Its not okay is it? sitting/ standing in the shopping part of the trolley?

I'm sure this has been done many times.

I'm thinking about it today though Grin

If your child is too big to want or can't fit in the seat part you don't then let them climb in the other part of the trolley?

Filthy dirty feet where I'll put my food.

Standing up (dangerous)

I'm not being unreasonable to suggest that its the seat, or walk right?

I saw this with several families yesterday...it got up my nose Wink

Oh and I know there are germs everywhere... this makes it worse

Littlebear, rats are not naturally resident where I am. Two kinda have been introduced by external sources, and one no longer survives here. There other isn't common.

Nothing to do with being a 'naice' area, purely to do with geographical location.

TheBigJessie · 02/10/2013 10:39

I see rats all the time! But then, I love pet rats, so I feel excited when I get to watch a wild one, so perhaps I'm simply more observant.

Supermarkets will definitely have a rat problems in some capacity. If you poke around the grounds (car park etc) , you can sometimes see the rat poison containers with Rentokill emblazoned on them, discreetly tucked in corners.

Town centre supermarkets are surrounded by dropped food which equals rats and pigeons.

Out-of-town supermarkets generally plant shrubberies, which provides a habitat for small wildlife, including rats, even if there's less rubbish scattered over the surroundings.

Either way, cute ickle ratties! That said, I'm not necessarily sure the rats would bother to climb up on to a shopping trolley to wee all over it. Well, unless there was food left in it.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/10/2013 10:39

I never let mine to that, because I wanted the space for shopping! And figured, if too big for the seat, big enough to walk. But I wouldn't be bothered about other children's mucky shoes, if they had parents more indulgent!

Smoorikins · 02/10/2013 10:44

MakeHay - you may be right that the deep bit of the trolley is safer than a seat with no straps. That is probably why no-one has commented - nothing to do with 'judging', more to do with common sense!

I'm not judgey about it, I don't judge parents that do it, I just personally don't like it, and never felt the need to with my children. I had two, born under two years apart. I do understand though that it gets tricker with three or more.

There is a real mumsnet 'thing' that if you don't like something then you are being judgey. I think it is entirely possible to have one without the other. I don't like olives. I don't judge those of you that do.

Smoorikins · 02/10/2013 10:46

No pigeons here either, and certainly no pigeon problem near supermarkets. We do have some doves though, but they are in rural areas, not urban.

TheBigJessie · 02/10/2013 10:49

Fair enough.

We have lots of pigeons and rats. Although I don't really see them as a problem. Grin If we didn't have them, council tax would have to go up to pay for cleaning the Greggs sausage rolls off the pavements!

I was actually sitting on the bus watching a rat foraging on the bus station wall, earlier this week.

bruffin · 02/10/2013 10:50

The deep bit is only safe if they sit down . But if your child cant be trusted to walk they cant be trusted to sit inthe basket either.
If you have proper reins you can clip them to the trolley which is what i did.

AnaisHendricks · 02/10/2013 10:52

I saw a dying rat poking out of the bushes at a tourist attraction Sad

DC thought it was part of the theming and tried to touch it!

MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 02/10/2013 11:12

But smoorikins you don't feel the need to start a thread about not liking olives, or call those that do "lazy eaters", or insult parents of children with special olive needs. Those things are rather judgey, IMO, and have all been done at least once on this thread.

Personally (not directed at you anymore smoorikins) I don't care what looks or judging I get, in this or anything else. I'll keep doing it. Live and let live and find something more important to worry about .

LittleBearPad · 02/10/2013 11:19

I'd love your locationSmoorikins. I hate pigeons, hate them.

Feminine · 02/10/2013 11:31

make I started this thread.

I haven't done/said any of the things you mentioned. Angry

I started this thread in quite a light-hearted way!

I can't control the things people think or say.

feeling a bit pissed off now tbh

OP posts:
Smoorikins · 02/10/2013 11:32

Fair comment MakeHay.

LittleBear - how are you with seagulls? We have loads of those... and they can be a bit of a pest.

2tiredtocare · 02/10/2013 11:37

WTF are special olive needs??

2tiredtocare · 02/10/2013 11:39

I don't put my kids in the trolley because where would my shopping go? Don't care if anyone else does it though

mynameismskane · 02/10/2013 12:16

More like you were trying to make out you were lighthearted about something you think YOU are right on!

Meh, I let me kids do it and will continue to - couldn't give a toss if you don't like it!

Feminine · 02/10/2013 12:25

Why are you so defensive my? trying to make out Confused

I am allowed not to be livid about something surely?

I'm not suggesting you stop!

Just gathering opinions really...

OP posts:
MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 02/10/2013 12:25

feminine where exactly did I say you specifically had? Please, point it out - or in fact even the implication that it was you that had done this. Don't take offence for the sake of it.

2tiredtocare (know the feeling) special olive needs were an attempt to draw parallels between a (non-existent) thread judging those who don't like olives with this one, where children with SN have certainly come up more than once. Afaik they don't actually exist but I perhaps made the point. Or maybe not.

I, also, am to tired to care about shopping trolleys and all the permutations of bad parenting that may surround them.

Feminine · 02/10/2013 12:34

make you did it by telling smorikins that she hadn't "gone and started a thread"

implying that I had thrown all kinds of abuse at people because I did and that I thought those harsh things!

If you can be bothered Wink take a look at my posts. I started a mildly pissed off thread.

Anyway, I can't be bothered to type any more...

OP posts:
MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 02/10/2013 12:36

Nope, implying nothing of the sort. You started the thread, indisputable. Posts about the other things I mentioned appeared on said thread, also indisputable. Only a link between them if you are deciding to see them and choosing to be offended. I presume you don't have Jedi mind control over posters, therefore how could I possibly have implied that you posted all those things?

Feminine · 02/10/2013 12:54

Well make in that particular post...

I feel you did imply it. Try reading it again (if you don't mind) and you might see why it upset me.

actually, you really only have to read my opening post to see I wasn't standing on a soap box , with a puce face -sweat accumulating at my temples! Grin

OP posts:
MakeHayIsAWhaleNow · 02/10/2013 13:03

I have read it a few times and don't see it. But my intention was not to offend you.

Feminine · 02/10/2013 13:04

Okay make :)

OP posts:
LittleBearPad · 02/10/2013 13:38

No I hate seagulls too.

and rats

Grin
ilovexmastime · 02/10/2013 13:56

I let my kids ride in the trolley (sitting down, only deep trolleys) because it is FUN, FUN, FUN! Especially when we race down the isle with me stood on the back :)

ilovexmastime · 02/10/2013 13:57

also, i want them to be prepared for uni... I don't want them to hurt themselves by not knowing how to race a shopping trolley ;)
