I've just opened a tub of natural yoghurt that has the best before date of 1st October. It looks, smells and tastes ok...

Finola1step · 11/10/2013 17:51

I wouldn't.

overmydeadbody · 11/10/2013 17:52

Yes, it is fine.

It is yoghurt!!!

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/10/2013 17:53

No I wouldn't.

thistlelicker · 11/10/2013 17:53

No! I wouldn't eat that ten days past date sorry

DragonsAreReal · 11/10/2013 17:53

yoghurt is basically gone off milk anyway isn't it??

It has been sealed.

It smells and tastes fine. What could possibly go wrong if feeding it to your kids?

Why not Finola?

RhubarbCrumbled · 11/10/2013 17:55

I've been officially told that so long as it's freshly opened it's fine.

Lonecatwithkitten · 11/10/2013 17:55

Yoghurt is sour milk as long as there is no mould it will be fine.

Chippednailvarnish · 11/10/2013 17:57

Well I'm going to eat it, I'll be report in later and if I don't you'll all know that out of date yoghurt is deadly Grin

OP posts:
livinginwonderland · 11/10/2013 17:57

It's yoghurt, it won't kill you. Yoghurt is gone off milk and bacteria anyway!

Rowanred · 11/10/2013 17:58

yogurt doesn't go off - it will be fine!

NoComet · 11/10/2013 18:00

Muller corners certainly last that long past there dates.

Finola1step · 11/10/2013 18:00

I just wouldn't give something that is 10 days past its sell by date to my children who are both quite young. Even if it is yoghurt which does stay ok for a number of days. I might eat it myself but I wouldn't risk it with my children. Probably because I detest cleaning up vomit as it makes me vomit too.

TurnOffTheTv · 11/10/2013 18:01

People are bonkers! Of course it's fine :-)

TobyLerone · 11/10/2013 18:02

Not a chance. I wouldn't feed them anything I wouldn't eat myself.

heidihole · 11/10/2013 18:02

Yoghurt is fine if no mould

Finola1step · 11/10/2013 18:03

Bonkers I may be. Try it OP but update us... Tomorrow. I'm intrigued.

TurnOffTheTv · 11/10/2013 18:04

The clue is in the 'best before' its not 'use by' things that are labelled best before is just a quality issue, rather than a dangerous one.

TobyLerone · 11/10/2013 18:05

The date on yogurt is a 'use by' date. Very few things actually carry a 'best before' date.

whois · 11/10/2013 18:06

If there is no mould in there (very obvious) then it's fine. It's been sealed, and smells and looks and tasted fine if will be fine. Give it a stir to make sure no moul lumps further down.

I once had a nasty surprise eating a fruit corner yog. Bit into what I thought was a pice of strawberry to find it was a lump of mould. Gross.

SDeuchars · 11/10/2013 18:06

If the top is not 'blown' (pushing up and tight), then it the yoghurt will be fine.

TurnOffTheTv · 11/10/2013 18:06

Just going by what the OP said.

TobyLerone · 11/10/2013 18:07

The OP is wrong.

FlapJackOLantern · 11/10/2013 18:10

Yes, it's fine. By the cringe there are some food wimps on here Grin

If it ain't green with mould, smelly or gungy..........then it's fine, honestly!
