Am I overreacting?

I ordered a set of photo key rings off of this website 2 days ago for next day delivery, After sitting in with 2 very bored children it never arrived yesterday and when I sent an E-mail asking where my item was my reply was that the courier (A well know company) was 'searching' for this item.

Today after E-mailing twice and trying to get in touch by phone I have had an E-mail from the website stating that the courier had looked for my parcel all night and cannot find it, they have offered me a re-print or a refund.

That's fine but the major problem here is that there are pictures of my children on these key rings and now I have no idea where they are/who can see them.

I am extremely annoyed that my children's pictures are somewhere I don't know and I think that the company should realise that this is a major error on there part.

AIBU to put a further complaint in for the company due to the fact that there were pictures of my children on the key rings or do I just accept that it has happened and go for the reprint/full refund?

what do you think people will do if they find them? most likely throw them away so unless they were naked shots then don't see the problem tbh

SoupDragon · 18/10/2013 11:36

What would you do if you lost your keys with these keyrings on? This is the same thing.

SoupDragon · 18/10/2013 11:36

I'm not seeing an issue really - as StepAway says, what do you think people are going to do with them?

YoniMitchell · 18/10/2013 11:37

I'd just take the reprint or refund tbh. It's annoying you've stayed in for something that didn't turn up when expected though but I'd not get more worked up than that.

I'm not sure what you expect the implications of the missing photos to be though? Assuming you took the photos and they're not 'inappropriate' and they don't include any personal info on your kids, then what's the danger?

TEErickOrTEEreat · 18/10/2013 11:37

Overacting. They are pictures, not your actual children.

Do you put bags over their heads when they are in public?

BrianTheMole · 18/10/2013 11:37

What do you think people are going to do with those pictures though? Seriously?

NomDeOrdinateur · 18/10/2013 11:38

Yes, you are. If your children exit the house on a daily basis, you have no idea who can see them (and even Shock potentially see where they live) in everyday life. Their likenesses don't suddenly present a child protection issue when printed on glossy paper and encased in plastic.

That doesn't change the fact that the service has been unsatisfactory, of course Smile.

Kemmo · 18/10/2013 11:38

TBH I think if you agree to have photos of your children posted then you are implicitly accepting this risk.
And if you are this stressed about pics of your children being beyond your control then you should prob avoid giving electronic copies to printing companies. You have no guarantees that they will destroy the electronic copy once it has been printed.

VoiceofRaisin · 18/10/2013 11:41

What bad thing is it that you think might arise from pictures (presumably cute) of your DC being somewhere on a lost keyring fob? I am trying to understand your concerns so I am tempted to say YABU.

However YWNBU for being annoyed at staying in for a delivery that never arrived.

Footface · 18/10/2013 11:44

What do you want the company to do?

Caitlin17 · 18/10/2013 11:45

The internet is full of pictures of people's children. Do you use Facebook or similar?

What do you think is going to happen? The person who has the parcel is going to come to the address on it and kidnap them?

YABU.

To be honest I'd say the fact you spent a whole day sitting in waiting for what is frankly a pretty mundane item is more to worry about.

Caitlin17 · 18/10/2013 11:50

Sorry and by that, I meant, seriously, you couldn't think of anything which was more important/would have been less of a bore for your children than getting these key rings the day you expected?

MrsNoodleHead · 18/10/2013 11:50

YAB bizarre.

KhunZhoop · 18/10/2013 11:51

Yes, you are overreacting. Massively.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 18/10/2013 11:58

Erm in the nicest possible way get a grip!

Goldmandra · 18/10/2013 11:59

There seems to be a developing culture of people panicking about pictures of children being available to others.

Whilst I acknowledge the need to take a great deal of care around images of looked after children or others for whom there is a risk associated with certain people seeing them and, clearly, if you take photos of other people's children and put them on Fb you could be unknowingly putting them at risk. I have to wonder what the worry is about the others.

There is now presumably a package somewhere now with pictures of the OP's children and their address but how does that put the children at risk? It's not like households with children in are rare. If someone was going to target children it's unlikely they would track them down using the address on a package. They could achieve their aims by walking down any random street.

So where does this fear come from?

OP, what do you think is going to happen to those photos?

PeppiNephrine · 18/10/2013 12:02

Why would you sit in to wait for something that fits in an envelope?

And yes, you are REALLY overreacting!

FlapJackOLantern · 18/10/2013 12:02

What they all said ^^.

AmberLeaf · 18/10/2013 12:02

You are overreacting.

stopthiscrap · 18/10/2013 12:10

But by ordering them in the first place you were supplying people with the photos unless it is a company ran by the CIA Security services.

Presumably YOU sent an electronic image of your children over the internet? Were the keyrings for ornament only? Gifts? What would you do if granny lost her keys complete with photo keyring? Sue her?

If you are the type to froth over this why ON EARTH would you make KEYRINGS that are items not well known for being kept in a safe in a locked room down a long corridor under the ground guarded by armed SAS in case they get seen by anyone?

TEErickOrTEEreat · 18/10/2013 12:11

Should also be pointed out, to everyone who freaks out about pics of their children being around, and this applies even to at risk children, that our country is blanketed by CCTV.

You child's picture is on a computer some where all day every day.

turnaroundbrighteyes · 18/10/2013 13:54

there's a good chance that they didn't send them and are covering it up by blaming the courier!

Fwiw I'd always ask for the tracking number if something doesn't arrive on time.

SoleSorceress · 18/10/2013 13:57

Are they naked pics? Confused

CoffeeTea103 · 18/10/2013 14:04

Yes you are overreacting and a few posters here have put it well how unreasonable you are.

jerryfudd · 18/10/2013 14:10

I'm glad I'm not the only one that read and thought "and the issue is?"
