I've been known to drag an armchair out the front to sit on. I like to sleep on it.

maras2 · 07/10/2013 15:52

Everyone knows that sitting on doorsteps gives you piles. < fact > My MIL knows these things. We must all be as common as muck as we've all done our fair share of doorstep sitting over the years. Bugger.Common and with sore arses.Life's a bitch innit.

Famzilla · 07/10/2013 15:53

I wouldn't, because the horrible people opposite me do it and I don't wanna inhale their pot fumes, listen to their gobby 6 year old kids threaten to kick me in the cunt or watch them punch each other's remaining teeth out for nicking the others lambrini.

Oh, and the sun is blocked by the house.

waikikamookau · 07/10/2013 15:53

an old fashioned thing to do perhaps?

Your house is clearly on the wrong side of the road - i don't have to sit on my front door step, i sit in my lovely back garden

waikikamookau · 07/10/2013 15:56

my back garden gets sun til 2.30 ish, and goes further and further down the garden, til its gone, and its in the front , all afternoon I guess.

I did wonder about moving to a house opposite, good plan

Only if he was smoking, drinking beer and keep peering back into the house to shout at a naked toddler that was being naughty.

TiggyD · 07/10/2013 15:58

It's not that I don't like common people: I once met somebody who had been on a bus, but I don't feel I'd fit in on their threads. I'll go and post on a thread about balsamic vinegar or something a bit more...you know.

waikikamookau · 07/10/2013 15:59

waikikamookau · 07/10/2013 16:02

I don't think even my dh would shit in the front garden, Shock

SoupDragon · 07/10/2013 16:05

Quite - I thought "Do you really need to ask whether that's common? Really??" Then I saw it on Active Conversations again and realised what it said :o

Apparently the previous owners of my house used to sit on the front step and drink wine as it catches the last sun of the day.

Tabby1963 · 07/10/2013 16:05

I don't need to sit on the top step, I have a fold up chair by the front door specifically for this purpose. Many a time I have been sitting outside the front door (in full view of the whole street!) with laptop, cuppa and plate of biscuits. I had no idea it was 'common', and I couldn't give a fig either lol.

ProfondoRosso · 07/10/2013 16:05

YABU to call anyone common. As is anyone else who describes people as 'common.' Common compared to what/who?

TheBigJessie · 07/10/2013 16:07

Oi. Someone answer my question!

waikikamookau · 07/10/2013 16:09

If they were drunk, that's even more worrying.

It was well before 7pm!

noddyholder · 07/10/2013 16:20

I would and the people opposite us all do as its sunnier than the back and I live in a naice road Shock I also hang my washing on the balcony eat in the street and went to private school!

Nombrechanger · 07/10/2013 16:21

I agree with you. It is a bit common.

I wouldn't do it myself and I'm glad that people don't do it on my road.

waikikamookau · 07/10/2013 16:23

brave to post that nombrechamber
congrats.

magentastardust · 07/10/2013 16:23

My friends mum used to give us into trouble for sitting on her front door step when we were teenagers as it was common -so it appears you are not alone.

noddyholder · 07/10/2013 16:24

Tbh you sound more common than him he is at least comfortable enough to do what he wants in his own home you on the other hand are stifled

noddyholder · 07/10/2013 16:27

:)

BadSeedsAddict · 07/10/2013 16:30

Read an anthropology book about unspoken habits and 'rules' in England. The woman doing the research found that most front gardens were for show, and that the front gardens with old sofas in them were almost the only ones where people actually sat out!
