AIBU?

To not want nor agree with fucking douching or moisturising MY OWN Vag.

I can't go anywhere nor watch TV without being reminded that I 'Should' be doing one of/both and I'm getting slightly pissed off with this severely outdated information.
Dr's recommend it here Shock Half of pharmacies are taken up with feminine products such as Provag gel - moisturiser for your vagina (WTAF?) and floraVag - to purify your vagina Hmm I'm getting leaflets in the mailbox and even got given one on a visit to the cinema ffs!
Final straw today was in the pharmacy - the assistant asked if I'd like to buy some on promotion so I told her I didn't use it and didn't want to cause myself thrush and she looked at me like I'd just told her I ate newborn babies Confused
If my translation of language would have allowed I'd have also informed her that my own Gynaecologist and GP both advise against using anything other than gentle soap on the outside - so thank you very much but my vag is capable of cleaning itself, is clean and hygenic, doesn't smell and I manage perfectly well without FloraVag.

Just wanted to point out there is a difference between vagina and vulva. From the thread title the Op is referring to douching/moisturising internally/inside the vagina.

This is not the same as washing the vulva. I would hope that those using femfresh are using it to deal with external hygiene, and not inside as there is never any need to wash internally.

When I had the mirena coil it gave me a relentless cycle of thrush and BV that no amount of pills/creams or other shit could sort out. Fem fresh really really helped keep the smelly discharge under some semblance of control, until I was able to get the damned coil removed. Before using it I was self conscious, depressed and felt utterly shit about myself.
The cycle was broken once the coil was removed, and it's not returned since but I stick with Fem fresh (I do not do the whole douching thing though) for external washing, it may be psychological after the horrors of the thrush/BV drama but it makes me feel clean in a way that plain water does not.

oooo, can I have a super vag badge too?! I've never used anything other than water, and I too have never had thrush.

"I would hope that those using femfresh are using it to deal with external hygiene"

How is it possible that I've got to nearly 50 and not needed a product to wash my flaps with?

Do you think all this time I've been a bit smelly/unhygienic, and somehow dh hasn't noticed?

I'd be surprised. He's very fussy about food being properly cooked - notices if it's slightly burned, or if I've recycled the cooking oil once too often.

Or is it that some people have really smelly genitals?

Did you try shoving a head of garlic up there though?

Thats made my foof itch that!

I just give it a swoosh with the shower afterwards.

It's a nice quiet place nowadays so I don't think it needs too much bothering.

I think that some of the reactions are based on mixed terminology for private parts.

My vulva (outside) gets washed with the suds from tummy but no shower gel put on it. My vagina quietly does its own self cleaning thing and gets some water squirted up there from time to time. The use of 'intimate hygiene' products internally and harsh shower gels externally can cause irritation and internal use can fuck up the balance of 'local flora and fauna' Grin and set up a cycle of recurring infections and thrush.

I think it is a feminist issue, vaginas are offensive and dirty and you must take steps to change yours Hmm never mind that they're self cleaning and its important not to damage the balance of your vagina. I temporarily did some damage to mine by thoroughly washing inside and out with antibacterial face wash every single time I had a shower (shudder)

OP, I'm a sexual health nurse. I've seen more vaginas than Hugh Hefner. Unless there's something wrong, like bacterial vaginosis, they don't smell. In fact if you have any tendency towards imbalances of vaginal flora one of the most common causes of bv is the use of these pH balanced fanny washes as they, like other soaps, wash all the good bacteria away.
Its a pure scam. They encourage you to wash and spray and douche and what not with this, that and the other, that makes you more likely to smell bad and then you feel you have to use more of their product. They laugh all the way to bank while you cool your heels with a sore, smelly lady garden.
Hearts No where I've worked has ever recommended Femfresh or the like, in fact we tend to discourage it. The only thing you should be washing with is water or, at push, something like aqueous cream.

MrsWedge, can you clarify for those of us who love a good lather up of a morning, provided we don't squirt anything up our vaginas, are we safe to get the old chamois round our vulvas?

definitely a feminist issue.

How utterly abysmal to undermine peoples body confidence in order to make money.

Aqueous cream is discouraged now by the eczema association, that's the last thing I'd let anywhere near my foof.
