Raw pillow/duvet

whilewildeisonmine · 24/10/2013 21:12

Does anyone else have a problem with raw pillows and duvets? DP is such a haphazard sleeper and manages to undress pillows in his sleep and I invariably wake to a face full of bare pillow which just goes straight through me. He thinks I have a rare problem but I'm sure I'm in the majority who can't sleep soundly unless raw pillows/duvets etc are neatly covered up? AIBU to suggest most others would shudder at this too?

And AIBU to expect him to pull the flaps on the pillow slips all the way around the pillow when he changes the sheets rather than just stuffing them in and hoping I won't notice?

Don't even get me started on raw mattress.

I have never heard the term raw pillow. Do you mean one without a pillow case?

It sounds like they haven't been put on properly. As for duvet covers get ones with buttons on.

whilewildeisonmine · 24/10/2013 21:20

Raw pillows are pillows without pillowcases. I always make sure they're on properly but DP seems to succeed in rucking them up and exposing the raw pillow most nights.

We do have buttons on most of the covers but the ikea ones don't and I like the design.

I just wish he'd consider sleeping a little less like an octopus and a little more neatly.

Yes, pillows and duvets need covering up, as do mattresses. Anything else is a bit too drunk studenty for me.

livinginwonderland · 24/10/2013 21:22

Meh, I like a messy bed in the morning. It's a sign I've slept well if my bedding is all over the place - DP hates it though, I tend to roll myself up in the duvet and lie on the edges!

Beccadugs · 24/10/2013 21:24

I call it a naked pillow/duvet, but yes pretty horrific...

CreatureRetorts · 24/10/2013 21:24

Is this a joke?!

Raw pillows?!

BergholtStuttleyJohnson · 24/10/2013 21:24

Yanbu! I hate it if they aren't fully covered, they feel weird. Dh doesn't give a shit and will happily sleep on a coverless quilt if he can't be arsed to put one on.

AgentZigzag · 24/10/2013 21:25

Put two or three pillowcases on?

FracturedViewOfLife · 24/10/2013 21:27

Yes if they are the pillows that are that horrible material. I actually prefer the feel of the feather pillows without covers on as they are nice and cool.

whilewildeisonmine · 24/10/2013 21:50

Agentzigzag that is an excellent solution. I don't know why I didn't think of that. All of my raw pillow nightmares would be over. I might dress the duvet in two covers too...

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 24/10/2013 22:06

I put three on anyway Grin

We put all our spare/old duvets over the mattress with the sheet over the top, makes for a much more comfy night, especially when you've got cheap matress/springs digging in like we have (only tip MIL has given me, but it's a corker).

whilewildeisonmine · 24/10/2013 22:15

We used to have another duvet on our old mattress (great for when my waters broke in bed...) but since we've invested in a nice new one it has been removed. I think the bottom duvet may have to make a return, it was very comfy.

That is a fab tip (two pillow cases) Agent!
My Dh manages to get the sheet off in the night. I'm considering using an extra sheet to wrap him in like a straight jacket....

FalseWidow · 24/10/2013 22:19

I was going to say as AgentZigzag, as I don't know what my DH is doing in bed but nothing stays on. I feel your raw pillow pain, OP.

Two pillow cases, put one on one way, the other on the other way, IYSWIM.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 24/10/2013 22:22

YANBU. I can't stand it when the pillow cases or sheets have come off. DH seems to make his pillow all sweaty and damp, and it makes me if there isn't a cover on it.

iheartdusty · 24/10/2013 22:25

get two duvets, one each

StormClouds · 24/10/2013 22:31

Bluergh - naked pillows! I also hate that OP!

All my pillows each have a pillow protector and then two pillow cases on them.

Mattress has two mattress protectors underneath the sheet.

Duvet cover has buttons - means it stays buttoned up.

No baked pillows/mattresses/duvets in this household!

A revolting chap I house shared with at uni slept straight on his mattress - no sheets and had no covers on his duvet/pillows - walking past his room just hummed and the colour of them was disgusting! He was truly gross. Was v glad when he moved out!

whilewildeisonmine · 24/10/2013 22:39

But Iheartdusty having a duvet each still means there is a likelihood of raw duvet being near me which just makes me shudder. Besides, he keeps me warm which he wouldn't be able to do if we were under separate duvets.

I'm definitely going with Agent's trick.

UniS · 24/10/2013 22:47

double pillow cases, with teh holes at opposite ends IYSWIM, works for me ( I am the octopus) The Duvet I've never managed to undress that is quite some skill your DH has.

AuldAlliance · 24/10/2013 22:48

I use a pillow slip (one w/o the wide seams you get on pillow cases, IYSWIM) and then put a pillow case on the other way around.
I am a bit pernickety about pillows.
DH scrunches his all up, manages to twist off the pillow case and even sometimes (horror!) the pillow slip, and then (more horror!) leaves the pillow bunched up all day long, for germs and odours to fester and multiply. I try and plump up his pillows but if I've got up first I can't and it makes me feel sick to see. I can't stand the idea of sleeping on such evils.

MidniteScribbler · 24/10/2013 22:52

I just wish he'd consider sleeping a little less like an octopus and a little more neatly.

Right, so where exactly does one learn how to control their sleeping positions when they are, you know, asleep?

WilsonFrickett · 24/10/2013 22:57

Pillow liners people!!!! Plain white pillowcases with zips which you put under your fancy pillow cases. They also protect your pillows from sweaty headed dhs thus prolonging their lives. Will be back with a link...

WilsonFrickett · 24/10/2013 23:02

like these

YANBU. (clearly!)

whilewildeisonmine · 24/10/2013 23:18

Midnitescribbler - I'm sure there's a way of trying him.
