To be bloody sick of the word....

Artisan.

Dictionary definition - a worker in a skilled trade, particularly one involved in making things by hand

Everything these days seems to be bloody artisan; buildings, coffee, furniture and it's really starting to get on my wick.

There is one mumsnetter on the Christmas board who, I kid you not, has listed "xxxx with artisan oatcakes". How the fuck can an oatcake be artisan?! Which trade is your oatcake skilled in?!

Rant over -almost-

I was thinking it would be this word!

Me too! I only see it on here!

maybe3x · 22/10/2013 18:57

Haha yes I saw Artisan Baguettes the other day Shock

LilithSternin · 22/10/2013 18:57

I saw an advertisement for Artisan Pet Urns the other day. What I want to know is, is the pet artisan? Or is the urn artisan? Either way, having a pet OR an urn skilled in a particular trade has to be some kind of talking point, no?

NancyShrew · 22/10/2013 18:58

SP I saw it five times on the way to work today! incorrectly used in every bloody context!

Lilith I can decide if your pet urns beat my oatcakes!

Yes I see 'Artisan bread' advertised in restaurants & cafes..

greenhill · 22/10/2013 19:02

And who can forget that thread about artisanal slippers at the front door for visitors?

Latara · 22/10/2013 19:02

'Pre-loved' irritates me too. It's second-hand!!

And 'lovingly crafted.....'

Inglori0us · 22/10/2013 19:02

YANBU. It's wank. I've read it about chocolate and cheese today alone. Is it just used as a psynonym for 'poncey'? FFS.

DaddyPigsMistress · 22/10/2013 19:04

People who say artisan bread or any food should be slapped with a trout.

Its bread. Might be naice bread with posh flour but that does not make it artisan.

treadheavily · 22/10/2013 19:04

Artisan bread, artisan coffee, artisan bollocks

DawnOfTheDee · 22/10/2013 19:06

You can get 'artisan pork scratchings' now which I'm pretty sure is one of the harbingers of the apocalypse.

Serialdrinker · 22/10/2013 19:06

I thought it would be 'amazing'. Possibly the most over used word there is.

Artisan is quite twatish.

ProfYaffle · 22/10/2013 19:07

We saw an artisan market advertised locally. We went. It was a craft fair. With Lavender bags. Hmm

Badvoc · 22/10/2013 19:10

Usually the word "artisan" in front of a food stuff means it will look "rough as fuck"
Ime anyway.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 22/10/2013 19:10

Was just telling DM what bollocks this is today!

We were in Dorchester (very naice) and passed a bread shop. Chalkboard up outside (it has to be a chalkboard to be authentic) informing everyone about their artisan bread.

Looked like the same bread as they sell in Tesco to me but for double the price. I asked DM when Greggs will start selling artisan sausage rolls.

YouTheCat · 22/10/2013 19:14

Artisan with regard to food means with added beetles.

Artisan beer means with twigs and bits floating in it.

Artisan when talking about craft things means badly homemade.

And it all means bollock all and inflates the price x5

ShriekingGnawer · 22/10/2013 19:16

I hate it marginally less than artisanal. But it is hideous. Someone asked me if the beer from our brewery was artisan at the weekend. I must of looked blank because they said, 'You know, is your brewery artisan?' Erm, no.

catgirl1976 · 22/10/2013 19:18

Booths has an Artisan restaurant

Selling Artisan bread, artisan salad, artisan........... you get the idea :)

ShriekingGnawer · 22/10/2013 19:18
catgirl1976 · 22/10/2013 19:19

enjoy

** Disclaimer : May cause artisan rage

ShriekingGnawer · 22/10/2013 19:20

Must have looked blank

MMcanny · 22/10/2013 19:20

Passionate is the one that gets me. Ok I can see an Italian restauranteur claiming to be passionate about food - but now even the Funeral Director claims on his business cards to be passionate about his business. Enough already!

exquisitelycuratedartisanchutn · 22/10/2013 19:21

That's nothing - a friend of mine recently described the produce in a local store (much of it artisanal, no doubt) as having been curated.

Regrettably, I sensed no irony Grin
