I'm sure this has been done many times.

I'm thinking about it today though Grin

If your child is too big to want or can't fit in the seat part you don't then let them climb in the other part of the trolley?

Filthy dirty feet where I'll put my food.

Standing up (dangerous)

I'm not being unreasonable to suggest that its the seat, or walk right?

I saw this with several families yesterday...it got up my nose Wink

Oh and I know there are germs everywhere... this makes it worse

Booby did you read my post? I explained that pages back we spoke about it. Have you read all of it?

We did speak about it, yes, and we agreed that children with SN should have more options.

I think what people are objecting to since then are the comments made about "normal" children and that an autistic child can be recognised instantly.

This is my Child

Milkhell · 01/10/2013 23:08

Germs?!

AnaisHendricks · 01/10/2013 23:22

My DS is a blonde version of the child in picture 19. He was diagnosed aged 2.8 on the very first visit to the paediatrician having ticked all but two of the thirty indicators, most of which he displayed during the appointment. Severe autism and doesn't show if he is quietly reading in the trolley.

He won all his races at sports day hands down, but outside of school and in the holidays there is nowhere safe for him to run so he can't pursue his talent. He is six, with the ability to run, very quickly and was denied it for six weeks recently. In a trolley or on a backpack with reins apart from when he was at day-respite once a fortnight where he could swim or trampoline in a secure environment.

Imagine how difficult and frustrating having your mobility restricted must be for anyone - child or adult. I can understand why people might be getting upset.

LittleBearPad · 01/10/2013 23:36

It's fine sitting in the trolley and I don't get the concern with hygiene. What food isn't covered?

My sister and I used to ride in the trolley and hang off the back. It was excellent.

LittleBearPad · 01/10/2013 23:37

Maybe I mean the front - yep the front of the trolley

AnaisHendricks · 01/10/2013 23:43

No food is uncovered

The worst part of the trolley is the handle. My hands always feel horribly grimy after pushing one.

MidniteScribbler · 02/10/2013 02:27

Geez, some people are determined to suck all the fun out of life.

MistressDeeCee · 02/10/2013 04:16

Why on earth are some people so bothered about children riding in supermarket trolleys? Its not a crime for mums to want to make their shopping trips easier...is it? My DCs loved being wheeled around in the trolley, it was fun to them. & made for a much quicker and easier shopping trip for me. Cant see what the big deal is at all.

Blu · 02/10/2013 04:30

Of course young children have to stand up in trollies.

It enables them to reach the grapes and eat several handfuls as a snack on the way round .

Now, letting your child eat grapes before you get to the checkout ..... What could be controversial about that?

Smoorikins · 02/10/2013 06:15

I buy uncovered food. Specifically fruit and veg. If I am only buying, say, a couple of courgettes or baking potatos for example, I really don't need a bag to put them in.

Except now I realise I do - to protect them from kids dog-shit and cat-piss qgerms off their shoes.

bunnymother · 02/10/2013 06:19

I really can't believe you care, OP.

merrymouse · 02/10/2013 06:34

I didn't let my children do this because you always get reprimanded for inappropriate trolley use in my local supermarket and I don't think it is safe (I am assuming it might tip over or something - never actually tested the theory out - oh no hang on I did, but that was me when I was a student - yes it did tip over...)

However, I think the general public are probably safer when they don't have to trip over an absconding 3 year old.

As for germs, if you think about all the sneezing/other bags/things the trolley comes into contact with while outside in the car park, it's hardly a sanitized environment anyway.

TobyLerone · 02/10/2013 07:17

I do the same, smoorikins, and I still don't care. Don't you wash your fruit and veg?

MoominsYonisAreScary · 02/10/2013 07:24

Never mind kids shoes, trolleys are kept outside. I bet theyve all had rat piss on them at some point Grin

TobyLerone · 02/10/2013 07:30

Yep. And bird shit. Not to mention what's on other peoples' bags :o

MoominsYonisAreScary · 02/10/2013 07:31

MissD reins are good if like me you had a 2.3 year old who wanted to walk and a baby in a pushchair. He does walk nicely but toddlers can be unpredictable and I dont want to have to let go of the pushchair on the hills around here if he does decide to bolt.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 02/10/2013 07:34

Yep, kid shoes arnt looking so bad now Grin where do you all live anyway with your toddlers feet all covered in shit?

Seems hardly anyone picks up after their dogs around here, yet my 2 year old has managed to avoid standing in any so far. With lots of ds mind the dog poo from me

mynameismskane · 02/10/2013 07:37

Oh dear. Listen lovey, wait until your children are too big to sit in the trolley seat.

I bet my bottom dollar you will put them in the standing part.

Now off you go back to your high perch.

Smoorikins · 02/10/2013 07:50

'standing part'? Wow, that's great, I've never seen a standing part. Just a seated part and the bit for groceries.

Thats the perfect solution.

The trolleys at my local supermarket are kept covered. Rats? I've seen two in my life locally, and one of them was a pet. Not many round these parts.

Oh, and I'm sure if you cant see germs where the dog shat and your child later stood, that means they aren't there.

Yes, I do wash fruit and veg. I don't wash the bag of flour that I sit on the work surface when I'm using it, or the pack of cheese or the carton of milk.

TobyLerone · 02/10/2013 07:52

And I'm sure they were just perfectly hygienic until someone's child stood in the trolley.

MoominsYonisAreScary · 02/10/2013 07:58

Just because you dont see rats doesnt mean there arnt any. Just wash the food it will be fine

SleepyFish · 02/10/2013 07:59

So am I to presume from this thread that spinning one's DC around in a trolley is a big no no?

HaroldLloyd · 02/10/2013 07:59

I let DS go in the trolley and I put fruit & veg in trolleys that I know kids go in.

You have no idea what's been in a trolley. There are worse things than toddlers around.

HaroldLloyd · 02/10/2013 08:01

Someone could have done a big fat poo and not washed their hands and pawed all over your trolley. Rats could have been in them.

Trolleys are not sanitary!

Fruit & veg gets a swill.

What's the beef!
