Newborn coats- Aibu??

Disclaimer- lighthearted.

I have been sorting through ds2s (1 mo) presents today and he has been given 4, that's 4 coats, in sizes 0-3 and 3-6m. All little puffa jacket things, and a duffel coat.

Now I don't mean to sound ungrateful but it's such a bloody nightmare trying to get little newborn arms through the sleeves, then you have to take the thing off in the car, and in the pushchair you get the newborn temperature paranoia and its much easier to just add/remove blankets rather than faffing with teeny puffa jackets, no?

I don't get it!!

We won't be leaving by car horry - we live right next door to the hospital!

Oh good. Reassuring for labour!

I can't help commenting now though when there's talk of snowsuits/puffy coats and small babies because I don't think it's immediately obvious that one shouldn't use them in car seats and people therefore won't know unless it's pointed out.

Also I think whether you put baby in a pram in a snowsuit or not really depends where you live. We're not in the UK and it gets cold here, in a 2nd floor flat with pram stored on bottom floor across a courtyard and spend a fair amount of time out and about so for al fresco BF, church (always freezing even in summer), and even just going down to the pram an all in one snowsuit type thing will be necessary.

It's nowhere near as thick as DS's or even our winter gear but a cardi/hat/sleep suit/blankets really wouldn't be enough.

Plus after a few months I'll likely back wrap and unless I can find a decent baby wearing coat with a back opening we'll have to wear separate coats, and even in March it'll be chilly and windy.

moggy its a type of sling

moogy a mei tei is a simple baby carrier (hesitating to use the word 'sling'). It's a sort of square of fabric with long straps at each corner. The baby sits snuggled on your front (or back when they're bigger).

I'm not a fan of snow suits. They're a faff to get on and off and have the dreaded sleeves. Blankets all the way here.

Ds has one coat that lasted from birth to nearly 7 months, a gorgeous, handknitted, hooded jacket in dark blue with just one big button. It went in over all his other clothes inc hat if he was wearing one and ws no faff whatsoever. (It was a gift from my DM). In fact title sort of doubled as a cape if i couldn't manage the buttons. Because it was thick knit it lasted ages and when it finally was too small I requested another identical one in larger size which is now his main jacket aged nearly 2. (He does now wear raincoats, outer/proper coats etc too). But real coats for newborns are crazy! Even ds's pram suit I didn't bother with the arms, just cocooned him in it iyswim (always had his hands by his face when tiny).

I once bought some cute moccasin slippers for a baby. I was very young and had never had anything to do with babies before obviously.

I did get DS a snowsuit for when I took him skiing. His arms were stuck out at right angles the entire time he was in it and he looks very cross indeed in all the photos :o

All you need for small babes are lovely soft bundlers from a certain dept.store.They are gorgeous, soft white nighties with elastic at the bottom.Saves trying to line up poppers in the dark.I know because I am old and the 4th generation of my family are now using them too.Look adorable too!

My DS hated those gotthemoon. He used to cry if he had bare legs! I know they're supposed to cover their legs but he'd wiggle them out and complain until I put his babygro back on!
