live on a small cul-de-sac - many of our kids are 16, 17, 18ish, with some younger ones thrown in - and they have all played out together for years - mine are 16 and 10. We also have some tinies opposite.

Very occasionally (such as end of term, results etc) a loud party takes place. Cos its only very occasional (and not on a school night) it doesn't bother any of us - but we are all on the alert for things getting out of hand. Things don't tend to get out of hand as such - but the rest of us have our ears open to look out for them and nip in if needs be.

Otherwise, at around midnight, I tend to hoof out with the bins, or put the bikes away, and make my presence known as a gentle reminder, and they tone it down.

And I agree with the mad costume for mushroom tea experience Grin
