to be shocked someone hung dead pheasant on my front gate

Opened my front gate around 10minutes ago to let cat in and there was something hanging on the front gate. I am in pj's, so husband went out and there was a dead pheasant hanging from string from our front gate. We live in London.

I don't know if it was some prank by kids or something sinister.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

You can't put them flat, they have to dangle.

Caitlin17 · 13/10/2013 22:04

ScarerStratton, I'm loving the idea of a futility room, with or without a dove!

babyicebean · 13/10/2013 22:05

I do get pheasant left at mine, normally in the shed next to the front door where the meters are. Can make the meter readers knock, tho usually in a brace of. Also have had trout, rabbit, marrow, beans and various other veg. It's the man over the road that does it and I do return the favours with cake and bread.

He has an allotment and not so much green fingers as green arms. If I mention something food wise it may well appear at some point.

GrendelsMum · 13/10/2013 22:06

Ah, there we are, then. The reason it wasn't left lying on the doorstep.

ScarerStratton · 13/10/2013 22:06

Don't you think you might be being the teensiest bit paranoid? If you hear hoofbeats, look for horses, not zebras; if you find half a brace of pheasents hanging on your gate, look for gifters, not voodoo gangsters.

GrendelsMum · 13/10/2013 22:07

Would nt voodoo pheasant make a great name for a band?

ScarerStratton · 13/10/2013 22:07

I'm kind of grateful the barn owl died before it got to me, Lord knows what to make of that in my futility room.

fridayfridayfriday · 13/10/2013 22:09

Sounds sinister. Horrible. Can you move?

ScarerStratton · 13/10/2013 22:14

Fucksake friday, don't encourage it, it's a misplaced gift ffs. Otherwise, it would be headless, on the floor, with funny symbols drawn in its blood.

Hold on, were there funny symbols drawn in blood? I don't think we've asked that yet.

satsumagirl · 13/10/2013 22:16

Definitely a gift and nothing to worry about.

Maybe they did get the wrong house? I am imagining a tipsy Jack Whitehall type stumbling through London slurring ,'Yeah, Binksy lives in this house. I know it hic I'm like totes leaving this pheasant here. Laters Binks!' Grin

MammaTJ · 13/10/2013 22:16

What a waste!

RustyBear · 13/10/2013 22:19

"a peasant on a gate in London is certainly notable." It certainly would be, Caja. Even more so than a pheasant...

Satsuma are you suggesting that Boris Johnson is leaving voodoo gang markers outside OP house?

Shock

Once when we were walking in the Yorkshire Dales we passed a house whose gate had three voles or similar nailed up by their tails. Different strokes, I guess .....

DropYourSword · 13/10/2013 22:23

How many peasants does a brace comprise of?

AllThatGlistens · 13/10/2013 22:25

Snorting at a gangland execution of a pheasant! Grin

AllThatGlistens · 13/10/2013 22:25

Brace of peasants! Grin

HesterShaw · 13/10/2013 22:28

How many peasants does a brace comprise of?

Two I believe.

One flew through my sunroof once - gave me a bit of a start.

DashingRedhead · 13/10/2013 22:30

Anyone else getting echoes of 'something nasty in the woodshed'? Sorry OP, not meaning to be rude and suggest you are demented Ada Doom type person but it's reminding me of the water voles...

Northernlurker · 13/10/2013 22:33

A brace is a cock and a hen. Which did you have OP? Do you know? I can't believe you've gone all paranoid and binned this. It's clearly a gift at the wrong house.

LondonNinja · 13/10/2013 22:35

Flying peasants?

Fantastic Grin

But I do think it's a weird gift. OP, try to forget it. So many posters reckon it's a gift that there's a good chance said pheasant is one (delivered to the wrong address).

ICantGoOverItICantGoUnderIt · 13/10/2013 22:35

This used to happen to my family. Try not to worry anymore about it. It was a gift you didn't want and now it's gone.

I won't scare the OP with the tale of my BIL who came across a stag that had been killed on the road, threw it in the back of his pickup, hung it in his dad's garage, butchered it then served it in a red currant stew. She might think he's part of the occult.

TSSDNCOP · 13/10/2013 22:35

Damn Tories nailing peasants to unsuspecting constituents gates now.

TSSDNCOP · 13/10/2013 22:36

Why should one expect a brace vs a solo peasant?

DropYourSword · 13/10/2013 22:41

Oooops haha! Clearly my phone has delusions of grandeur, roaming around on its country estate belittling the peasants!!

Am surprised to hear a brace is only two PHEASANTS, it sounds like it should be 5 or so. Obviously am a city girl!
