To think a 7 year old shouldn't need constant reminding to eat with his mouth closed?

It's really grating on my nerves now, every mealtime I keep asking him/reminding him.

I can't stand the noise, I've asked him nicely, explained why its not nice, told him off, and it makes no difference.

I've suggested he put less in his mouth, so he can close it.

Maybe I just need ear plugs? I struggle to sit at the table with the slurping chewing noises.

Is there anything I can do, or do I just accept he is 7 and isn't going to remember?

My ds is 8 and prefers to eat with his hands! I'm going "sit down on your seat, use a fork. stop using your hands. Don't eat the rice with your hands..."

My nephew eats with his mouth open. Hes 12!
He has never been told by his parents to close his mouth and I cant count the amount of times ive had to tell him to wipe the mess around his mouth when hes finished eating.
Neither my 10 or 13 year old will eat when hes around, the 13 year old says it makes him feel sick.

I really can't say it's something I notice,so I am happy with the people around me eating in a way that is comfortable for them,in a home setting.I do,however, eat with my mouth closed and would find it unnatural to do otherwise.

But I can appreciate from this thread that I should perhaps be paying more attention and pointing out that in public, eating should be done with mouths closed and plates should not be licked.

I was that 7 year old - I couldn't breath through my nose so had to open my mouth while eating - get his nose checked.

Then keep on at him to close his mouth when eating.

I would teach him by eating with my mouth open in full view with disgusting mixture food in and he might then get the message.
Include the noises.Envy

Two warning then for him the meal is over. Seriously. You shouldn't either have to put up with it or go on about it- that will spoil everyone else's meal. He's 7, not 2.

It's elbows on the table, here.

I will say "elbows" and three sets will be removed.

They are 14, 12 and 9.

Gaaaaagh!

My OH eats with his mouth open (adenoid trouble) and uses his tongue as a napkin. Have taken to sitting at right angles to him during meals otherwise think I will hit him in the chops with the cruet! Have reminded (nagged) him about this daily for hundreds of years. I blame his mother.
Start early and enforce good manners at all times is my advice.

Noisy eating really puts me off my biscuits.

My sons and my ex are all the same. So noisy.

I tell my eldest son regularly, to no avail.
