My mother is laughing at me

Last time I invite her for Christmas!

not really, she's lovely, just a traditionalist

I once had Yorkshire pudding for desert. It definitely has a place on the table at Christmas.

BrokenSunglasses · 08/10/2013 19:08

If there's gravy, then there's a place for a Yorkshire pud. Fact.

Towanda · 08/10/2013 19:08

Yanbu. Yorkshire pudding is essential with any roast dinner let alone the best one of the year!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/10/2013 19:09

My DS would stage a mutiny if there were no Yorkshires Wink

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/10/2013 19:09

Pudding people here too. Got to be done.

MurderOfBanshees · 08/10/2013 19:11

Broken Absolutely! Gravy needs to be poured into the Yorkshire puds!

clairemum22 · 08/10/2013 19:13

We have them with any roast dinner!

17leftfeet · 08/10/2013 19:15

Ah a vegetable debate

We will be having....

Carrots
Swede
Peas
Parsnips
Green beans
Leeks

Swede & parsnip gets loaded into the Yorkshire pudding and then drowned in gravy
Leeks and stuffing get placed on top of the meat as there is no other room after the rest of the plate is filled with roast potatoes

The absence of sprouts is a very deliberate move!

Now I'm going to be controversial. I live in Yorkshire and am Yorkshire born and bred, BUT, we don't have yorkshires at Christmas purely because it's such a filling meal anyway.
With any other roast dinner though they are are an essential part and ALWAYS the starter! Grin

ShakeAndVac · 08/10/2013 19:22

YABVVVVVU. Yorkshire puds are traditional and fantastic for Sunday dinner. It has no place, however, at Christmas dinner.
Christmas dinner is a place for turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, lots of veg, cranberry sauce and pigs in blankets.
Yorkshire pudding is just WRONG. So there. Smile

Pooka · 08/10/2013 19:22

No no no! Unless you're having roast beef.

Yorkshires only go with roast beef in my book!

passmetheprozac · 08/10/2013 19:23

For me it really doesn't matter what the meat is, if I am having a roast Yorkshire puddings are a must, and that extends to xmas.

I bet mine are bigger than yours Grin

Pooka · 08/10/2013 19:25

Mash??? With roast potatoes too?

Madness, utter madness!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 08/10/2013 19:26

So many wrong people on this thread. Yorkshires go with anything. When will you learn?

somewheresomehow · 08/10/2013 19:30

who gives a toss what is traditional or not, i have to make loads of yorkies for my lot, and they are a must have with christmas dinner

ThePuffyShirt · 08/10/2013 19:36

Yorkshire pudding is only to accompany roast beef.

My dh informed me on Sunday that as children, they used to have leftover Yorkshire pudding with jam! Shock

Chusband · 08/10/2013 19:38

Mange tout with Christmas dinner dame?! Are you insane?

17leftfeet · 08/10/2013 19:38

Yorkshire pudding and golden syrup

Mmmmmmmm

OP posts:
oversomeniagara · 08/10/2013 19:38

thepuffyshirt, yes yes! We did that too. None of my southern friends believe me. It is essentially a baked pancake so not as mad as it sounds.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2013 19:39

My mum would sometimes do extra (what is this 'leftover Yorkshire pudding? Does that ever happen? Confused) for a dessert - golden syrup rather than jam. Ideally a big one done in a baking tray rather than little ones.

whois · 08/10/2013 19:39

I love Yorkshire puds, so YANBU

MissStrawberry · 08/10/2013 19:39

What part of the world do you live in that you call them yorkies? I have read it a lot on here (never heard it anywhere else) and it just doesn't flow right imo.

Grin.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/10/2013 19:41

We have turkey and roast beef.

TBH even if we didn't do the beef i'd still do Yorkshires. I always do extra so I can make sandwiches with them.

ControlGeek · 08/10/2013 19:41

Of course you have to have yorkies with a christmas dinner! Not only that but you have to make enough to survive the onslaught, and be able to nibble them cold with salt later that evening.

DP has to put up with my insistence on yorkies, but in return I have to put up with his insanely weird insistence on having both mashed and roast potatoes, and both boiled and roast carrots.

macthecatsmum · 08/10/2013 19:41

Lordy-I can imagine their sad little faces if there were no Yorkshires-poor little mites they are only 24, 22, 15 and 55
My dinner is: turkey, Ham, roast pots, roast squash and sweet potato mashed pots, carrots, both cooked and raw, 6 ton of stuffing, peas, and YORKSHIRES!!! (but shhhh they are frozen) Wink
and no fucking sprouts.
my dad (Yorkshire born and bred) used to have leftover pud with either milk and sugar or golden syrup.
