To be bloody sick of the word....

Artisan.

Dictionary definition - a worker in a skilled trade, particularly one involved in making things by hand

Everything these days seems to be bloody artisan; buildings, coffee, furniture and it's really starting to get on my wick.

There is one mumsnetter on the Christmas board who, I kid you not, has listed "xxxx with artisan oatcakes". How the fuck can an oatcake be artisan?! Which trade is your oatcake skilled in?!

Rant over -almost-

Bloody annoying, I agree. Especially when you know it's been made in a massive factory.

The other word bring bandied about in a similarly silly way is 'bespoke'....grrrr. I heard someone talking about just wanting a bespoke burger the other day.... Oh, do you mean order one from the menu? ffs, I wanted to thump him very hard indeed.

Bloody character limit has decimated my lovingly hand-crafted username Angry

RenterNomad · 22/10/2013 19:25

I've only seen "artisan" used in Wendy Holden novels, so am obviously not being exposed to the right kind of showing off!

YouTheCat · 22/10/2013 19:27

Catgirl, that is truly awful menu. Grin

Artisan trolleys, artisan tills.............

I sort of want an Artisan Board. I'm imagining all sorts.

What MMcanny said.

Why can't you just be good at your job?

nkf · 22/10/2013 19:41

Is it used to mean rustic? Vaguely what townies think country people ate 100 years ago? I've never seen i used. Or maybe I'm not very observant.

I agree about "passionate" when said about things like potatoes. Silly chef programmes.

iklboo · 22/10/2013 19:51

I work with a woman who paid £4.95 for an artisan bacon butty. How can a bacon butty be artisan?

AKissIsNotAContract · 22/10/2013 20:02

Artisan seams to have taken on a new meaning - shaped like a poorly formed turd.

womma · 22/10/2013 21:13

Oh yes, people being 'pashnit' about all sorts of bollocks gets right on my artisanal tits too. Kirsty Allsop is pretty bad for it I've noticed, among others

queenmools · 22/10/2013 21:15

I hate artisan too. It always seems to be used in the wrong context. What do the people who use it actually think it means? We have an artisan bakery in our town and the bloke who owns it had his own tv show with hisbrother. He came across as an utter wanker.

SoleSorceress · 22/10/2013 21:19

We have an artisan bakery near to us. Bloody posh people pack it out everyday, blocking my way into Greggs.
