To think the way these nightdresses are advertised is creepy...

I am starting to collate things I will need for my hospital bag when I go in to have DC2 in Dec. I am looking for a couple of cheap nightdresses so went to Amazon to look at what they have and sorted by price.

I came across these and just think the way they are presented is really quite creepy and unsavoury. I am not normally a prude but AIBU?

she is very clearly an adult. It is no worse than glamour models dressing up in school uniforms. Not mine or DHs thing but I can imagine that it appeals to some kinks

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 05/10/2013 20:36

They wouldn't publish my review for some reason?

MyBaby1day · 06/10/2013 04:46

You see this sort of thing with Japanese and Chinese sites, they have little girl dresses and things so think it's more a culture clash than anything.

Roshbegosh · 06/10/2013 04:54

The cultural preference doesn't make it acceptable, why would it? It's really sickening.

Yes, the background stuff makes one wonder.

TiggyD · 06/10/2013 07:08

YABU for considering those outfits for wearing in a hospital. You could see her pants! try this

Roshbegosh · 06/10/2013 09:10

I have written a review on Amazon too now. I know it is hopeless to try to stop all this but you just have to say something don't you?

mumofboyo · 06/10/2013 09:56

YANBU I find it a bit odd that they're advertising a bridal underwear set, which itself is nice, in a child's bedroom.I showed DH and he says the same.

Jude89 · 06/10/2013 14:25

its weird, but the "Customers Who Viewed This Item Also Viewed..." is all pigeon related, I think we're really skewing their system!

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 06/10/2013 14:42

The nighty is very nice, but there is no need to add the children's toys.

No doubt people are into that kind of kink, but images like that don't belong on a main stream site.

fluffyraggies · 06/10/2013 14:47

Grin Ha Ha - i just had a peep at the nighty link and now, based on my recent viewing, i'm being recommended -

Nelsons Chilblains Cream - 30 g
4.1 out of 5 stars (24) £4.55

and

Zheng Gu Shui External Analgesic...
4.9 out of 5 stars £6.00

Confused - the mind boggles!

OP i agree 100% about the horrid nuances here. Wrong. In any culture.

samandi · 06/10/2013 15:28

YANBU. Creepy and inappropriate.

samandi · 06/10/2013 15:30

she is very clearly an adult

I'd disagree with that. She could easily pass for 15 based on those photos.

Ishouldbesolucky · 06/10/2013 18:53

I don't think it's vile or creepy. You can clearly tell this model is not a child if you don't like the way the product is marketed don't buy it. Like I say it's not grim, vile or sexualising women as children

Catsize · 06/10/2013 19:54

Disgusting. Really surprised this is on Amazon. My iPad feels all tainted now!

GeppaGip · 06/10/2013 21:25

Ah I'm glad so many people shared my thoughts on this. Have read the new reviews on Amazon and I am glad people are saying something about this. There is a place for pics like that and I would argue that Amazon wasn't that place.

Ishouldbesolucky, very eloquently and reasonably argued there. I would say you are completely wrong on your last point and the rest is down to perception.

HopLittleFroggiesHopSkipJump · 06/10/2013 21:49

Disgusting, I have posted a review, though doubt it will make any difference.
I hope you've found a slightly more appropriate one for hospital!

ThePinkOcelot · 06/10/2013 21:49

She looks like a child pawprint. Horrible. A paedos dream!

SixFeetUnder · 06/10/2013 21:57

Not at all surprised Amazon are selling something like this, they have no morals when it comes to the merchandise they choose to sell and think that those of you who have reported will be likely to recieve a standardised 'we do not control what the customer chooses to buy' or similar nonsense.

This is the same company who saw nothing wrong with selling a how to guide to be a paedophile and another book recommending how to train your child by beating them - really don't see them caring about a nightie.

They haven't received a penny of my money for years and I would rather pay more than give them anything.

MyBaby1day · 07/10/2013 03:47

@Roshbegosh not saying it does but it explains it.

LeoandBoosmum · 07/10/2013 04:56

Wow... I'm flabbergasted! That is just horrendous. It's really creeped me out.

Gullygirl · 07/10/2013 09:45

I have left a review and also reported.

friday16 · 07/10/2013 10:51

Thesis: The problem with acting out transgressive fantasies is that although some of the participants will be consenting adults, some of those adults may not realise that. By normalising the idea of abusive sex, the sale of items which might be used as part of sex between consenting adults also encourages potential abusers in their criminal intentions.

Discuss with reference to (a) an obscure corner of Amazon where nightdress is being sold with the impression that pre-pubescent girls are sexual beings and (b) Fifty Shades of Grey, a massive best-seller that gives the impression that many women secretly fantasise about being anally raped.

Fortunately, just as no MN user would buy (a), none of them have read (b) either. Hmm

Shock

Knew about the second book mentioned there - but not heard about the 'guide to being a paedoohile' before now though. That is beyond the pale. Good God :(
