This is not a best friend but still someone i consider a friend & I buy Christmas presents for her children. We don't have much money for presents, so the gifts are simple but thoughtful. I just saw last years Christmas gift for sale on her fb. I feel upset: Aibu?

People give presents because they have a bond with them - giving and receiving gifts (even unappreciated or ill-chosen ones) is a sign of affection and a recognition of friendship. Seeing someone disposie of a gift can be seen as a rejection of that bond. The practicalities (lack of space , owned for a year etc) are really irrelevant to what is essentially an emotional issue. If you don't want something which friend has offered, at least it should be sold or passed on in such a way that the donor doesn't find out - otherwise it is hurtful.

I wouldnt sell anything someone has given me.I dont sell anything ds has been bought either eg clothes and toys i will just pass them on because i feel its cheeky as someone bought it you.I cant explain entirely why but it makes sense to me.Id be hurt if id spent money on a gift and someone sold it on.

Perhaps your friend is selling a duplicate gift and her DC still has your gift.

It may seem insensitive but if she is going to the trouble of selling something for £1 she is probably very hard up.

I would look at reducing the number of presents you buy at Christmas, far better to meet up for a coffee and a mince pie.

We dont even know what the gift is so i dont think we can judge.

Going to out myself here. I buy my dad books as presents quite often for christmas. He spends the day reading the book. By the 27th dec it is in the charity shop. I could not care less if he gave it away or sold it as long as he has read it first which he does.

I would rather someone else gets to enjoy it rather than it gather dust in the cupboard.

I bought my MIL some expensive brandy for xmas 2 years ago. She likes brandy and drinks it several times a week.

So i thought it would be the perfect gift. £30 for 70cl i cant remember what it was called.

She had afew mouthfuls of it, didnt like it, told me she only likes the cheap stuff and then asked on fb if anyone wanted it for free afew month later.

I looked at the cheese board in my present cupboard and hung my heads with shame.
I sent it to the charity shop a couple of weeks ago
so who knows which one of you might get it Halloween Grin
