Opened my front gate around 10minutes ago to let cat in and there was something hanging on the front gate. I am in pj's, so husband went out and there was a dead pheasant hanging from string from our front gate. We live in London.

I don't know if it was some prank by kids or something sinister.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Honestly, I'm not making it up, but sadly Kettners was a Pizza Express many years ago - although it was still called Kettners and it still had its quirky layout with different bars and dining rooms - but the food was definitely PE.

I'm mighty relieved to hear it's back to being a proper restaurant piss-up venue again Grin

And, to get back to the thread, I'm a Londoner, but very aware of the pheasant/grouse/fish/game 'gifting'! But I do agree, that if the OP doesn't think she knows anyone who might do that, then I guess it could be a bit unnerving!

There is a big difference between the necessary culling of various species by trained professionals for management purposes, and people who can't shoot cleanly trying to kill animals for "sport"

Well, duh. Hmm

So who do you think does most of the countryside management then? To what end do you think they do it for? And why on earth do you assume they can't all shoot cleanly? How can you just randomly insult a whole cross section of people? Have you got some working class chip on your shoulder and you think shooting is elitist? We shoot pheasants but we also shoot rabbits and pigeons. Jesus, could you pander anymore to the bloody stereotype?

I'm surprised you threw a good bird away OP! Gangs do not leave pheasants on gates for any reason, definitely not Oxfordshire gangs, and almost certainly not London gangs! They use chalk for marking houses, not pheasants! Maybe someone had a spare and thought they'd do a nice thing for a stranger?

If you examined it and it was in good condition there's no reason to think it was tainted, that's quite unrealistic. I think the most likely explanation is that someone was leaving a pheasant for a friend, but got the wrong address.
