Mouldy cup

Am I overreacting? Came in from an evening out with bf and spotted a mouldy coffee cup hiding behind the curtain so I tipped the mould down the sink and put the cup in the bowl. There was a bit of dirty water in the sink but the cup was gross and I didn't feel well so I just left it there.

Later on I asked bf to make me a tea for my stomach and guess what? When I got down to the bottom I saw the thick black line where the mould had been. He'd just picked it out of the sink and gave it a quick rinse.

Anyone else think that's unacceptable?

Perhaps he wasn't expecting to find a mouldy cup in the sink.

YABU to have put it there in the first place.

frogspoon · 21/10/2013 22:46

ewww

That is disgusting.

usualsuspect · 21/10/2013 22:48

Bit of penicillin might cure your lurgy.

Justforlaughs · 21/10/2013 22:48

I don't drink tea but would never leave an mouldy cup in the sink. Finding one hidden behind the curtain might be an indication of the standard of cleaning generally so would have made an effort to make sure the cup was clean sterilised before drinking anything out of it.

chateauferret · 21/10/2013 23:19

Well, you only get penicillin when penicillium moulds are grown under stress, not when they just sprout randomly. I am allergic to penicillin but quite happily consume P. roquefortii in blue cheeses (yum).

Nicknameinvalid · 22/10/2013 08:28

Why did I assume with was a mooncup... And why thinking it was about a mooncup did I open the thread?Hmm

SpottyDottie · 22/10/2013 11:31

Disgusting!why pick a cup out of the sink, it's obviously dirty in the first place, never mind mouldy.

harticus · 22/10/2013 11:33

Why didn't you wash it up yourself when you tipped the mould out?

Angelina77 · 22/10/2013 11:37

I just left it there because I was feeling queasy (pregnant). I wish I'd just left the cup on the window ledge, still shuddering at the thought of how rank it was.

I've been known to chuck mouldy cups in the bin.

pianodoodle · 22/10/2013 11:42

I can imagine if DH had visitors coming he'd consider either washing the cup (hassle) or hiding it behind the curtain (much easier) and choose the latter...

Then he'd forget it was there until it walked off on its own.

He probably wasn't expecting to find that particular cup in the sink!

Not that it isn't minging though, so YANBU :)

NotYoMomma · 22/10/2013 11:42

both minging

yak!

badtime · 22/10/2013 11:47

I am really surprised by the people who seem to think it is okay to pick up a cup from the sink and use it without washing it, or even, it seems, looking at it. That is rank.

I am not fussy about mould, but I am fussy about hygiene.

FlapJackOLantern · 22/10/2013 11:55

You asked him to make a drink. Did you honestly expect him to multitask by: putting water in the kettle, switching it on, getting a cup out of the sink, inspecting it, putting tea bag in cup, waiting for kettle to boil, putting water in cup, stirring, taking tea bag out, bringing you cup.

Some men just DON'T see what's in front of them. But he DID rinse it, didn't he?

SpoonfulOfJam · 22/10/2013 11:56

That has made me retch. Bleurgh. I would not have been able to keep that cup of tea down.

NachoAddict · 22/10/2013 11:59

Dp does similar and it drives me mad. Never mould but sometimes teq leaves a ring in the cup if left, dp will swill the cup but not scrub the lines away and I get halfway down my drink and feel sick.

Apparently I am being unreasonable though because its just tea.

Dahlen · 22/10/2013 12:13

YANBU.

Sparrowlegs248 · 22/10/2013 12:23

Yuck. Was it his mouldy cup? In which case fair enough to not wash it. But yanbu about him giving the same unwashed cup to you. Why not take a clean cup from the cupboard? Yuck again.

TheBigJessie · 22/10/2013 13:20

Eurgh. Anyone who just takes dirty cups out of the sink to reuse for themselves, never mind another person Angry, is bloody disgusting!

SolidGoldBrass · 22/10/2013 13:26

Oh dear oh dear. It's a wonder any of you have functioning immune systems at all if you're this precious. THough I'll excuse the OP as being pregnant makes you more squeamish.

QuacksForDoughnuts · 22/10/2013 15:10

I don't consider myself 'precious', but still don't think OP is being unreasonable, especially if it was the partner who left the cup to get mouldy. I have one cup for coffee, one for herbal tea and one for normal tea, they get rinsed out after each use and go in the dishwasher every week or so. I'm not that careful with rinsing as it's only me who uses them. If making a drink for anyone else I would get a clean cup out of the cupboard. If it's in the sink that's a massive clue that it needs washing before reuse, even if there isn't visible mould. I may be a bit biased about partnery misbehaviour though - ex once made me a cup of coffee at work, waited until I'd had a few sips then proudly told me the cup had had an inch of mouldy milky coffee and also two dead moths floating in it. And that he didn't bother with washing up liquid. Current partner has been known to over-reuse the contents of the coffee filter if I don't empty it constantly, but at least I trust him to remove traces of minibeast...

Dahlen · 22/10/2013 15:18

It's the mould thing though, isn't it? I reuse my cups without washing, but I'd get a fresh one for someone else. I certainly wouldn't pick one up with a black furry line of mould inside and make tea in it to give to anyone.

TheEponymousGrub · 22/10/2013 15:23

over-reuse the contents of the coffee filter

does that mean re-using them more than they should be re-used?????

(putrid)

TheEponymousGrub · 22/10/2013 15:24

And no! YANBU!

(even putrider)

MissStrawberry · 22/10/2013 15:29

Hmm at people saying she should have washed the cup. I think that is less bad than him using an obviously dirty cup for his pregnant partner to drink out of.
