I stopped buying pringles. I didnt like that not only do you just want mre and more, but also that I had to eat a lot of them before I started feeling any less hungry.

Yep, Pringles.

Even when I am feeling slightly queasy, I still keep on reaching into that fucking tube.

^ This exactly.

BloodyTiredofThis · 02/10/2013 21:03

Ofcourse. Corn syrup is used in nearly everything in place of sugar and switches off the hormone in the brain that tells you to stop eating when you're full up.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 02/10/2013 21:07

I'm trying to overhaul my diet and realising how much crap is added to food. It's so time consuming to make everything from scratch but it's a habit I'm trying to form.

Pringles don't do it for me either, I'm happy to eat one or two but not loads at a time.

Yanbu wheat and corn (maize) derivatives are added to virtually every processed food, and they make you eat more (scientifically demonstrated in many studies).

Food manufacturers (the very term food manufacture is scary! Food should be GROWN) are many things, but they are not stupid. They want you to eat more, do you buy more.

Ingredients to look out for include maltodextrin, food starch, corn starch, corn syrup, fructose-glucose syrup, high fructose corn syrup, modified starch or corn flour. These, and many other names for the same things are all highly processed carbohydrates and play hell with your blood sugar and metabolism, with the "bonus" of adding lots of processed grain proteins too (gluten and others).

All of these affect your appetite by various mechanisms... "Wheatbelly" makes for very interesting reading on this topic (there is a book, but the blog is free).

For the food industry, profit, not health is the bottom line Angry.

If I start eating a big bag of tortilla chips with the 4-pack of dips (you know the ones with garlic and onion, salsa, cheese), I literally cannot stop till they have all gone Blush
